BT Sport's coverage is exceptional. I'm talking in terms of the actual football now - the time and programming devoted to the matches - not about superfluous nonsense like punditry and studio presentation. In terms of the action, it blows Sky out of the water.
It's a pleasure to be able to watch one-hour highlights of each and every game, not that time allows me to do that. The choice is what's great. Yes, I can watch Sevilla-Gladbach or Galatasaray-Atletico if I wish or have the time. That's a real service.
With Sky, the coverage was reduced to the live games and the two highlights shows each week. That was adequate - but no more. True, they did show 12-minute cuts of games occasionally, but the "event" was over on the match night with Sky, whereas with BT you feel that it's only starting when the live match ends. The nine hours of overnight coverage is testament to that.
Add the hour-long highlights of domestic leagues - also scheduled without the infernal "L" on overnight broadcasts - and BT Sport is an all-encompassing Euro football paradise.
In terms of CL highlights shows, I'm tending to favour the official UEFA package that is broadcast at 8AM the following morning over the Lineker-fronted affair on match nights. That's because the official version relies less on voice-overs - and is less Anglo-centric.
The Goals Show on ESPN is wonderful, fronted by men who genuinely love what they are watching and doing. Their enthusiasm matches their knowledge and they put surly Steven Gerrard in the ha'penny place as far as I'm concerned.
Now, if only BT would get rid of that abhorrent "L" on Europe.
Archie.
