One must wonder if the arguing here is the cause for the unusually large amount of lurkers, especially for the number of posts, and the fact this is the Ratings Thread

I actually enjoy this programme, but it seems as if it's never off the screen - boy do they know how to flog it! If it's not first runs, it's repeated on C4, or More4, or 4Seven...
I commend the organisation for stepping out in a multi digital era and bringing us E4, 4 Music, Film4, More4, and 4Seven to satisfy various audiences, but you get the impression they have taken their eye of fthe ball re the main channel (C4)and you now ask yourself - was 4Seven really needed? what is More4 all about? Maybe the money spent on them could have been better directed to their main channel.

I think E4 does a reasonable job and its American sitcoms have a decent following, but More 4, supposed to be the upmarket channel, is just full of property shows and CDWM. CDWM was good, but the sheer overkill has seen ratings fall from a peak of 3.5 million in 2009 to 500,000 now.
Maybe they need to be just (ironically) 4 channels! Namely the flagship Channel 4, Film4, 4Music & E4 - 4 distinct channels that are clearly identifiable with. Scrap More4 & 4Seven - they seem to be 2 channels that are a dumping ground for repeats of the same ilk. Or at the very least only have 1 of those "repeats/another chance to see" channels...
Bet BBC1 will be bad tonight there is only one Soap that is not a repeat a very poor line up.

I think the nail has been hit on the head. They have TOO many channels. Scrap 4music, 4seven and focus on the rest.

I would think the Doc Martin rpt will beat Sherlock more than 2:1. I don't think they've repeated Sherlock on the main channel before, i wonder if it will rate similar to CTM did when it was repeated.

More4 airs alot of american drama's that pull in decent numbers for the channel, that wouldn't find a big audience on the main channel. The Big C, Good Wife, Boss, Nashville etc (Nashville being a prime example imo)
They should just stick with 4, E4, More4 and scrap 4music and 4Seven (still never had the need to watch that channel)

That's what they do on the weekends.
Like most of you, I've probably seen every Simpsons episode from season one to ten at least a dozen times. They repeated season eight a few months ago, which felt fresh given I didn't watch certain episodes for almost a year -- two years even. Wouldn't mind if they repeated a really, really good episode to death (like the Cyprus Creek one).

Remember when FilmFour was good and worth subscribing to? Now they're practically giving it away!
Lost all enthusiasm for Channel 4 after they axed 4Later. That was a brilliant strand and some of the foreign content was excellent, even better than what BBC Four has to offer today in some regard.
I think the danger (and I include myself in this) is we think a channel should be scrapped if we don't watch it - however I rarely/never watch BBC3 but I can understand the audience it is aimed at, likewise Really, or Food Network, or ITV2...
Film4 is an interesting one - I believe their ratings are good - commanding between 300 & 700k (or more) for a film at times.

As I stated the other day, Channel 4 has cash reserves of £200m+. It's not like they're short of money. They do have to keep some of the reserves though to make sure that the business remains at a safe operating level.

They really should scrap 4Music and sell off Box Television (4Music, Kerrang, Smash Hits, The Box, Heat, Magic etc...). It hardly adds any value to the business. When C4 took a controlling stake in Box Television, I knew it wouldn't end well. The result is that they have so much on their plate, they have taken their eye off the ball in terms of the main channel C4.
More4 shouldn't be scrapped, as it brings in the ABC1 adults demo. ABC1 has been doing better than 16-34 for the Channel 4 Portfolio recently, and quite a lot of the primetime programming for C4 is marketed at ABC1.

4Music is pointless and should be sold off to the people in charge of that oldie music channel on sky
Confirmed: The ninth and final season of CSI: NY will premiere on Channel 5 in week commencing July 27. Not confirmed yet if it'll be on Saturday nights or Tuesdays.

Worth saying that is 800k requests through the day:

Still it is a big number. No idea if that includes the app, that's how I do most of my TMS listening. Funny though that although Sky have shelled out the money on the rights, more people follow it through the BBC!

I think they all need to be rebranded as I'm sure some people, who aren't TV geeks such as ourselves, have no idea the channels are all part of one family, with their entirely unique logos. So although the E4 brand is strong with young people, that might not automatically also mean the Channel 4 brand is strong.
E4 does do the main channel some harm - obviously Hollyoaks would be doing better ratings wise on C4, The Big Bang Theory would have been on C4 in the pre E4 days. Constant CDWM repeats on More4 have probably tired that programme out faster than it should have done.
I would strongly consider moving The Big Bang Theory to Friday's at 9 on C4, and ending the first show Hollyoaks on E4.

I have suggested that before but I was told it was stupid. I do agree with you though, and as C4 have pretty much hit rock bottom, they may as well start taking more risks.

Well it will give a much needed leg up for the rest of the Friday night schedule. E4 would still have Big Bang Theory repeats rating well every day. I would say C4 need it much more than E4.
