Woo-hoo! It's a shame the peak will be limited, and surely won't beat last year's, but Murray played superbly throughout and made the world number 1 look ordinary

Fantastic!

3 hours ago Murray was evens for BBC Sports Personality of the Year, he's now 1/5 on Betfair.
Now 1.08 - that's between 1-12 and 1-13.

It's not an absolute certainty but it's very, very, very hard to see how anyone else could possibly win it.

1966: Kenneth Wolstenholme "They think it's all over, it is now".
2013: (whilst Andrew Castle was waffling on about getting an ace in on championship point...) Boris Becker called it right...
"Any point will do".

SPOTY between Fergie and Murray.

Will the 2 week affair with tennis pull in record numbers? The Sun won out for me but I did watch on the Sports App in fresh air no doubt like millions of others

SamuelW... the glory is yours but please don't pretend this is a BBC victory. Its a quirk. Same as ITV claiming Chelsea CL victory was a scheduling win.

One final thing. Let's hope crown jewels stay. Although the coverage would have been better it'd have been tragic to see this hidden on Sky Sports

I'm not sure him winning in straight sets will have that much effect on the ratings tbh, they were long and quite close sets, and that incredibly tense last game should have got it a humongous peak, in share at least.

I hope now a Brit* has won Wimbledon (at least I think, that is what has happened, judging by the pots in this thread), we wont care so much about a Brit winning it next year.

*im sure I heard something about him being Scottish, would this win no longer be a British win, when Scotland goes independent?

Well done Murray, ultimately a nice ending. Ratings potential won't have been fully reached but it should be massive anyway I guess.

Hot weather or not, surely the peak will be higher seeing as he WON?

What does Zeebox tell you?

Early Wimbledon 2014 scheduling info (!!!!!!!!):

1st week - Murray to play Mon, Wed, Fri.

Mon - he is first on court.

And no, the BBC won't (and nor would it try to) change that.

I don't look at zeebox anymore these days. But I predict 12.5m average and 15.8m peak.

None of which worked - ratings are as so-so as last year.

I wonder if they'll see sense and move the 1pm news so his first game isn't split between BBC1 and BBC2. There is no reason why the 1pm news can't be moved for the fortnight so BBC1 coverage can begin in time for the 1pm start of play on Centre/Court 1.

BBC1 would be wise to repeat the documentary ASAP at 9pm one night - though strangely enough they haven't got a New Tricks repeat this week they could drop.

And talking of repeats, BBC3 are to show the directors cut of the Olympic Opening Ceremony on the first anniversary of the games. Not sure how that'll do - when BBC1 repeated it a couple of weeks after the games it didn't really find as big an audience as you might expect.

Judging by how quiet it was round my way when I took the dogs out (no cars, hardly anyone out walking or doing the lawns etc, no barbecues) I am expecting huge ratings for the tennis (it was as quiet this afternoon as it was when William & Kate married)

Good idea - I can certainly see them doing that on the Monday.

My neighbour was in Glasgow town centre and said it was eerily quiet

They'll be able to produce some more concrete scheduling for next year maybe, with this being confirmed.

I know demos matter to an extent but do they really matter that much for a show like YFSF which gets 3-4m? Like I saw on Rzts demos last week that The Cube apparently had more "young" people watching than Countryfile. But I bet you if Itv had a choice between showing The Cube or Countryfile, they would surely choose Countryfile? What's wrong with showing a program with old people watching anyway, Coro St and Strictly are very popular and most their audiences are not young.
Every show is sold on demos, not total viewers. Demos don't matter "to an extent", ultimately they're all that matter for commercial broadcasters. But 16-34 isn't the only one, it's just the most valuable per 1000 viewers. Countryfile would sell spots based on its ABC1 viewership (like ITV dramas do or as Strictly would).

Your Face is a reasonably entertaining show, but I am still bemused as to why they paid for a show that is basically Celebrity Stars in their Eyes with a couple of tweaks. Instead of doing some tweaks to their own show.

They could not be accused of a rip off as Stars in their Eyes is decades old. And could have done it differently enough - eg getting the audience to vote who each one should be, dropping the bottom celeb each week etc.

It is like the BBC not tweaking Come Dancing ten years back to create Strictly and instead buying another similar dancing format.

Just seems needlessly unambitious and lazy.
I'd argue that it's actually good commissioning practice. They saw Your Face Sounds Familiar, knew it was doing well and probably had it pitched to them months ago. If they wanted make that show then it's right of them to commission the production company to make that show.

If they wanted a CSITE revival then they would have commissioned that from ITV Studios, but they obviously wanted YFSF. It would have looked alarmingly suspicious had they brought back CSITE with the "randomiser" element, a recurring celebrity cast, judges and a leaderboard!

What was the highest peak the Olympics opening ceremony got, late into the evening when "nobody" was watching anything else?

ITV have been tweeting about watching Murray both before and after the match by the way, so bear that in mind Samuel, they won't care what ratings they get today.

Newcastle was heaving according to my daughter. They had it on a big screen at Monument but very few watching. Most in street cafes and bars making own entertainment

Most people either in garden or at the coast around here

If they do that I think my dad would go absoluty ballistic and lose the plot so I pray to god that doesn't happen.

Why on earth did they schedule Today at Wimbledon in a post-11.30pm slot when there was always a chance of Murray being in the final - and regardless of that they had an 8pm slot for the ladies, so why not the mens. Top Gear could have waited a couple of weeks.
