What would you sell on this task

If you were to buy wholesale to then sell on a marketstall or shop what would you choose?

Personally I would choose toys, you could easily create a buzz to get people in, you can have a mix of low price practical joke kits to quite pricey board games.

What would you choose?

I've done plenty of market stalls for my business and I sell high price toys. I do OK when I sell low priced toys, but by FAR the stalls that kill mine are the ones that go to the cheapy toy retailer and buy novelty toys for 20p and sell for 3 quid.

So I'd sell cheap impulse purchase toys.

Susan Ma was onto something when she went for the cheap jewellery option. That's what I'd do.

A really decent option!

Loads of merit in that.

T shirts with names and jokes on and if it is cold, sweatshirts with scooby doo on.

I would have gone down health and beauty. Perhaps cheapo soap sets with a funky fragrance or packaged in an eye catching manner. Maybe even some hand lotion sets.

I think it depends on where you are. In a place like London you have to look at who will be passing by. I myself have been to several markets in London as a tourist and I think it's the unique jewellery and toiletories that I would buy. I did like the items Miles team had, but I probably wouldn't buy it.

We think alike. I reckon these things would sell well.

But being small items, one would have to sell a lot to show a decent margin/mark up.

If I had a choice it would probably be sex toys. Someone I know actually runs a fairly successful adult website specialising in sex toys and they showed me a catalog that they received from a whole saler once (and it was almost the thickness of a phone book), and the prices they pay for the stuff wholesale versus what they can be sold for retail is quite a good margin especially if you go for the generics and copy cats. The price doesn't even have to be astronomical either as the main reason the "private shops" charge so much is down to the fact they have to pay for licences as they sell R18 videos and magazines (it's also the reason that one of the main high street stores doesn't sell R18 videos, as they don't actually have a license).

It's not something I'd seriously consider setting up a business around though, due to the fact that you can get it online and even then a lot of the more established outlets have a loyal customer base, even if some also have "white label shops". These are basically affiliate shops that you can set up online in 5 minutes and while you may get a few orders, you'll never compete with the established ones.
