EE- Phils cover up in heathers murder
If shirley said anything now, would anyone take her seriously? Genuine question. Im wondering if phil would start to worry she could spill because he hasnt been bothered before now and shes been drunk before now too

Interesting that Shirley's bitterness and bile is now turned towards Ian for not helping Ben before the crime, rather than Phil who orchestrated the cover up afterwards.
Phil was more to blame than Ian ever was - but Shirley must bear the most blame as she could have gone to the police, but she never will admit that.. |

Well Shirl would get into trouble for hiding the photo frame from the police before handing it in

If Phil has been reported, he would definitely go to prison but only if there is evidence etc...

Actually having said that, it may not matter. Shirley lied to the police to cover for Phil. But the police may not believe her anymore because Shirley could be saying that as she broke up with Phil. If Shirley can prove Phil covered up Heather's death, she would be arrested as well

Probably not, she should have told there and then. I see how now she's blaming Ian, has she forgotten she lied to save Phil and was going to lie to save Ben. I really think its time Shirley left there's no point of her anymore.

I love Shirley but it has to be said... She was a complete idiot for not running straight to the police station. If she said anything now she would be in trouble too for covering up a murder. Poor Hev.

- haven't seen tuesday and thursdays yet but she is blaming Ian for not being there for Ben? Really? She was much more of an influence to Ben than ian in the couple oof years prior to Heather's death, maybe she should start blaming herself.
To answer the opening question, now a year after the event, there is little that could be achieved by her speaking up. People may well believe her, I'm sure Denise and patrick would, as would most of the Police that have had previous dealings with Phil but not been able to convict him for anything but again, it would be impossible to prove. The community that believed her would rightly be disgusted that she didn't speak up at the right time and let Jay in particular be punished more than he should have been and the Police might find it easier to prosecute her for obstructing the course of justice. Or, they might just think that she is a bitter, vindictive ex trying to cause trouble, which of course she is. |

Unless she has concrete evidence then no I don't think so the ship has sailed, she would also be putting herself in the frame for lying and covering up.

I think she never blamed him before now because she only just clocked on (guessed really) + she was drunk so she would say allsorts

I'll watch the omnibus at the weekend but at least it explains why she has been dripping poison into Jean's ear about Ian for weeks now. I am a firm believer that people say what they really feel when drunk so I imagine she is telling the truth but it just goes to show how deluded she is. Instead of reporting Phil to the Police after the reveal, she let's Jay take the fall for the cover up and even physically assaults him herself. Instead of blaming phil and and her own parenting for Ben going off the rails, she blames Ian who Phil kept as far away from Ben as possible. Ian went to pieces when he discovered what Ben had done, that in my opinion was the main cause of his breakdown last year, Ben's confession and Phil's pressure on him to keep quiet about it - but Shirley blames him.

She didn't telll the police what he did. She didn't tell everyone else in the Square. She let everyone believe that Ben and Jay came up with the cover up by themselves and allowed Jay to take the flak from that. She may have claimed to hate phil but in every way that mattered, the police, the Communitys view of him, she let him off the hook by her simple decision to syay quiet.

Shirley physically attacked Jay and demanded that patrick and denise evict him - thankfully they had the sense to tell her to get lost. Whsn has she physically attacked Phil? She wouldn't dare - much easier to attack a teenaged boy that had previously viewed her as a mother. Equally, now, much easier ti attack a man just months out of a breakdown, and use an emotionally unstable woman to do so than actually take Phil on properly.
She wants to hurt phil, she should contact some of the Arches clients or similar but no, she hasn't the balls for that. She'll just get at teenaged boys, people just coming out from nervous breakdowns, teenaged mums terrified of losing their babies and according to excerpts, 6 year old boys to continue her 'vendetta' against phil. |

Why exactly didn't Shirley go straight to the police? I vaguely recall the episode after she found out, but I can't for the life of me remember any reason why she wouldn't turn him in too, especially when she has been filled with venom towards him ever since.
