I don't understand this? If you are watching through PS3 how would they know what type of TV you are watching it on? Unless you mean you can only watch through HDMI now?

I noticed the aspect ratio was all wrong after I'd been using the app for ages with no problems. The only way I could get a decent picture was to use the zoom feature on my TV. When I contacted them I got the following reply:

Dear Robert,

Thank you for your reply to my email asking for further information
regarding the streaming issues you have experienced on the PS3 LOVEFiLM
application. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience that this
may have caused.

From the information you have provided, I can see that your TV is a
standard definition CRT device, this means that the new LOVEFiLM
Application version 2.0 which is designed to work in HD may encounter
problems when running. Therefore, it is likely that the issue you have
reported is to do with this and would be something we at LOVEFiLM cannot
truly resolve. You can however attempt some to resolve this issue
yourself by modifying the video output settings on the PS3 device.

What is the funny aspect ratio they are sending you. I was going to sign up to Lovefilm as my Blockbuster has closed but if the films are being messed up I won't bother.

lovefilm seem to be digging themselves into a very large hole lately with them stopping game rental and basically it seems making lovefilm app only work on hd tvs. Lovefilm will not last very long.

For starters I still don't understand this thread. But seriously who watches streams on a CRT? For starters it would look bloody awful because you would most likely have to use a Composite cable to connect up the TV. Also why do you think they have stopped game rental when they haven't?

Yes they have they are no longer allowing new customers to sign up for a game rental pack. Also exsisting customwers won't be able to rent games from 8th August. Go onto their site and try and sign up for a pack that includes games. Even exsisting customers can't change to a pack that includes games. http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1845695

I don't know why you don't understand? I've been watching Lovefilm streams on an SD CRT perfectly fine for ages. The quality has been good as it is on Netflix.

However recently the picture has been squashed with large black bars at top and bottom. The only way to watch is to 'frig' the settings on my TV by using the zoom setting. This obviously decreases the quality.

Lovefilm have confirmed they no longer support SD TV's which I thought would be of interest.

I can't be the only PS3 user using a CRT TV?

Plenty of people must do. Not everyone can afford a posh television with modern technology.

I've seen plenty of smaller flat panel TVs being sold for 20 quid in BHF electrical shops.

if you had something like this .. hdmi from ps3 to http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-HDMI...item4ab65529d2 then this to the crt.. would this solve certain problems with screen ratio as it would be converting the HD stream from the PS3 for a CRT.

or not?

That looks like it would work. Why are people having a downer on CRT? For SD it is great and as for streaming at the lower bitrates etc I would say CRT would smooth the blocks out and have less gradients. Anyone watch ITV SD on a HD TV

CRT's look with good with RGB Scart but as far as I know you can only watch a PS3 through Composite which has terrible picture quality. ITV SD looks crap on any TV.
