Ava desperately wants to make amends with Dexter, following on from his discovery of Ava's secret relationship with Sam. In order to do this, Ava cautiously enters Dexter's bedroom so she can discuss the situation through with her son, but is shocked as it seems Dexter escaped the house during the night. Ava searches the entirety of Albert Square for him, including The Arches and the Branning's house, where she is met by a cold response from Cora, who decides to dish out a few home truths to Ava, regarding Sam. Ava reluctantly takes these on board, before leaving, continuing her search for Dexter. In the Allotments, Dexter is sat with Jay, confiding in him about feelings towards the rekindled relationship between his parents, and how he feels betrayed by his mum, as she is allowing the one person who has let them both down walk back into their lives. Whilst he understands, Jay is also angered as he makes Dexter realise that he's lucky to have two parents on the scene, whereas Jay has none. Dexter apologises, and promises Jay that he will make peace with Ava. The friends share an awkward hug, which Dexter appears to enjoy more than Jay. In her flat, Ava is sharing her concerns over Dexter with Sam, who assures her that he will not hurt either Ava or Dexter again. Ava accepts this, and the couple share a kiss, only for Dexter to walk in. Ava stands firm with her decision that she's going to continue to see Sam, despite the thoughts of Cora and Dexter. Dexter says that he's fine with this, but issues an ultimatum to Ava - either Sam goes, or he does? Ava is stunned... Carl is left unhappy when he receives an early morning visit from the Police in connection with the recent break-in at Scarlett's, and storms off to confront Ian after a fake alibi from Kim. Ian assures Carl that he was not responsible for contacting the Police, but Carl pins Ian up against the wall, telling him that someone must've given his name to the Police for them to suspect him. Ian squirms, confessing that he did pass Carl's name onto the Police, only because he was the last booking on the day of the damage. Carl smirks, teasing Ian about the break in, giving Ian the hint that it was him, when in fact it was the trio of Shirley, Bianca and Jean. Carl exits, leaving Ian scared of him more than ever. Michael decides he needs to infiltrate Janine's live with Scarlett, and persuades Alice into asking Janine for her Job as Nanny back. Luckily for Alice, a desperate Janine seeks a Nanny, after the former one quit after growing tired of Janine's demands, and quickly snaps Alice up. Michael is left delighted, but Janine is aware that its all part of his game. Also, Peter's suspicions over Whitney causing the damage in Scarlett's prove futile, as Tyler reveals they were deciding on a Wedding theme for their upcoming nuptials during the estimated break in time. Meanwhile, Kat forces Kirsty to R&R in order to cheer her up, after Max asks for her wedding ring back. And, Denise and Patrick are frustrated when Kim makes an error at the B&B, leading to a guest over-flow. Duff Duff: Ava Hartman |

'EastEnders' cast Ava Hartman's adoptive Mother
Love thy Neighbour star Nina Baden-Semper has joined the cast of EastEnders, taking on the role of Ava Hartman's (Clare Perkins) adoptive mother Joan Hartman. The 68-year-old actress will appear on the Walford based soap for the first time later this month, when Ava seeks comfort in Joan as her battle between Dexter and Sam (Cornell S John) continues. However, tension between the pair will emerge after Joan pays Dexter (Khali Best) a visit on Albert Square, and soon learns from the teenager that Ava has reconnected with her birth mother, Cora Cross (Ann Mitchell). "Being the brash type of woman that Joan is, she instantly clashes with Cora upon discovering that she has reconnected with Ava. But also Joan is visibly hurt, because ever since Ava was small, Joan has acted as her mother, and now she's beginning to reconnect with her biological mum, Joan feels betrayed" reveals executive producer, EEFanatic. "It's certainly going to be handbags at dawn for the two bickering biddies, which hopefully will be a lot of fun for viewers". During an interview posted on the official EastEnders website, Baden-Semper teased that the characters of Cora and Joan are similar in some ways, but polar opposites in others. The main one highlighted is that Joan will approve of Sam, whereas Cora is a little more cautious. Also teased in the interview, Cora and Joan will reportedly clash on numerous occasion when Dexter decides to come out to his Family, which was revealed yesterday. Nina Baden-Semper's most notable work is portraying the role of Barbie Reynolds in the controversial 1970's ITV sitcom Love thy Neighbour. Rudolph Walker, who plays Patrick Trueman in EastEnders, starred as Bill Reynolds, the husband of Baden-Semper's character, in the sitcom. Nina Baden-Semper's last on-screen acting role was in 2004, in an episode of Children's show Bernard's Watch. |

