Technical commentary might be needed more on Sky and Europsort because that has more hardcore tennis fans and Wimbledon has a huge amount of casual fans that don't understand or want to know about it. Likewise, there isn't much doing down of opponents, there's obvious bias towards Murray but nearly always respectful of opponents.”

The BBC should be catering for all audiences in their coverage, not going for the lowest common denominator. I remember in previous years much more commentary between sets showing where winners were placed on the courts, percentage of going to backhand/forehand, where players stood to receive serve etc - not just the slow mo montages that we got this year, which don't show anything as they seem to be designed to demonstrate how wonderful the HD cameras are over showing you anything about the match.
I'm not asking for them to force an analysis of every service action down the viewers throats, just a recognition that whilst some viewers will just want the atmosphere, others will want a little more detail and they should make an effort to accomodate all of this. Wimbledon is one of the four biggest events in the tennis calendar, and one of the few remaining major sporting events the BBC cover, and they should make an effort to treat it as such.

Down is Down and its always good to be proved right..
