Not in the summer, it seems.
How will the BBC pay for these rights. I hope that football wont be at the cost of entertainment on the BBC. That's not worth the rights really.

Even outside Summer they struggle.
Rev, The Mimic, Grandma's House, The Thick Of It. None of them got 3m unlike Father Ted, Drop The Dead Donkey, Red Dwarf, Bottom, The Office, Phoenix Nights, I'm Alan Partridge and several others.
Very poor performers now.
Diana a hit for Channel 4.....at last nothing seems to rate well on this channel any longer. Run also gaining a reasonable audience.

Doesn't matter if they did, given more than one match a round is televised. If you don't want to see Man U, watch the other match. And if you go through all the Man U FA Cup matches over the past ten seasons I don't think you'll find many that don't deserve TV coverage, if not as first choice than certainly among the five picked for TV coverage.
Since 2002, only four Liverpool FA Cup matches have not been shown live. And two of those, at home to Havant and Barnsley, turned out to be pretty big games.

No they didn't, they showed live games from those rounds every season. They didn't include every single goal on Match of the Day but that's because they also had the Premier League and couldn't fit them all in the slot. Same as when ITV had the Football League and the show got cut to half an hour to make way for F1 and they had to lose the League One and Two goals.
In addition, the few matches that weren't included (which were mostly 0-0s) were shown on a loop on the red button for 48 hours. For me, that is hardly worse than showing them on ITV4 or opposite Match of the Day once and never again. Two seasons ago ITV's first round highlights weren't even on Saturday night.

That has not been confirmed, and if BT has "up to 25 games", as they have said, it can't be the case because that's the same number ESPN had in the last deal. It looks highly likely the BBC will have two per round.

Of course last time the BBC had the FA Cup rights they didn't have The Football League Show. I would of thought all the highlights and goals from the first and second rounds would be shown as part of that programme. The programme is "an institution amongst supporters of our 72 clubs" according to the Football League themselves, so it would be a natural fit.
The Football League Show contract is until the end of 2014/15, but you would hope it will be extended.

Can't imagine the League would be happy to have the FA's games covered on their programme, or vice versa.

I think the keys for X Factor doing well this year are the scheduling, and the momentum/hype it creates.

It's an embarrassment to BBC Sport's proud heritage, but then of course it's nothing to do with BBC Sport really, it's made by external producers who clearly know nothing about football or that league club fans just want to see a few decent highlights of their team now and then, not studio "insight" or patronising features. At least the text messages were dropped...

If it's at the expense of using monies otherwise spent on developing the next Dont Scare the Hare or Secret Service I'm glad!
IMHO, this deal is bigger than just the BBC winning back the FA Cup. It means that for a fair number of days during the season, the Beeb have less slots to occupy with new or filler material and put the pressure on ITV and other channels in having to do exactly this...

Isn't that double the overnight audience? Still, it's a great figure for the channel.
Emmerdale had 5.56m (34%) including +1, but not tape-checked. DS's tape-checked rating may push it above EastEnders.

So EE won then but it looks like the hot weather effected both soaps a lot.
Some more details about The FA Cup deal. The evening kick off for the final will stay. That's no real surprised as it has boosted ratings for it. Also The BBC seemed to have got the rights due to the Olympics coverage. The FA also wanted that full TV/radio/online coverage to boost the competition's profile.

I see no logic in the BBC having League highlights but no matches or League Cup competition. Rubbish deal.