Following on from Dexter's ultimatum yesterday, Ava is alone in her flat, mulling over the potential consequences of losing either Dexter or Sam from her life, when there's a knock at the door - its Sam. Ava invites him in, and soon he begins to plead with Ava not to put an end to their relationship. Ava is uneasy, and admits to Sam that Dexter is more important to her, and if she's left with a choice between Dexter and a man, whoever it may be, Dexter will always come first. Sam is disheartened at the relationships end, and reveals to Ava that if he cannot be with her, there's nothing for him on Albert Square, before heading back to the B&B. Ava breaks down in her flat, as the man she truly loves could potentially walk out of her life again. Over in The Arches, Dexter is spinning a lie to Jay, as he believes Dexter made peace with Ava yesterday after receiving a reality check from him. However, that is not the case as its revealed when Sam interrupts the pair, pleading Dexter to drop the ultimatum as he truly loves Ava, and cannot bear to see her torn. Jay is left furious with his supposed friend over the lies, and huffs out of The Arches on an early lunch break, leaving Dexter with Sam. Dexter stands firm by his ultimatum, telling Sam that he'd be glad to see the back of him. Sam is visibly hurt, and heads back to the B&B to pack. Later, after Jay doesn't return from his lunch break, Dexter goes in search for him, eventually finding him and Abi enjoying an Ice Cream on the community green. Jay proclaims that he doesn't want to speak to him, and storms off, leaving Abi bemused, searching for answers from Dexter. After hearing the truth from Dexter, Abi presents him with a little advice, after witnessing the break down of her own family, also reminding him of Jay's parents. Dexter takes this fully on board, and realises he needs to stop being selfish, and returns home. Ava is pleased to see Dexter home, and reveals that she has ended things with Sam, but is stunned when Dexter gives his blessing to the relationship, admitting that he's been selfish. Ava thanks Dexter with hug, before remembering that Sam was planning on leaving Albert Square. Ava dashes to the B&B, where Denise reveals that Sam checked out earlier in the afternoon. Ava thanks Denise, but her sadness is evident. Ava heads into The Queen Vic, where she is intent on spending the night drowning her sorrows. But as she walks through the Square garden, Ava is delighted to see Sam walking through the market, heading towards Walford East train station. Ava calls out to him numerous time, and eventually Sam hears, and the two run into a romantic embrace... Bianca is on the edge when Kat reveals she is worried about Jean, as she fears Jean is heading for another mental breakdown after becoming stressed out recently. Bianca tries to put it down to the stress of working for Ian Beale, but Kat can sense there is more to it, and pries for more answers. Worn down by the constant questioning of Kat, Bianca eventually confesses the truth behind the fire in Scarlett's. Kat is disgusted with Bianca and Shirley for piling pressure on Jean, and is adamant the pair confess to Ian explaining that Jean was an innocent bystander. However Jean refuses to allow Bianca and Shirley to go through with the confession, as Bianca was as innocent as Jean was, and she can't bear to see Shirley in trouble. The trio agree to keep the truth from being revealed, much to Kat's despair. Its havoc at the B&B as Denise attempts to control the fallout after the guest overflow at the B&B caused by Kim, who tries to blame the error on an admin fault on the computer. Denise knows that it was Kim's laziness which caused the problem, and suggests to Kim that she take a business course which is running at the community centre. Kim laughs Denise's suggestion off, but later reluctantly agrees after reading several negative reviews on Bed, Breakfast & Blog. Also, Liam returns home after an elongated break in France, and reveals to Carol that he is nervous about the upcoming trial. Meanwhile, Peter's suspicions arise when he spots Ian acting anxious in Carl's presence in The Queen Vic. And, Abi is pleased to hear that a Veterinary Surgery is due to open in Albert Square later this month. Duff Duff: Ava Hartman & Sam James |

Former 'Waterloo Road' actor cast as 'EastEnders' Vet
