I can see in a few months time it being like this;

Emmerdale 7m
Corrie 5m
Eastenders 2.5m
Hollyoaks -0.2m.”

If only we got some analysis from you occasionally instead of just sarcasm.

On a serious note about the soap ratings, once again no tapechecking was performed by Attentional. Assuming Corrie finished early like it normally does on a Wednesday, that would have an effect.

Why would you be following a well known BBC personality on Twitter? Seems very unlike you to be interested in what they have to say.

That would explain the lower than usual share for Coronation Street and higher than usual share for Emmerdale.

Does anyone know what Superscrimpers (C4, 8pm) and Slaughtered at the Murder Hotel (C5, 9pm) got last night?

Many thanks!

With all those OAPs dying from heat exhaustion I can see Corrie being the No.4 soap by this time next year.

Well sometimes EE is tape checked and other times it isn't and nobody here ever makes the distinction.

Slaughtered at the Murder Hotel: 987k (4.7%)

Was my post really that out of place compared to most soap discussion?

Nothing has changed with the soaps, all doing virtually the same they have done most of the year. Obviously, for whatever reason (probably the fact it's the oldest skewing soap), Emmerdale is holding up the best during this heatwave.

Yet, you and others seem to happily point out a couple of times Emmerdale has marginally edged ahead against Eastenders on first viewings but there is no comment when Eastenders is back ahead by 500,000 or when Corrie is also down a fair bit compared to figures before the heatwave.

I actually defended EastEnders the other day and pointed out why it would be dented more than Emmerdale by the weather.

Fluctuations at this time of year are to be expected. All eyes remain fixed on EE because its rather troubled time began back when the Great British summer was a distant memory.

Can people stop calling it a heatwave FFS - it's just summer. I know we haven't had one for years but there really is no need to panic!

Does he usually tweet about the ratings though?

England crash out of the womens' Euro 2013 tournament, inquest now on BBC Three.
Manager Hope Powell stuck by her chums rather than give the new talented blood a chance, heads will roll.

I think the bar needs to be set low for four for now, you have to start from somewhere after all and as I said a returning 1.5 million would do wonders for them right now. 2 million and over I just cannot see for a show that is, like others say, a copy of The Voice but with food and Nigella Lawson. But, let's wait and see.

Yes. Last minute filler given they intended to launch Love/Hate in that slot but then panicked at the sight of The Apprentice final. Perhaps C5 were expecting that to be scheduled on a Sunday night like usual.

As it turned out, perhaps they should have just gone ahead with Love/Hate? Only had to face You're Hired and no scripted competition on any of the main channels. Ratings for BBC2 and C4 meanwhile were strong and seemingly unaffected by BBC1, although ITV rated quite low.

The soap viewers (apart from Emmerdale of course) are panicking so i'm panicking too.

I'm not sure what point you are making here.

Normally everything on terrestrial channels is tape-checked by Attentional, whose figures are used for the DS soaps ratings and general ratings reports. The fact that certain channels haven't been tape-checked for a couple of days is notable for its rarity (outside of Christmas).

ITV Media and Screenwatch (the latter, oddly, run by Attentional) do not use tape-checked ratings, so (for example) they had Tuesday's EE at 5.66m, using the scheduled 19:30-20:00 period. In fact it ran 19:28-19:57, and so it was tape-checked by Attentional to 19:30-19:55 to produce a rating of 5.80m, as shown in the DS report.

Sometimes, of course, Tuesday's EE runs 19:29-19:58 and so, while it is still tape-checked, no tape-checking adjustment is necessary.

BT Sport schedules are out for the first two days:

Not exactly a veritable feast of live sport to begin with but that's to be expected. Rome wasn't built in a day.

In the great British summer of sport, football will get a short mention
Incidentally, hopefully someone will sign up pundit Michael Gray, who has been excellent throughout.

Just as good as the male team. What have the ratings been like?

I noticed the irony of Channel 4 getting The Taste as well.

I think even Channel 5 does better than Noel Edmonds Pension Plan TV now. Actually Channel 5 seems to have a bit more life in it than the Countdown Memorial Society and Come Dine Wth Me Fan Club has. AKA the Soap With Models Who Can't Act Channel or Laugh At Mancs Too Long Club.

What I was saying was that people have no problem comparing a tape checked Corrie with a full slot average EE. When 30 seconds can effect whether EE is tapechecked or not and likewise I have often seen posters compare full slot EE ratings with tape checked ones with no distinction being made.

The only rating I've seen was for the first England match last Friday:

BBC Three
19:00-21:30 - England v Spain: 725k (4.2%)

Sources: ITV Media, DS

I haven't seen a rating for England v Russia on BBC Two from 16:30 to 19:00 on Monday, nor for any of the seven live non-England games on BBC Three, nor for the BBC Three highlights last night. No doubt we'll get the England-crashing-out rating tomorrow.

I see. Clearly we ought to compare like with like, and ideally use tape-checked ratings when available.
