Likewise, there isn't much doing down of opponents, there's obvious bias towards Murray but nearly always respectful of opponents.”

The BBC should be catering for all audiences in their coverage, not going for the lowest common denominator. I remember in previous years much more commentary between sets showing where winners were placed on the courts, percentage of going to backhand/forehand, where players stood to receive serve etc - not just the slow mo montages that we got this year, which don't show anything as they seem to be designed to demonstrate how wonderful the HD cameras are over showing you anything about the match.

I'm not asking for them to force an analysis of every service action down the viewers throats, just a recognition that whilst some viewers will just want the atmosphere, others will want a little more detail and they should make an effort to accomodate all of this. Wimbledon is one of the four biggest events in the tennis calendar, and one of the few remaining major sporting events the BBC cover, and they should make an effort to treat it as such.

Thats a huge shame

The specials aren't great but its still nice to sit down after dinner and watch The Royals...

Citizen Khan and Not Going Out are terrible

Anyone know how Drama rated last night? There's no channel share listed on the Ch4 sale website.

Both posts sum up why the Beeb have got it right. Given that 95% of the Wimbledon audience on Sunday never watch Tennis outside of Wimbledon.

Doesn't bode well again for Christmas after last year's stodgy and dull schedule on both main networks. Mind you, TRF last year was very crude in places and wasn't all that funny. Perhaps it's come to the end of its shelf life. Maybe, though, MBBs on Christmas Day should be given a run out as the show is capable of 10 million viewers and loved by the fans.

(2.7 v 2.9, 10.5 mill v 11.8 mill)

Down is Down and its always good to be proved right..

CBS are doing a terrible job at this adaption..

If people don't like it they have the right to voice an opinion and add to that the TV viewing figures...it sums up completely. You cant FORCE people to watch. On top of that blame the scriptwriters and those in the BBC watering things down or making them silly.

For some reason, I cant see Miranda back for a series. Maybe a couple of specials and thats it.

Any noticeable difference for the Five News ratings yesterday?
They've now put Emma Crosby behind a desk (booo!) and the 6.30 slot is now "Newstalk Live". Thanks in advance.

I think they need to wrap The Royle Family with a final special, its seems to have gone downhill with the last few specials.

So what do ITV have for the Chrstmas period

Ant and Dec's Takeaway
Downton Abbey
Coronation Street
Emmerdale
Birds of a Feather?
Vicious
BGT special?
Paul O' Grady for the love of Dogs?

Both of those are of course unlikely to be on on Christmas Day

Could it be Vicious v Citizen Khan at 10pm on Xmas Eve

If so, there is no competition as of which to watch

I don't have the channel share but the 8:20pm episode of Birds of a Feather scored a respectable 200k (inc. +1) on launch night.

Still no +1 for BB?

Channel 4 Sales records that the 200k for Birds included just 16k ABC1 adults - a skew of 8%. Can that possibly be right?

As a comparison, Dave's 10pm episode of QI XL skewed 46% to ABC1 Adults. I would expect a difference, but not that big!

Will still offend Muslim viewers like myself for an inaccurate interpretation of a Muslim family. There will no doubt be many complaints. An Eid special would feel more original anyway. It probably won't spark a huge rise in viewers like Christmas specials do but will at the very least deliver a solid audience for BBC1 on the night.

Not sure how that would work considering it's probably going to be a two-parter again. They could run it as one 60-minute (or 80-minute) show on Xmas Day, and as mentioned, is well capable of 10m.

I think that will happen. A part of me thinks ITV have it in the bag”

Me thinks the BBC don't want to take risks and try something original.

Last year's Downton special didn't rate that well did it?

Taking the soaps out of context, SNT should rate well. Birds of a Feather & Vicious should deliver solid audiences at best, as with POG. As far as a BGT special is concerned, it has the potential to become the most watched show of the Xmas period if scheduled correctly (after SNT would do it wonders).

Regarding The Wright Way's axe, it was savaged by critics but that couldn't have been the main reason for it. It didn't deliver ratings wise either it seems. I never watched it but going by the reactions everywhere, no point in me doing so.

On that occasion C4 added a further 0.9% on +1, whilst C5+1 did not exist. On this more recent occasion (w/c 24th June 2013) C4's advantage with +1s included was somewhat smaller. (4.8% to 4.5%)”

For both to tie at 4.1% should send alarm bells ringing at Channel 4. Pretty poor.

Sacking Jay Hunt wouldn't be a bad thing, and in fact is kind of necessary. They certainly don't have money issues, having built up cash reserves of more than £200m over the past however many years. As would be expected, they have a limit for these reserves. and if they drop below that limit point, the business would be in danger.

The main issue, as someone has mentioned earlier on, is that for all the money they spend, there seems to be no solid return. One-offs and other non-returnable stuff are a regular feature of Channel 4's schedule which is a major problem. To use an analogy; it's a bit like a woman spending thousands of pounds on shoes, but only wearing each pair once (the analogy is not meant to be offensive, but sorry if you are offended).

Yet more bizarre scheduling from Channel 4.

Big Brother might have done slightly better than 1.4m including +1, as MediaGuardian do not use tape-checked ratings and it finished at 22:57.

To answer my own question, Miranda did face Corrie from the off:

Spoiler
Quote:
“New BBC2 comedy Miranda, written by and starring Miranda Hart as a joke shop owner, began with a promising 2.5 million viewers, a 10% share, between 8.30pm and 9pm.

Miranda had only marginally fewer viewers than BBC1's Panorama, which had 2.8 million, an 11% share at the same time on BBC1.

The slot was won by the second Coronation Street episode of the night, with 9.1 million viewers, 39% of the audience. The earlier instalment, at 7.30pm, had 9.3 million.”

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009...collision-life

And Count Arthur Strong's audience of 971k (4.6%) compares with a 12-month slot average of 2.17m (8.9%).according to Broadcast. So less than half the share of Miranda's premiere (2.47m/10.0% as per DS), and barely half the channel's benchmark share. Not a promising start.

If that was the schedule I imagine the people responsible would be getting rather large Christmas presents from Janice Hadlow.

BBC1 is showing Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark next Saturday. Very good scheduling because if I remember correctly, it nearly always wins its slot even against new Itv opposition and guarantees a solid 4million. Your face sounds familiar will struggle against it.

But, has it before been shown on a day where it was exceedingly hot (which it looks to be this weekend)?