EastEnders bosses have announced that former Waterloo Road star William Ash is joining the soap. The actor, best known for playing Waterloo Road deputy head Christopher Mead, has landed the role of newcomer Simon Gellar and has already begun filming. Ash's character, Simon Gellar arrives in Walford as the lead veterinary surgeon at the new veterinary clinic, which opens in Walford later this month (July). Billed as "vocationally passionate, socially awkward and intelligent", Simon is to pose as somewhat of a loner in Albert Square, until he forms a friendship with the impressionable Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald), as they both share a common interest in Animals. Speaking of the casting, executive producer EEFanatic commented: "As a fan of Waterloo Road, I'm delighted to welcome William to the cast of EastEnders. I have no doubt that William will create a lasting impression on viewers of the show as Simon Gellar. We're heading for a big summer in Walford, and Simon will be a huge part of it, with a shocking storyline in store". Ash played the role of Christopher Mead on Waterloo Road between 2009 - 2011, and has recently starred in sitcoms Being Eileen and Great Night Out. The first scenes featuring Simon Gellar will air towards the end of July. |

Its morning in the Beale household, and with Lucy at the café, Peter takes the opportunity to question Ian about Carl. Ian acts as a closed book to begin with until Peter guesses that Carl was behind the damage caused in Scarlett's, which cause Ian to unravel, revealing that Carl near enough confessed to the fire. Peter is adamant that Ian call the police, but Ian refuses to, and instead heads off to Scarlett's, where Janine is awaiting his arrival. Due to the damage and lack of business as a result, Janine reveals to Ian that she's pulling out of the restaurant venture, and requires her funding back. Ian is gobsmacked, pleading with Janine to change her mind, as he cannot afford to repay her. Janine simply doesn't care, telling Ian that he has one week to repay her in full, otherwise not only will the payment increase but the pressure too. Ian gulps in fear, as Janine makes her exit. As Ian worries that Scarlett's is heading for closure, Peter confronts Carl in Cindy's about the damage caused to Scarlett's. Carl mocks Peter's attempts at acting menacing and barges past him, heading for the exit. Wanting to scare Carl, Peter proclaims that Ian has called the police, which angers Carl as he storms over to Scarlett's. In the restaurant, Ian is on the phone to his solicitor, but is left further disappointed when the solicitor informs Ian that Janine can withdrew from the partnership at any time with full payment from Ian, as its written in the contract they both signed. Sighing, Ian hangs up the phone, dropping it in shock as Carl bursts into Scarlett's, forcefully pushing Ian into the kitchen. Carl twists Ian's arm, which causes him to yelp in pain, demanding to know why he called the police, after he previously told Carl that he wouldn't. Fearing for his life, Ian protests that he didn't, and after hearing that Peter informed Carl, Ian admits that Peter was lying as he wanted to help out Ian. Carl accepts this, but warns Ian that he doesn't like being lied to, and as a result Ian has one week to pay the ten grand in full, otherwise Ian will face consequences. As Carl makes his exit, Ian breaks down under his increasing financial pressure... Michael is aware that Jack is growing tired of Michael's constant moping about Scarlett, and plans to look for alternative accommodation and sets himself a mission to move back in with Janine, heading over to seduce her. However, Michael's nose is put out of joint as Danny Pennant arrives, in a flash sports car, wanting to speak with Janine. Janine ends her conversation with Michael, and heads out to lunch with Danny, leaving Alice with Scarlett, and Michael to head over to The Queen Vic to seek solace in a Whiskey. Whilst moping at the bar Michael confides in his former flame about Danny Pennant, but is intrigued when Roxy reveals that the name is familiar to her, as he had an affair with Syed Masood last year. Revelling in the information that Danny is gay, Michael gleefully reveals the truth to Janine, but Danny defends himself, revealing that he is in fact bisexual. Janine is smug as Michael squirms out of the pub. With his plan having failed so far, Michael turns to manipulating Alice again, securing a home for the moment. Bianca, Carol, Whitney, Tyler, Tiffany and Morgan celebrate Liam's return to the Square, after a break away in France with Ricky. Bianca can see Liam is worried about something, and takes him aside for a talk. During the heart-to-heart, Liam reveals that he is worried about the upcoming trial. Bianca assures her son that everything will be okay, as she believes in him as he is doing the right thing. Also, Bianca is hurt to learn from Liam that Ricky is currently seeing another woman. As Dexter makes up with Jay at The Arches after interference from Phil, Sam reveals to Ava that he cannot return to the B&B as his room has already been booked out, and there's no space. Ava is unsure over allowing Sam to move in, as she thinks it may be too fast for Dexter. Sam admits he can see this, but he has nowhere else to stay. Ava