The decision by Wiggins to concentrate solely on the team pursuit is something of a surprise, considering that in training at Manchester he has apparently been circulating at world record pace in the individual event, an event he has won 2 olympic golds in,

the individual event has of course been dropped from the Olympics so I guess he's just 'focussing' on his Olympic event

I can't see that it would have done him any harm to ride the individual as well two years out from the Olympics..........after all he'd have ridden the Tour de France if he'd been picked for the team !

I guess in his case it's more understandable as he's only a young lad and a 3 week tour might be too much for him at this stage of his career.........and of course he was brought into the team at the last minute when someone pulled out so he didn't have a proper preparation
Yes, he did say it was the longest he had ridden in one race. I think he actually went a good few days longer than expected.

The pluses are that he seems well able to cope with the GT's and Orica are bringing him on well.

All I've got is the souvenir programme from when the Tour came to London in 2007

With a big two page photo of Lance Armstrong inside the front cover......

He probably thought it wouldn't be a good thing to appear to just swan back in and take 2 slots away from other riders.

oops.

Feeding stations are the best places - came away with a couple of musettes and 20 bidons once.

It makes me smile now the Tour has designated drop off points so the road isn't littered - chasing a bidon into a field is half the fun!

Last edited by aggs : 22-07-2014 at 15:07. Reason: Changing bison to bidon. Have never chased bison in field - even in France.

Kind of sad watching Kirienko pounding away at the front here just as he would be doing if Wiggo or Froome were behind him.

60 mph on the downhill in the last 20km ? Looked pretty scary on the highlights.

Looked nail biting.
Am enjoying the Boardman bits of the ITV highlights - and he still looks good on a bike

Cracking stage today. Pinot definitely the big winner on the day.

Ten Dam's Strava file for yesterday's stage: http://www.strava.com/activities/169422815/analysis

Pinot's Strava GPS went awry on the final descent.

Gerrans has withdrawn from the Tour to recover from injuries missing the two remaining sprinter stages. Uneventful Tour for OGE especially compared to their success in the first week of the Giro.

Contador says "Adios a la Vuelta" citing complications. No updates from Froome about his fractures since his Tour withdrawal.

Just opened YouTube to look for something horse racing related and was surprised to see Tommy Voeckler as the 'feature' video of the day..........somebody filmed him stopping mid-race to berate some fans.......

I've been a bit disappointed with OGE this year after their fantastic effort in Corsica last year. Was hoping Simon would get a stage win instead of all these fellas I'm not really bothered about.

Today looks a real tester with 4 big climbs in the last 55K........3 category 1 and a HC summit finish

wonder who'll crack ?

Could be a bit different today from a normal stage where there are big climbs at the end.

Normally a breakaway would get away and stay away until the last climb when the GC teams will start battling and might/might not catch them for the stage win

Today though with all the KoM points available it might be that it will be a lot harder for a breakaway to get a decent lead as there are so many riders who'll want to be contesting the points right from the first climb

Nibali himself has stated that he wants the polka dot jersey........so Astana and other teams might be chasing down the break a lot earlier than they would normally

As predicted above.........Rodrigues' team and Nibali's team are on the front keeping the gap at under a minute

I reckon they're going for the mountain points right from the first climb which should make it an extra tough, but more exciting, day !

That was funny. I thought they might have had a wrestling match.

Yep........but still only a minute or so to the chasing group and 5 minutes to the peloton

They could still catch him on the last climb
