He was perfectly entitled to kiss Sharon as they were dating and he and Shirley were finished, why would she hate him for paying the rent, if she didn't want his charity then she should have sorted her own rent out!

How do you know that that's what Shirley would think? if it hasn't been written in the script then it isn't so, you can't just write your own scripts based on what you THINK the character is thinking or meaning, you have to take the scripts at face value, if she didn't like the idea of seeing Phil moving on with his life and kissing other women then she should have stayed at carlys, then she wouldn't have seen the kiss, she wouldn't have got throw n out if the b and b and phil wouldn't have paid her rent!

she wouldnt blackmail him if she believed he was doing it cos he was being nice to her! she said herself he was a "nasty piece of work" after he did it
its not about what she wanted. in phils view he should have been keeping her sweet all along, not making her more bitter.
