I think they've been commenting fairly constantly for a few months now on every race..........I think they're just trying to drum the message home and it's not particularly related to what happens on any specific day

It's more of a general campaign by the riders and organisers

Why does the KM points start about 15 minutes after they start cycling.
I am going up to see it tomorrow as its only a 2 minute walk to Stratford to see it. Have to decide through if to see it in the Olympic park or go into the main road. What is promotional caravans like before the race. Worth seeing considering it's 90 minutes before the race comes along;

I suppose. It's only in the last couple of months that I've seen safety adverts, etc. One factor is that the continental mountain stages are a bit of a lost cause because so many spectators are pissed by the time the riders go by.

LOL, has anyone ever done that? An ordinary member of Joe Public just hopped on their bike and joined in the peloton?

Because racing in the streets of the start town would be dangerous, so there's a neutralised zone before the real start.

You'd think they'd have had a pee before the start.............

Fancy stopping near spectactors to whip your tackle out for a wee. You could be snapped in all your glory!

Look! Some lucky spectators are going to get a full frontal of the Yellow Jersey peeing in a hedgerow!

I've seen the caravan when the Tour last came to London about 6/7 years ago.......it's not the kind of thing that I'd go out early to watch.......it's just like a parade with loads of floats and stuff........not really my cup of tea as something to watch

But if you're out early anyway to get a good place it's something to entertain the crowd.............and they throw lots of 'goodies' from the floats

I LOL'd during the 2012 Tour, when half the peloton stopped on a posh residential street for a pee.

The riders can get fined for pee'ing in inappropriate places !

Menwith Hill spying base. Never heard of it before. Looks very futuristic.

Côte De Blubberhouses just doesn't sound right.

Good to see the crowds holding back a bit more today.

Some spectactors went completely backwards down the verge during that crash.

Someone lost a power meter? Oops. Some lucky spectator just grabbed a grand's worth off the road.

I bet no-one was expecting this cobbled high street climb.

That was a great stretch that cobbled part. Enough to make me want to go visit it.

I haven't been too impressed with the British dogs so far this Tour. Day and a half and not one has ran out into the road in front of the peloton.

the breakaway group appears to be stretching out the lead again............it came down to just over a minute but is now back over 3 minutes

I'm certainly enjoying this whole-stage coverage. It'll be a pity when it goes back to a couple of hours when in France. I'm not sure whether there are any more full days' coverage after today. You get the odd one or two I think on infamous mountain stages.

That's not too bad then. I guess they are alpine and Pyrenees stages.

Tbh, other than the stretch of cobbles on stage 5 there isn't a lot that will happen after today until stage 8 in the races, bar the last 15 minutes of each race. Unless there are crosswinds. Tomorrow will be good but mainly from a scenery perspective.

But from around stages 12-20 there are plenty which should be shown in full and a few will, as they will unfold from the start.
