Another Astana rider has failed a dope test

Artur Fedosseyev tested positive for anabolic steroids following a race in France in August

He's the fifth team member to fail a test this year, all 5 are Khazaks

The UCI were already reviewing Astana's license following the first 3 dope test failures

Be interesting to see if they decide to revoke the license - perhaps give us an indication of how seriously they are now taking the doping issue

Nibali has distanced himself from all the doped riders saying it had nothing to do with him.......

I'm sure it isn't, but he would be well advised to jump ship. Can't imagine anyone would hold him to his contract.

Ross Edgar and Vicky Pendleton doing the chatting

They only appear to bother doing commentary on the British races otherwise it's chatting about the sport........which is quite interesting

It's on for the next two nights as well

I'm leaving this now for the telly

Really enjoyed this radio coverage.......

One thing to watch out for.........in the women's pursuit semi something happened which Vicky said she'd never seen before

won't spoil it in case you're watching the highlights later.........

GB won both the men's and women's pursuits

The strange thing came in the women's semi where GB caught up to the US but instead of lapping them they sat in and slipstreamed to the finish to save energy for the final !.........

I'm not clear what's happening with the red button but you can watch live on the BBC website......

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/

and of course it's on the radio again tonight

Cav has gone one better on the 6 day circuit.......after finishing 2nd in Ghent he's won the Zurich 6 Day with team-mate Keisse from OPQS.........shame ES haven't covered this as it's good to dip in and out of

Finally caught up with it. Sad to see that the Aussie team pursuit squad, nailed on for gold, get a puncture and failed to finish their semi.

Is Laura on last again?

Laura is on now in the Elimination race for the Omnium........

I've got the pictures on the website and the commentary on the radio

Laura has already won the first two events in the omnium......

Trotty got beat........finished 2nd

She's still leading after 3 events with the Dutch girl 2 points behind

It's not the first time someone has beaten her in an elimination race. I can recall three instances from the previous season - 2013 EC (she was 3rd), 2013/14 WCu in Manchester (2nd), and 2014 WC (4th!)

All things considered, she's still had one of her best 'first-half' omnium performances. Wild was also 2nd in both prior events, hence the narrow points difference.

British lads are leading in the Madison coming into the final laps......

Just to tidy that up.......the British lads won the Madison and Trotty won her gold in the Omnium

Surprised to see that the former England wicket-keeper, Matt Prior, has co-founded a new pro cycling team to be known as One Pro Cycling. They have applied for a Continental level license from the UCI. Apart from a Dane and a Pole the other riders are Brits

Good to see another British team !

Astana have been granted a World Tour place despite ongoing investigations: http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/...-doping_355587

The bad old days are back (or was it just PR guff that made us think they ever went away),

Pat Quaid, former UCI Boss, has just been on the radio......

He basically said that he thinks the UCI have now done everything they can do

His message seemed to be that everything is in place but they can't actually stop any individual taking banned substances.........all they can do now is try and catch them

Sarah Storey has announced that she is going to have an attempt at the women's hour world record in February at the London Velodrome - the record of 46.065km is currently held by Leontien Zijlaard.

I notice that Victoria Pendleton has been getting a few gigs on the BBC lately........and jolly good she is too

She did co-commentary of the radio for the recent World Cup and also notice that she did the TV highlights round up with Jonathan Edwards

She also turns up on R5 Live sometimes in the evening when there's a cycling story

As from tomorrow, Thursday, she's getting her own slot between 8 and 10pm for the first in an intermittent series called 'The Mind of......' which will explore the psychology of various sports, starting with cycling, Future episodes will deal with golf, long distance running, motor racing, boxing

the first episode sees her interviewing the likes of Wiggo, Sir Chris and Steve Peters, the team's former psychologist

Should be a good listen..........I don't think there's anything on telly on Thursday nights......

A good news story in cycling as Jason Kenny and Laura Trott announce their engagement.

http://www.theguardian.com/sport/201...nny-engagement

I wish them well.

Laura particularly is exciting to watch - especially in the elimination race where she always comes from the back.

Yeah, good luck to them......

Has anyone noticed that Emma Pooley is on one of the Oxford University college teams in the Christmas University Challenge series.........her team have got to the final !

She answered questions about French, Spanish and German words and binary numbers.........but she showed a discerning habit of regularly not appearing to understand the questions.......

Cavendish fears he will not qualify for the track in Rio 2016. UCI qualification rules are incompatible with his professional road contract: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/30736418

Simon Gerrans of OGE will not defend his home stage race win after breaking his collarbone just before Christmas.

As usual, early season races of the TDU and Tour Sans Luis are not on Eurosport.
swingaleg
08-01-2015
Meanwhile Wiggo wil start his own team to ride in domestic events and on the track with the aim of providing British riders with experience before Rio

Team Wiggins will mainly comprise young British riders.......names mentioned are England's Andy Tennant, Jon Dibben, Steven Burke, Daniel Patten and Mike Thompson, Welshman Owain Doull, Mark Christian of the Isle of Man and Scotland's Iain Paton.

Not quite sure how this will work.

The statement says the team will be independent of British Cycling but the governing body has given it's backing to the project. Surely.the team will be a rival to the established development squads at Sky and GB Cycling ?
