Under the Dome

Ratings for Under the Dome this week were stable, 2.7 with 10.8 million viewers.

I've just finished watching it and it was a large improvement over the last 2 episodes...
Still a huge mess when compared to the novel.

Mistresses was down to 1.1 and Siberia was down to 0.8

I think it will definitely slide over the next 3 episodes which is a shame..

I've said it before, but it should have been 1 a week”

I think it should have been on once a week too. It doesn't feel like the sort of drama that would be usually stripped nightly (it's not like a crime drama with loads of suspense and cliffhangers from episode to episode) Last night's episode was very dark and tonight's episode is set to be very grim too. I can't imagine viewers wanting to watch this kind of programme over four nights.

Does anyone have NewsTalk Live ratings? I am just wondering if it has increased at all on the previous 5 News at 6.30? Thank you

Under the Dome is quite simply obliterating the 10pm competition. CBS will be thrilled to see it hold steady at 2.7, compared to just 1.1 for ABC's Mistresses and 0.8 for NBC's Siberia.

Still think this show could have enough going for it to intrigue a decent sized UK audience too.

Great rating there for Long Lost Family which is having a really strong run in the ratings since the move to Monday. Good nights for 4 and 5 as well but very poor for Skins on E4.

The nature of Channel 4 means it can't take risks every day. But I think they still do their bit. Getting The Murder Trial onto TV must have been an incredible effort but they did it, it counted for a bit of PSB and they got decent ratings for it. The Plane Crash really paid off last year (ratings wise, financially who knows!) and was years and years in the working with multiple broadcasters trying to do it over the years. They're airing a French subtitled drama in the prime drama slot of the week!

Even Million Pound Drop - sure they've over exposed it. But it really did push the genre forward and did some interesting things. That's now a format developed with Channel 4 which has become a massive global hit.

I would even say that some of the date related programming recently has been what C4 should be doing. Both First Dates and Dates may have been crippled by dodgy scheduling more than anything.

The problem isn't a lack of risks, it's a lack of cash cows in primetime. Basically, they're having to do far too much commissioning. BBC1/ITV1 have massive resources and yet only really have one hour of primetime to worry about from Monday-Friday. Channel 5 have built up a good portfolio of US imports (22-24 hours rather than 6 hours for a UK series) and now Big Brother.

C4 used to have the US shows. They used to have 120+ hours of Big Brother. And they used to have Ramsay (and a few others on their talent roster) doing multiple shows all rating well.

I read this thread, what I would like is stop full stop, to those posts you quote.

Food shows- one hour on Monday only, and interesting.

The Voice- New Coaches may increase ratings.

Nowadays though for many shows the opening sequence can be little more than a break bumper. The BBC didn't include any titles or a bumper when they switched from build up to the final itself, but they did rerun the entire opening sequence which also aired at the beginning of the show outlining winners from various nations.

No surprise to see Skins hurt by Run - and probably more so by Big Brother. In another slot I'm sure Run could have got 2m for it's debut - though I think many people will watch the Olivia Colman episode and not the rest.

Skins also hurt by Cassie not necessarily being the most interesting character to hold a special - like with Effy they could have done with one or two of the old cast in supporting roles.

Tom Jones will just turn up next year and not realise all the other judges have changed. Or keep name dropping the old judges.

Did your parents buy young George an Amstrad micro instead of a Commodore 64?

Agreed on all these points...
To say Channel 4 are afraid of taking risks is ridiculous....

But what was The Plane Crash? never heard of it

Demos for Nick and Margaret are quite surprising. What was this show about?

62pct of the audience who watched the Queens Coronation Festival was aged over 65, this must be the oldest ever audience to watch a tv show on bbc1.

BBC-One-viewing taxpayers swap their lives with ITV-watching benefit claimants.

People saying it will stay around the same, but I doubt it. It will be back to around 1.50m incl +1.

The Apprentice has a very young audience, despite the ages of the "panel" and I'd imagine they just carried some of that audience to this show.

BBC 1 viewers pay tax and get it back in their publicly funded salaries as pen pushers in schools, hospitals, council offices, etc
