What happened to her? She was everywhere in the 90s, and she hasn't been in anything in years, except a few flops in the 00s. I haven't been able to warm to her since she cut her hair, but she had a few hits after that so that can't be it.

I don't think her interview with Michael Parkinson helped her cause.

She's just another of those here today, gone tomorrow starlets, very few actors endure beyond a decade.

And her lips. But ask Kerri Russel about hair cutting.

Russell Crowe

Career crumbled after that whole thing.

Also, she built her career on adorable perkiness. Once she started aging, she lost that appeal.

What Barry said.

If she had stuck to cutesy rom-com roles she'd probably still be raking it in- even as an older woman she could've gone down the Blythe Danner route and started taking on 'mom/ aunt' roles to today's younger stars. Whatever you think of Jennifer Aniston, she knows what makes her the money and doesn't stray too far from her comfort zone.

But Meg tried some 'serious' roles, had the affair with Russel Crowe and dug her own grave on TV with the UK's most established chat show host. I'm not entirely sad about her downfall to be honest. She was great in Harry Met Sally and Seattle but when I see her now- being papped or suchlike- I can't help but see her as an incredibly unpleasant woman.

Well she wanted to get out of the rom com roles and no one liked the movies she was doing. I'm sure her plastic surgery didn't help either.

I think Parkinson was worse than her in that interview. He was really unprofessional.

Parkinson wasn't to blame for that interview. She clearly didn't want to be there and was being difficult right from the start. Parkinson indulged her far longer than he needed to.

I think it was. Parkinson should've been a professional and moved on instead of pushing certain questions. He knew she felt awkward yet continued.

I wholeheartedly agree. She had a rough time there and Parkinson made it worse. Some of the questions felt more like an attack. I also think that people at the time were being hard on her when she did films that were not rom-coms. You can tell that after she did Hanging Up or Kate & Leopold, she was sick of the genre altogether. So, she did films like Proof of Life and The Cut. I saw one of her recent films, Serious Moonlight, which goes back to her rom-com days. It was really uncomfortable to watch because it looked like Meg just didn't want to be there. It looked really forced.

i loved her in the 90s though i think her type of romcom isn't made anymore. she was a great comedienne - nowadays you get the latest tween star in romcoms and it just isn't the same.

agree parkinson was dreadful with her, and russell crowe didn't help her much (though why did his career not stall?? different for a woman i guess...!)

you don't really get those smart new york comedies any more really do you? or romcoms with a good soundtrack, eg sleepless in seattle, my best friend's wedding.

Regardless of who was carries most of the blame, the end result was the same.

Parkinson had form for treating female interviewees with mixture of lechery and disrespect:

I hate myself for admitting this, but 'French Kiss' is a fantastic film.
Predictable? Yes. Realistic? No. But I do find it extremely funny for some reason.

Anyway, I digress.
The Parkinson interview, The Russell Crowe (alleged) affair and the bad lip surgery made her very unlikeable IMO. She never really recovered from it all.

She was awkward right from the start. When he asked his first question she remained silent and only reluctantly answered. She was clearly in a bad mood over something and should have cancelled her appearance.

In Meg Ryan's case he didn't. By that point in her career, no one was leering over her. She had obliterated her face. All her good looks had gone. Her perky persona had also given way to a surly one.

Was the Parkinson interview that big a deal other than here in the UK? He is certainly not a household name in the States.

What was the last film she was in? The Women? She was unrecognisable in that anyway.

She's like the movie version of Anthea Turner.
