BBC iPlayer to feature improved recommendations

By Thomas Newton on Thursday, 4th July 2013

The BBC is working on bringing recommendations to the iPlayer.

Similar to the recommendations offered to you on services like Netflix, when you’re done watching a programme like EastEnders or The Voice, you’ll be served up links to upcoming or related programmes.

Dan Taylor, acting head of iPlayer has announced that the BBC will be spending 18 months developing new recommendations software in order to improve the iPlayer experience and feed our insatiable appetite for more online TV.

I still think they should of just had one iplayer, that you then pick the channel on for all the internet channels on Feeview, Freesat. Instead of having to wait for each channel player to launch...........

Not sure of the demand for recommendations though

you mean a freeview player? who would run it though and would the individual channels want their content on such a thing?

BUT the OFT and CC thought differently .. and Killed the Kangeroo!!!

How will be find things we want to watch in the future - the "answer " is a concept called "discovery" and recommendations are part of that -
If there is a recommendation service which works better than others - you will tend to use it first ..
and thus that providers/Agragators programmmes will be watched by more people!
