I've recently moved flat and I'm investigating digital tv solutions for the new place.

I used to have sky (and loved it) but I can't get it in the new flat as it's a heritage building and I'm not allowed to put up a dish and I can't get NTL or Telewest in my area.

I've checked the homechoice site, and it says it is available where I am, so I'm considering that.

I have a couple of questions, I take it this is digital TV via ADSL.

Is there any data caps with the internet service, or can I download to my hearts content?

Is it worth getting the wireless solution they offer (£125), or can I just get the £1 install and then plug a wireless adapter into the STB (I already have wireless built into my laptop).

I read that you need to keep your BT phoneline, does that still apply - I have the basic BT service at the moment (~£15 per month)?

Will it work with Microsoft Media Center?

The service is theoretically capped, although this doesn't appear to be enforced at the moment. The cap depends on which service you subscribe to (5Gb per month for 512k, 1Gb per DAY for 1Mb, 45Gb per month for 2Mb). The TV service does not count towards these limits.

No, you might as well use your own router if you're comfortable with settings it up - it'll work just as well.

Yes, you do need to keep the basic BT line rental (10.50 by direct debit), though HC can route your calls to give you free evening & weekend calls at no extra cost, at no extra cost.

I've been with HC since the summer & can genuinely say I'm very happy with the service. Sure, there's better value broadband services around, but as an overall package you can't really beat it.

It's a shame about the data cap - I was seriously considering this, but although I probably wouldn't do more than 30GB a month, I definitely would do more than 1GB per day on the odd occassion and I can't afford the 2MB option.

Oh well, looks like it's freeview and DSL for me....
