you are naive. Ben said what he said because he has been bollocked by the BBC and has to justify his failure. It's all about spin. He isn't going to say "Oh yeah, The White Queen is crap as viewers don't like it" so he's saying it's crap in a positive spin. It will be axed.

Ben Stephenson is a very poor controller of drama, probably the worst they have had, given the many comments from established and respected writers who have had to deal with him.His own track record of making programmes is minimal, they really should get someone in who has some experience of drama production.

Great rating.

I'm hearing 1.32m (15.9%) peak for Sky as well.

To be fair to ITV they've been really unlucky with the weather, who could have possibly predicted an actual hot British summer?

How many times do we have to do over this?!

Mike's figures are SD+HD so that gives us 4.6m and excludes +1.

The figure GeorgeS has posted is the rating including +1 which is 4.9m.

A decent start for L&O:UK I think. Roughly where I expected it to be. The White Queen is having a nightmare now.

This weather is looking to stay like this to beginning of August they are saying that will also mean more low ratings for the next few weeks

Would it have rated better in the autumn/winter? My take is maybe but its pure fluff with no substance, the white queen thread on here is more entertaining than the actual production.

3.6 million is utterly shamefull.

Who are these people watching Countryfile?!

It's as dreary as a wet weekend in Blackpool

I think TWQ would probably have done a bit better in Autumn/Winter, but it was never going to be the next Call the Midwife or Downton for the BBC. The reviews were at best "mixed" and from what I can tell its not really creating much buzz as it goes on either. IMO both leads are terribly miscast, it becomes so much better everytime Edward and Elizabeth are off the screen. Its to lightweight too take seriously as a drama and not outrageous enough to be awesome like "Bonekickers" or "The Deep".

I'm going to be really interested in how it rates for Starz.

Perfect Sunday middleclass nostalgia/escapism/general interest stuff. Its the weekend version of The One Show.

I've never seen AR that low before.

The BBC have Countryfile and Mrs Brown that will rate above 4million in any type of weather.

And yet The Tudors improved so much when they realised people were interested in the actual politics and stories of the court and not just Henry bed hopping with 30 seconds of "game of thrones" type plotting and manoeuvring in between. But I remember the producers were a bit incredulous about that at first.

Two bits of C4 news:
* They've ordered The Complainers from Dragonfly, a six-part series looking at the UK’s burgeoning complaints culture and its impact on industry.
* One Born Every Minute is moving from Leeds General Infirmary to Bristol's Southmead Hospital for its next series. More significantly the episode order has increased nearly 50% from 14 episodes to 20 episodes.

I've never heard of any bad comments? How long has he been controller? Didn't he commission CTM?
How is luther doing in the official figures- I actually find it really good having caught up on it quite late. Also, are there any new dramas starting before the 'big autumn' - when does quirke from the bbc start? Might be interesting- I have read the books and I've always thought after the success of CTM, the bbc should do more dramas set in the 1950/60s. But what do I know?
