Corrie did well last night, The Zoo returned to a good audience - again another cheap factual programme topping The White Queen. The Apprentice did well also, i think the final could rate at around 7.5million, considering the ITV oppsotion in basically an extension of The Zoo. I would think Ray Mears programme will rate at around 2.5million.

Nice rise for The Apprentice last night, the final should be nicely up on last year. The Zoo did surprisingly well for ITV.

I'm trying to justify a payment I'm forced to make (you know the one) by watching TV.

Not forced you say? Seriously, they wouldn't leave me alone, and without a TV, for a good 12 months. Just easier to pay it since it was all making me unwell.

Dan talks a lot more sense than you and several others here, you and everyone knows EE is capable of decent ratings, now just because it is in a lull (not the first time) the sniping continues - the constant 'bullying' here needs to stop, I have seen the sniping from you so often. This is the first birth in the 24 hour rolling news culture that we've got now. The way it's announced - with an official leaving the hospital, a messenger taking a notice to Buckingham Palace before the world finds out whether it's a boy or a girl, the gun salute, then the statement outside the hospital from Prince William - to me, it all screams 'BBC One TV event'.

I think they'd be mad to underplay it and just have a formal notice between programmes. It seems like it came very late in 82, when it probably would of been difficult to have a news bulletin anyway. But those were different times, and I think people would expect BBC1 to break in to programmes. We'll see...

Well, they certainly won't do it like they did in 1982 but I still don't think they'd interrupt programmes, I think it can wait until the next junction. Anyway, we'll soon see.

I kind of disagree - to me it's a news report rather than rolling news event when it comes to the main channels. I'm sure the Skycopter and co. will track the messenger but I think unless the BBC is a fair way of a junction they'll just issue a news report at the end of the programme, though perhaps if it's just filler switch to News 24 coverage for half an hour or so.. At most perhaps they'd put a brief text newsflash over the airing programme pointing to the news channel and saying a report will follow, but I've not seen them do that kind of thing for years.

And you can put away the "bullying" card thanks, seriously... rivalry between fans of networks/soaps on DS is so standard, perhaps inappropriate for the Ratings Thread (though not entirely) but it's just friendly most of the time.

Sometimes people get a bit heated and passionate about things, I'm one of those people sometimes and I've had my mental moments, but I don't really care too much. I am aware this is an internet forum and not my real life...

As for EastEnders, this "lull" is a way of life, IN MY OPINION, and it's still making me cringe when I watch it now. The new Peter Beale is a joke, the amount of silly recasts is atrocious, Tanya's exit was poor for an established character, Zainab's exist was odd... previously amazing characters like Janine, Kat and Phil are shadows of their past selves, I could go on.

I used to be a huge fan of EastEnders in the circa Who Shot Phil days when the likes of Pauline Fowler, Pat Butcher, Janine, Barry, Roy, Jamie Mitchell, Sonia, Mel, Steve Owen, Lisa, Dan etc were in it; the cast was amazing then and the stories were so well told. They're just a few names I've remembered off the top of my head and there are bound to be more. I loved it through the Slater years with Zoe/Kat, the whole Little Mo/Trevor thing and the like.

It went badly downhill in 2004(?) ish under Louise Berridge and I hated characters like Dennis, Roxy, the weird Moon brothers, Johnny Allen etc - it was terrible then. Then it got worse, and worse, then it got a bit better for the 25th anniversary with a great live episode. But it never recovered from the extra work put in to that. Ever. IMO. The Christmas reveal of Max/Stacey's affair was also another example of the show being on fine form.

Other than that it's been paper fairground disasters, bad recasts, terrible stories like Heather being killed after giving birth to Darren Miller's baby (the Miller family, another flop... the Ferreiras too...) Phil Mitchell getting addicted to crack, Tanya burying Max alive in the woods, all far fetched rubbish.

The ruining of Kat/Alfie, the atrocious baby swap and bad treatment of great actors and actresses like Samantha Womack, people quitting left right and centre, the established cast disappearing, family units breaking down, new characters being awful, poor writing, poor pacing, poor characterisation.

So I think I have enough reasons behind me to not be happy with the show and no amount of hype is going to change my opinion; if and only if it's worthy of credit again will I praise it.

And frankly it's going to take a miracle at this point with the fabric of what made the show so great in the past so dismembered.

And I haven't even mentioned a rival soap, so put that in your pipe and smoke it - bully!

It'll be interesting how Love/Hate does, I think if it breaks 1m then it'll be deemed successful, I wouldn't be surprised if the new original drama from 5 is a coproduction with RTE or TV3

With regards the royal baby discussion, the Australian news networks have sent numerous presenters over, including the anchor of channel seven's breakfast show. If it doesn't happen in primetime I expect television programmes to be interrupted, can't see why the UK would be any different. Especially considering celebrity culture is now more prominent

I personally don't think a programme will be interrupted as such, a short news report during commercials or when programme has ended most likely. I guess any time now and we will know for sure.
