Still it is a big number. No idea if that includes the app, that's how I do most of my TMS listening. Funny though that although Sky have shelled out the money on the rights, more people follow it through the BBC!”

Have you seen the reach figures, or the numbers for watching in pubs and clubs?

Just come back from golf and there was at least 30 watching in the club house.

'Fraid not. It was on in the pub I was in at lunchtime but no one was actively watching it. When you add up all TMS listening figures and website hits I would imagine it would outnumber Sky figures.

Hilarious TMS today - Henry Blofeld calling himself 'blow job', not having any idea what it means at all, was a classic moment!

CDWM used to be a show about food lovers and dining. Now its Big Brother full of bitching and a freak show with attention seekers. Shows how bad it has become with the winning score being 17 in a four contestant show.”

The ratings speak volumes. Both shows have lost about 80 pc of their audience in the last five years. All of my family watched both of them until about a year ago where the overkill and freak show element made them give up.
Now might Channel 4 be regretting ditching BB? Yes it was down to 2 million by the end, but the streamlined version with a shorter run and fewer fanzine shows on Channel 5 shows 1.5 million will watch.

I missed that!! Love TMS and I suppose my Ashes so far has been 50/50 Sky and TMS.

Any idea why 5 Live only mention TMS being on 5 Sports Extra and never Radio 4 LW, where I get it from when out and about?

Do many have DAB radios in their cars?

TMS (Test Match Special) is interrupted on Radio 4 Long Wave for the Shipping Forecast, on 5Live Sports Extra, no such issues.

Very few people have digital radio in cars still. I think they want people to convert over to 5 Live Sports Extra as much as possible, as eventually this will become the only place for TMS. Radio 4 LW will be turned off at some point. It's also part of the strategy to promote DAB digital radio I guess.

Anyway, apologies, very off topic!

It was too expensive and had no repeat potential and had become an overkilled bore by the end where only the Daily Star was interested, but the celeb one at least should have stayed as it was getting 2.6 million. I think what Channel 4 should have done was renegotiate the deal with Endemol and have two CBBs a year with the civvy one going online.

DAB is standard-fit in about 39% of new cars but it takes a while to filter through to cars on the road. Most cars on the road should have it within a few years.

I can still recall the Ashes test match in 2005 when three wickets fell between 5.55-6pm when LW was at the shipping forecast.

Given events in Paris I wonder whether the new series of Law & Order will be taken off air this weekend as it features a train crash ?

I was dying with laughter. I don't think I have laughed so loud all year!

Brilliant.

You honestly don't know what you are missing out on. It's something that will never be replicated on TV.

The Magic of radio. Anyway back to tv.

It has been repeated on BBC1 before, they showed the first series on Wednesday nights in the summer of 2011. And while it won't get enormous ratings, it certainly won't be like Call The Midwife because the benefit of Sherlock is that you get a complete story in one programme, so it's like repeating Lewis or George Gently.

Doc Martin seems to be the only serial drama that ever repeats well.

Oh the irony.....I missed your comment on Corrie's lowest ever rating last Friday. It didn't fall that low against the Jubilee concert which got 15m.

The debate is rarely fun and healthy, see your comment to dan yesterday. Although, the thread is still a good read when you put certain posters on ignore.

Good 9pm figure for BBC1. EE & ED had decent shares. BB performing well and has proved its worth this summer especially with Channel 4 flopping daily.

I would rather see a Sherlock repeat than something cheap or say New Tricks again!

As I have said before, repeating dramas and Comedies can really lift the new series of the show. Miranda and MBB are examples. May I say Death in paradise was also another drama they repeated and it didn't do well but the new series did brilliantly.

For something like Sherlock I think is acceptable to repeat it because it isn't on very often and is a good recap. Strategic repeating is a perfectly reasonable thing to do in my opinion. Lazy repeating is not.

In the late seventies, when VCRs were still very rare, the BBC found it could get good ratings by repeating series like The Two Ronnies and The Good Life as people remembered how funny these were and were shown not long before a new series.

The Winner Is flopped in the US last night with a very poor 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and just 3.9m viewers overall. It has almost halved its audience compared to the first two episodes when it aired after The Voice. The Jane Lynch fronted Hollywood Game Night did a bit better at 10pm with a 1.3 rating and 4.1m viewers but that's still not great.

That rounds out the NBC summer schedule and the best ratings for new shows have been Bear Grylls adventure elimination show which had 4.2m (1.5) and summer drama Camp which had 5.0m (1.5) on Wednesday at 10pm.

To put it all in context, NBC's 3rd most watched show this week, and 6th in the demo, has been a repeat of America's Got Talent (6.2m, 1.3 rating). They're not the only ones though, the US version of Great British Bake Off has flopped on CBS. And ABC's much touted murder mystery show Whodunnit has also been performing badly.

I wonder if i-Player no matter how good it is (and it is), dents these recent repeats massively.

Take Call The Midwife, incredibly successful I think on first-view, and 7 day watching, but when they repeated it soon after on the Beeb, it bombed.

I was quite annoyed because I started watching those repeats, I hadn't seen it before, and they pulled 'em. Still haven't seen the whole series, doubt I'll bother now.

These big shows used to repeat massively for the Beeb.

I think Sherlock will repeat better than people think share-wise, a great show that can be watched more than once.
A reminder that hidden in each repeat will be a word that will eventually give an episode title for series 3.

Weather warning for those traditional hotspots...Yorkshire and the Humber with temperatures touching 30 or 31 degrees over the weekend.

I can't take that post too seriously as you're as partisan as you're accusing me of being, so it's obvious you'd write all that on your first stop after the EastEnders episode thread tonight. Please feel free to add me to your ignore list.

Dan and I have had an on-off relationship on the board for years, I don't think I've overstepped the mark but that hasn't stopped a few wounded EE fans jumping on me to feel better about its failing ratings. He's a big boy, and doesn't need people being offended on his behalf.

Don't think anyone was that surprised Corrie logged so low directly against Wimbledon in the blistering heat; that EastEnders was behind Emmerdale without a clash and no competition - that is a surprise.

Actually, it's not...

Due to recent events C5's intended 8pm programme 'World's Busiest Train Station' was replaced with a repeat of Ice Road Truckers.