agrees that Sam can stay, but Dexter doesn't take to it lightly, as whilst he's given his blessing to the relationship, he still doesn't want a Father/Son relationship with Sam. Sam promises Dexter that whilst he lives with Ava and Dexter, he will refrain from getting in Dexter's way. Dexter still isn't happy, but accepts the compromise. Meanwhile, Kim decides to duck out of attending the business course, but is caught red-handed by Denise as she tucks into Lunch at the café. Furious with Kim, Denise insists that she will accompany Kim to her first session tomorrow. Also, Kat confides in Shirley about her worries concerning Jean's mental health, which leaves the shop assistant feeling guilty. And, Patrick and Betty's dance rehearsal leads to a kiss between the pair. Duff Duff: Ian Beale |

'EastEnders' return for Peggy Mitchell
EastEnders bosses have announced that Barbara Windsor is returning to the soap for one weeks worth of episodes. The actress will be back on screen as former Landlady Peggy Mitchell in the Autumn as part of storylines featuring son Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), and nieces Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) and Ronnie Mitchell, as actress Samantha Womack makes her comeback during the summer period after two years away from Walford. When Peggy learns of the troubles that Phil, Roxy and Ronnie face themselves in, and true to from Peggy decides to put Family first and return to the Square. Speaking of her comeback, Barbara Windsor commented: "It is no secret how much I have always loved EastEnders and Peggy Mitchell, and by the number of times I'm constantly stopped by the great British public and asked either 'When are you coming back?' or 'Please say, get out of my pub', it seems they have too." Windsor continued: "It may only be a short visit, but it's a family matter and as Peggy always said, 'It's all about family'." Executive Producer of EastEnders, EEFanatic expressed his delight at securing a return for Barbara Windsor: "I'm over the moon, as is everybody, to be welcoming Barbara Windsor back into the helm of EastEnders. Whilst Peggy's return is short, it is sure to be a treat for fans of the show, old or new." EEFanatic also revealed that Windsor was initially signed up for a one-episode guest stint, but after further talks Windsor agreed to reprise the role for four episodes, one of which is rumoured to be an hour-long. Barbara Windsor originally left the role in September 2010, after 15 years on the show, where Peggy decided to leave Walford in order to allow Phil to sort out his life, following his cocaine addiction which lead to a fire at The Queen Vic. We can also exclusively reveal that Anna Karen, who played Peggy's sardonic sister Sal Martin commonly referred to as Aunt Sal, is in talks to make a return alongside Barbara Windsor. Aunt Sal was last seen in April 2011, when a depressed Ronnie turned to her after escaping from Walford. |

EastEnders | Friday 12th July 2013
It's the day after Carl's threat to Ian, and its clear he's on edge. Peter walks in on his father tending to his arm, and quizzes Ian over the mysterious bruises which cover his arm. Ian is forced to admit to Peter that Carl is responsible, after Peter's plan to scare him backfired. Peter advises they call the police, for real this time, however Ian refuses too, as it will only cause more aggravation for him in the long-run. Peter can sense there is more to the story, and after pushing Ian for the details he has kept back Peter is shocked when Ian admits he funded the restaurant with money he found in the lock-up which he presumed to belong to the late Derek Branning, but infact the real owner was Carl, who's demanding his £10,000 back by next week. Ian then goes onto admit that not only is Carl demanding his money back, but Janine too, as she wants to pull out of the restaurant venture. After Ian shares his financial worries, Peter suggests talking to Lucy about a loan. Ian is unsure of the idea, but with no other option, he reluctantly agrees. Later, Ian takes Peter's advice, and attempts to butter up Lucy by organising a Family lunch, inviting Joey along. Lucy is suspicious throughout as she feels Ian has an ulterior motive, but enjoys herself as she spends time with Joey, Ian, Peter, Bobby and Denise. Once the meal has finished, Lucy offers to clear the table, leading Ian to insist he help. As they take the plates into the kitchen, Ian takes the opportunity to ask Lucy about a loan. Lucy brands Ian a coward for buttering her up, but Ian starts to beg for the money, as he desperately needs it. For a split second it seems Lucy is considering handing over the money Ian needs, but refuses to part with money, as Ian still owes her money after forging a cheque last month. Ian is left shattered as Lucy calls him pathetic... Janine turns to Danny with help in throwing out some of her