Yeah............egg and chips is fantastic
You need at least 2 slices of white sliced bread...........one for a chip butty and one to dip in the eggs............ I might have that as a treat for Christmas dinner this year............

You know, when you're just in the mood for, there's nothing finer. Used to call at my nans for lunch when I was at college, chips & eggs was often on the menu and it was like ambrosia, with 2 white doorsteps spread with real butter and a mug of tea. Chips were cooked in beef dripping too!

Two thick slices of proper ham, two fried eggs sunny side up, a pile of home-made fried chips sprinkled with salt and Sarsons vinegar, two slices of proper white bread spread with real butter, Heinz ketchup on the side of the plate, mug of tea.
No finer meal. |

Always 'egg and chips' to me. Only ever heard it called 'chips and egg' in Shirley Valentine, where the actress cooked them live on stage and it made me starving.
Whichever way round, lovely food. Even better with some baked beans. |

I prefer it neat................
![]() there's something about the texture, crisp, greasy and salty, which the beans ruin a bit be introducing a moistening......... they soggify the chips............... ![]() ![]() beans and chips is fine but it's a different animal to egg and chips................. |

I used to take my son to Wimpys when he was little and he would always order egg and chips with 2 slices of bread and butter cut into triangles. If I made it at home he would say it wasn't the same.

I love egg and chips but try not to eat it more than once a month. A special treat. It always has been since I was a kid.

Do you know, I haven't had egg and chips in years.
It's strange but just seeing the words written on the screen bring back memories of childhood holidays at the seaside eating at harbour side cafe's. Happy days.

As a child ( I'm 55 now
) however, I remember my late Nan cooked the chips in a chip pan then broke the egg into the hot oil so it went all frilly & brown at the edges. I loved it! My Late Mother, who was a rubbish cook I have to say used to be aghast.![]() I loved my Nan's egg & chips regardless.

Chips and egg was the best tea ever - luckily because it was fairly cheap we had it a lot when I was a kid
![]() Nowadays, the closest I get is ham egg + chips if I eat at a wetherspoons, but it's just not the same as chips cooked in my mums old-fashioned deep fryer (the kind you had to heat on the hob). The crispy white was always the best bit too

Just reading this (tho' I'd say egg "n" chips!) took me back to my childhood. Lovely.
