EPISODE FOURTEEN 88/100: (August 7th 2014)
Lauren calls to her dad’s for milk and to lambast him for not showing for dinner last night. She finds him in a state in the living room and asks what he thinks he’s playing at. Jay emerges from the kitchen with a slice of toast saying Max didn’t come in until early this morning. Lauren looks at Max pondering what piece of skirt he was with this time. Her mouth drops as he tells her he’s ill.
Phil is a man on a mission and heads off early to organise everything. Keyser looks at him with disdain as he scrunches up a betting slip outside the betting shop. He’s interested to see him stop and talk to Dean. Phil encourages Dean to reconcile with mum but Dean just stubs out his cigarette and heads back into the salon. Phil also goes inside to Dean’s amusement to give Roxy a message. Keyser’s mind whirs as he watches Phil walk around like Lord of the manor.
Bevis is a flurry of excitement and says his goodbyes to dan as he prepares to welcome his family who will be staying at the B&B for the night. Dan is working and will be making his way to Lotty’s afterwards. Dan looks back as he leaves the house for one final time as an unmarried man. The market is buzzing with excitement about their impending nuptials. Gary seethes when he sees the hero reception dan receives on entering the market for his last day working on the Pact Coffee stall.
Carol is keen to apologise to Janine. When she calls round, Janine invites her in for a coffee stating they need to work together to find dullag, ‘I don’t want to sit at that window waiting for him to come home. I did that for long enough with my father.’ Carol asks is there anyone else he could be staying with that they haven’t checked. Janine says he was staying with an elderly woman called Vald before he moved in with her, ‘she took him in off the streets.’ Carol says it’s worth a shot.
Also tonight, Paula settles in at Vald’s place. Toni is anxious about the new situation she finds herself in. Sorcha emerges from her house in a state and wheels Eddy off into the distance. O…O is fed up of stinking of fish and dreams of a career move.
Lauren asks Max why he has told people before getting checked out, ‘Wouldn’t it be easier to wait and see if you’ve got it, especially with your track record!’ Max sighs that he panicked and says he has an appointment in a few days. He hears Abi coming down the stairs and shakes his head at Lauren to give her the nod not to tell her anything.
David sees Maurice in a world of his own on The Swings of Sorrow and approaches him. Maurice asks if he knows about Max and Sorcha. David smirks asking if he should. Maurice glumly looks up at him, David feels sorry for him, ‘My daughter, Bianca, is free and single if you want me to set ye up on a date?’ Maurice quips that he ain’t that desperate.
Gary lets himself into Janine’s place with the key he ‘borrowed’ yesterday. He finds the Emily files and goes back to Dot’s to look through them thoroughly. Meanwhile, Janine and Carol visit vald to see if she has seen or heard from dullagj. She invites them in and is regretful to inform them that she wasn’t aware he was missing, ‘I didn’t even know his mother was back in contact.’ Carol thanks her for everything she has done for him. Vald sympathises saying she wishes she had the chance to make it up with her own boys.
Max calls to sorcha’s to check on her but there’s no answer. Maurice watches him from afar as he leaves and heads to the car lot. David greets him, inquiring about the new floozy he has on the go. Max turns on his heels and goes for the exit. David sighs for him to wait, he was only pulling his leg, although not the same one as Sorcha. Max rubs his eyes and he opens up about his new predicament.
Sorcha kneels in the third row of the church, her head bowed turned towards the altar. Dot is pottering around the church when she recognises her. Eddy begins to cry in his pram which is sitting on the right hand side of the aisle. Dot walks over and lifts his pacifier which he has spat out onto the ground. Dot asks Sorcha how she is. Sorcha tries to speak but she just breaks down. Dot tries to hold her as best she can.
Phil waits as everyone gathers in the Mitchell house for the family portrait. Everyone makes it and he’s happy with the results but he can’t help but feel it’s missing someone. He rings up the prison for a visiting order to see Ben only to be informed that he was released a few months ago…
Sorcha reminisces with Dot how religion has always held such a big place in her life and a church feels like a home from home, ‘I remember getting my best coat fastened when I was four and a half years old and heading to this strange place where I had to be quiet. My mum has always been an avid church goer. I suppose it comes from her.’ Dot states that she wouldn’t be here without her faith, it’s nothing to be ashamed of, ‘I think of all the people that have gone before me and I wonder why I am still here.’
Dan is tearful as he clears up on the market one last time. All cleared up, he looks around the market and all that surrounds it. It still takes his breath away but he knows the time is right to move on and make a fresh start. He calls a taxi from his old rank and asks them to take the long way round the Square. Back at the house, Bevis anxiously awaits the arrival of his folks.
Gary sips from a mug of coffee as he carefully reads each piece of information, jotting down anything he deems important on a small notepad. When he sees someone phoned the police stating that Bevis killed his sister with a doggy doorstep, his head turns towards the kitchen door which is being held opened by one.
A shocked Gary gets the duff duff:
