I think yesterday will be the peak rating of 2013. I don't see anything else this year to beat it, unless there is sadly a funeral (as horrible as it sounds). 2012 was an incredible year for ratings, especially peaks with the Olympics, Euro 2012, etc...

No way will X Factor later this year even touch that 17.30m peak. So I reckon it will be the #1 of 2013 for Wimbledon.

I'm not dismissing anything. It is you, in your constant "Devil's advocate" comments that is tossing aside the importance of yesterdays events and the significance it has on British sport in general. The BGT winners will likely disappear into obscurity yet Andy Murray will continue to participate in Tennis and could possibly encourage British youngsters to take part in the sport.

When there is a football match live on Sky, you are in effect, watching 22 multi-millionaires run around a football pitch. But where is the "Britishness" of a Premiere League match?

Lewis Hamilton is also a multi-millionaire. No one criticises him either. I am intelligent enough to determine whether someone is truly Devil's Advocate or using the phrase "Devil's Advocate" to disguise their real point of view.

It'd be slightly concerning if the likes of Nelson Mandela or Prince Philip's funerals didn't get averages of 15m+. How would a funeral get an extraordinarily higher peak than average though? Do people tune in for just the hymnns?

Prince Phillips funeral would quite likely be on working day in daytime so no more than 7-8 million
Nelson Mandela could reach 15m if it was in the evening or a weekend but on a working day would be a fair bit lower..
Thatcher only got 3-4 Million.

Big Brother weekend ratings are a little unusual for the Saturday and Sunday.

Friday- 1.43m including +1. Clash with Murray's semi win.
Saturday- 1.28m including +1. High rating for a Saturday.
Sunday- 1.33m including +1. Quite low, but was to be expected on such a hot day clashing with 20 mins of Top Gear.

It's the first time in a long time that Saturday and Sunday have rated similar.

I don't think the funeral of Nelson Mandela would rate that well bearing in mind Thatchers didn't do that well. Prince Phillip doesn't want a state funeral so it will be interesting to see if he gets one and whether its even broadcast.

The only one I could see getting an astronomical figure is that of the Queen which I expect will get an Olympics style rating of around 25m. But that probably won't be happening any time soon.

That BGT 1 minute peak(assuming it is right) must have represented a lot of rapid group remote control action being over 4 million more than the 5 minute peak.

Great score for the Tennis given the amount of people presumably watching in other ways and I would imagine a lot of people out and about enjoying local shows and festivals in the glorious weather. Given a wet day and a closed roof the average would have been considerably more imo. Fantastic peak though befitting a true piece of history being made and I hope the All England Club look at that and the ratings for the fortnight and realise the merits of FTA tv in helping to create a wave of national interest.

For the BBC, well its got its standout sporting rating making sure 2013 isn't the damp squib follow up to the golden summer of 2012. A bit lucky with Murray though, because he is the only true jewel in mens British Tennis since Fred Perry who inhabited a world of black and white. They should hope that Laura Robson will keep improving and makes herself a proper contender- its been 36 years since Virginia Wades victory.

Great day overall for BBC1 with the F1 doing very well even if its starting to suffer from Vettel fatigue. All day share must be huge for BBC1 and the BBC family.

They've cited the peak figures for the TV, so presumably the web stat is the peak figure too, so would be interesting to see the average. Even as a peak figure though, that's already 25.8 million viewers, without probably 10m+ who watched on big screens and in pubs. It's looking more and more likely, therefore, that those not watching were in a minority - which really doesn't happen very often. Fantastic news. I love it when the country comes together.

I think the web stat will be total requests to the website stream, that's usually what they cite when giving internet viewing figures. It would be fascinating to get an estimate of how many were watching in pubs, on big screens etc, the total reach must have been enormous.

Eurovision 2014 Final moved to May 10th. Earliest since 1998. Voice series 3 should finish May 3rd at the latest to avoid the break and BGT tail end. (Meaning it would start 15/2/14)
