Coronation Street ratings plummetted to its worst ever in its 53 year history. An audience of only 4.9million viewers watched the ailing Northern soap between 8.30-9pm, the first time in the program's history that an audience of less than 5million have watched the goings-on of the Street. It comes as a bitter blow to the soap which has now lost the ratings battle versus EastEnders two Fridays in a row.

Hardly fair as Corrie was on during Wimbledon and Enders was on directly afterwards.

Eh?

Coronation Street interested 5.54m (27.6%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 207k (0.9%) on +1 as David directed his anger towards Gail
That's not 4.9m is it? Also I think we can let them off considering it was up against a British person at Wimbledon on the BBC

Yeah this is hardly a big thing when they're going head to head with Wimbledom, lol.

It's hardly surprising considering it was up against Murray's match, which had the highest TV ratings of the year.

More of a concern is EE's rating. It only narrowly beat Corrie, despite having the tennis as a lead-in. I know it was out of it's usual time slot, but still, over half the viewing audience switched over, or switched off. Not good.

Ignore Samuel, he's exactly the same on the ratings thread. He's beside himself that Corrie was dented by the tennis last night.

Corrie will probably timeshift quite a bit, it was obvious that the ratings would be dented last night.

We're used to here. If any soap falls below average - even if it is up against something that everyone will be watching they're still be a thread stating that it is trouble and ITV/BBC/C4 needs to do something about it. And it usually turns into Corrie v EastEnders thread.

Just another normal day on the DS soap forum really

Normally theres an Eastenders ratings thread so in the balance for fairness, because Coro got its worst ever ratings yesterday, it was worth mentioning this by making a thread about it. It's big news!

Precisely! Quite tragic really that people have nothing else better to do then start "soap wars".

Not surprising Corrie was up against Wimbledon.

Shocker as Andy Murray was up in a Semi-Final match. Would imagine majority of people simply taped it and watched later like I did. Same as the previous Friday where Murray was also on court. I don't think Corrie have to worry too much.

The OP said 8:30-9:00pm not 7:30pm.

Not surprised. The current story line involving David Pratt is very boring and like watching a pantomime!

I will be glad when it comes to a conclusion.

The thing is, Corrie will be back to it's usual summer rating of 7 and a bit million come Monday. It had no chance against Andy Murray whatsoever.

Eastenders is a cause for concern. I can see it dipping to it's worst ever or even equalling it this summer as there is little happening. Quite alarming 65% of an audience switched off after Murray finished playing.
