Glad you enjoyed it Mrmatty. Am not sure how it can get any higher though if the death of a long serving character can't get the viewers in. Such a shame because as we've both said it was a great episode and a fitting end for poor Tom.

I expect EE to be down tonight. For some reason an Andy Murray lead-in won't help it. I saw the last couple of mins of EE last night...my God it is woeful. It was like panto acting!

Supermarket Secrets (done to death) and the Your Money Crime thing are both pathetically weak programming by the BBC. It's almost akin to sticking Homes under the Hammer in primetime. Same audience

Wouldn't surprise me if Will.i.am quit The Voice too, his actions of walking off when Leah didn't win reminded me of Pete Waterman walking off in a huff when Michelle McManus won Pop Idol.
Waterman didn't return, and I can see Will.i.am doing likewise, spending a lot of time in the recording studio with Leah whilst he has a lot of his own products to promote too. |

Sherlock repeats to contain hidden words giving clues to the next series' episode title (or if you're cynical, making sure fans watch it again).

Think the rating of yesterday has to be Paul O Grady - never fails to deliver that show. I don't think it shows any sign of slipping, no matter the weather. Happy Families didn't seem to work out for ITV.
Seems relatively warm today - reckon most shows will be slightly down, but shares will probably be up. |

It would cause panic at itv Towers. don't forget the last outing of Downton only came 6th (or 7th?) most watched show that day and wasn't top drama either. Also, it would give the young and youthful TXF demographic an event tv alternative to lingering on itv at 9pm, or they can lobby their parents to watch Sherlock with them and record Downtown on that newfangled Sky + digibox recorder thingumajig.
As a general rule, when X Factor finishes, the section of its audience that broadcasters want either goes over to ITV2 or switches off the TV and goes online or to a games console. Hence why that audience is so valuable. ITV have given up chasing that and now focus on keeping the older but upmarket ABC1 portion to watch Downton Abbey. Sherlock would dent that audience more than the young ones. And it would be an utterly pointless exercise. Quote:
Fantastic news about Jessie J not returning. It means the new replacement judge will help the show get some press coverage just like whenever there's extra press coverage when new judges have joined other talent shows. And also this new judge is inevitably going to be more liked than Jessie J so it's a win-win situation for the show.
And given the "brand image" of The Voice in the UK at the moment, their best hope might be to pick up the phone to Tulisa and make sure her trial dates don't clash with the live shows. |

There is absolutely no way The Voice would make the same mistake Itv/XFactor did by recruiting Tulisa. No chance of that happening. Possibilities for a young-ish British female popstar include: Joss Stone, Cheryl Cole, one of the Saturdays, Kimberly Walsh, amongst many others. I'd rather Michelle McManus be a coach on the Voice than Tulisa, who should be right on the bottom of the list.
![]() Joss Stone became terminally unpopular in the UK and it killed her career. Cheryl won't do it (nor should she). "One of The Saturdays" are hardly an inspiring appoinment. Kimberly Walsh, like Cheryl, can't really do it because she can't sing live to an acceptable standard. As I said, there's a reason X Factor didn't go for someone young. Ellie Goulding is one of the few (relatively) attractive young British popstars out there at the moment. But she's not exactly that exciting and I don't think she'd even be interested. Someone like Paloma Faith might be interesting and distinctive enough to avoid being seen as a poor imitation of Cheryl Cole - but her voice could drive anyone mad and again, would she do it? Michelle McManus might be available though. Punt Tom Jones and get Will Young (if he's still interested). |

It's not like it's the middle of the autumn season anyway, it's July. And it's not as if ITV aren't doing equally flimsy light factual either. |

Won't be sorry to see Jessie go. If you're dumping judges I'd get rid of Danny next because of his endlessly tedious song choices, at least Tom and Will remember it's Saturday night telly for the whole family and make choices with that in mind. Quote:

I dont think she was awful. She was quite good but it's fantastic for the show in terms of press coverage that a new coach will be joining. Ramps up the interest for the show ahead of series 3 and injects a bit of freshness to the series too. For some reason, a lot of people didn't like Jessie because she's quite outspoken so I think any kind of replacement is likely to be received better than her, which can't do the series any harm.
TBH I can see all of them quitting. |

This is ITV we're talking about. They have forced so much out of their various golden gooses in recent years, I'm surprised the RSPCA hasn't intervened!
![]() Likewise the BBC, with their endless Pointless repeats and Celebrity Pointless being repeated primetime on a Saturday night. Quote:
Oh dear,I've been reading back to some of these rating threads, it seems to me you have a one heck of a BBC compulsive order, do you wake up and go to bed with BBC on your mind?

that's an awful figure, 1.8m! Yip - almost as bad as the AWFUL Waterloo Road at 2.78m being beaten by a farmy soap and a dog show - beaten - positively hammered. ![]() Quote:

Are you kidding? She is worse than useless - and hasn't been in the charts for years. Get a grip - her last outing on primetime STV was so awful it was axed after 3 weeks. The only thing "oor Meeeshelllll" is good for is to buy you a pint in Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street on a Saturday night... |

Australian drama is making a comeback to BBC One daytime. After the success of Neighbours and not so much successful Out of The Blue, BBC are taking a punt with new Aussie crime drama Doctor Blake Mysteries: http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/news/b...058037.article