tenants who have not payed their rent, just as Michael turns up in Butcher's Joints. Hearing of Janine's plan, Michael scoffs, proclaiming the he could've done the task, and Janine didn't have to run to posh city boy Danny. Janine tells Michael that she needed someone she could trust, and seeing as she and Michael are no longer together, her business is nothing of his business, before leaving for a meeting over lunch. With Janine gone, Michael takes the chance to snoop, and under the mess of Janine's desk, he comes across the business card of Danny, and makes some calls. Michael is in his element when he discovers Danny was fired from his Financial Advisory job, and is now unemployed, information which he takes pleasure in passing onto Janine as she returns. Michael leaves with a smug smile etched on his face, which Janine's expression is one of bemusement. When Danny returns after a successful day of evicting tenants, Janine pulls him up over his lies. Danny admits that he knew Janine wouldn't have given him the time of the day if she knew his employment situation, which leaves Janine admiring him all the more. Wanting to make amends with Patrick after slamming the door in his face last week, Cora invites him for a drink in the Queen Vic, but is left disheartened when Patrick admits he and Betty already have plans. Patrick can sense Cora's downbeat mood, so invites her to the B&B to spend the day with him and Betty. Knowing she doesn't have a better option, Cora agrees, but she later regrets it as Betty begins to grate on her nerves as they talk over a Cup of Tea and Betty's homemade cake. Cora spends the afternoon making snide remarks towards Betty, which Patrick grows tired off, and eventually asks Cora to leave. Cora is shocked, but obliges albeit with one last remark. In the pub, Cora reflects on her childish behaviour, and the fact she upset friend Patrick. Also today, Liam prepares for the court case on Monday; Dexter hides his annoyance over the fact Sam is making himself at home; Jean attempts to talk to Ian, but chickens out at the last minute in fear of revealing the truth; Joey isn't too please to find Michael has moved back in; and, Kim is left annoyed when Denise leaves halfway through the business course. Duff Duff: Ian Beale This episode is dedicated to EastEnders legend Anna Wing, who sadly passed away aged 98. RIP Anna Wing. |

WALFORD GAZETTE 'EastEnders' actress quits Kierston Wareing has decided to part ways with her 'EastEnders role, it has been announced. Wareing was introduced as the secret wife of long-running character Max Branning (Jake Wood), Kirsty Branning on 25th December 2012, as Max was due to re-marry Tanya Cross (Jo Joyner). Initially Max declined Kirsty's advances in hope of salvaging his romance with Tanya, but once Tanya had shot down any chance of a reunion, Max reconciled with Kirsty. However after only a few months together on Albert Square, it was clear Max desperately wanted Tanya, and desperate to keep her man, Kirsty lied that she was expecting their baby. Max was overjoyed, whilst Kirsty hid her guilt, until it eventually came tumbling out when Max discovered a negative Pregancy test of Kirtsy. Max was furious and dumped Kirsty, and headed straight for Tanya, but she was heading in a completely different direction - Exeter, to be precise. Kirsty has remained alone since, dodging the advances of her recently released from prison ex-boyfriend, Carl White (Daniel Coonan). Executive Producer, EEFanatic: "Kierston's time has been fairly short but incredibly sweet. The biggest drama in 2013 so far has centred around the character of Kirsty, and her baby dilemma. In the next few weeks, we will see Kirsty move away from her dependence on Max, and begin to build a life of her own on Albert Square. However it won't last for long. Kirsty's exit will be the source of shocking drama, and it will have an affect on all the Square's residents". Kirsty's exit scenes will air in September. |

EASTENDERS | MONDAY 13th JULY 2013
The beginning of Lil' Chris' trial for the stabbing of Liam has arrived, and Liam is feeling increasingly pressured about presenting evidence against Lil' Chris, in fear the gang will target him again. Bianca does her best to quash the worries, but puts her foot in it, leading Liam to declare that he will not attend the trial, meaning Lil' Chris will walk free, and does a runner from home. Bianca is frantic with worry that Liam has returned to the estate, as she confides in Ava. Dexter overhears the conversation, and heads out in search of Liam, eventually finding him on the community swings. The two lads talk about their separate gang experiences, and after Liam hears Dexter's story, it persuades his mind about giving evidence. Relieved that her son has returned and changes his mind, Bianca heads to the court with Liam alongside Ava and Dexter, who are providing moral support.
