The first World Tour race of 2015 gets under way at the weekend with The Tour Down Under

Sky have picked a few British riders in their team - Pete Kennaugh, Richie Porte, Salvatore Puccio, Luke Rowe, Ian Stannard, Chris Sutton, Geraint Thomas.

Richie Porte will be Team Leader

Not sure about TV coverage. I think it's been on Sky Sports for the last couple of years ?......and I seem to remember that they've had a couple of stages on 'live', although very late at night !

There's definitely some coverage listed, but I think it conflicts with cricket, so probably not always live like before.

The final race before retirement for the most successful Australian rider and Tour winner, Cadel Evans.

Live coverage of Tour San Luis (Spanish commentary). From limited viewing last night, it seemed to have only a single camera in a helicopter alternating with two guys in a studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btmRcd52Usg#t=9743

Temperatures in western Australia for the TDU could reach 50 degC http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/30904483

Live TV coverage is planned for ES.

TDU Stage 5 highlights are worth a watch. Cross winds on the approach to the familiar Willunga Hill finish. Aussies dominate the GC with 1 min. spread across the top dozen riders.

Great stage, just watched off tape. I particulary liked the Belgian Lotto rider giving Jack Bobridge a hand sling when he was going for the KoM. Watch out for that favour being repaid sometime down the line.

Unofficial result is JB missed the record by a couple of laps.

Complete lack of data on-screen. The UCI need to instigate some standards on coverage format for future attempts.

@xavierdisley made a graph that compares the pace of Bobridge to that of Voigt and Brändle.

He essentially started at something close to individual pursuit pace (he broke Boardman's 'Superman' WR four years ago) and tried to hang on for dear life. One less target for Rohan Dennis et al to worry about.

---

Pauline Ferrand-Prévot has done a Vos - she has become a simultaneous cyclo-cross/road race World Champion, having pipped World Cup winner Sanne Cant in a sprint finish. Despite injury (which perhaps caused the end of her 6-title streak), Marianne Vos still made it to the podium.

The KOM in the TDU would have cost him endurance strength but regardless it seems an over ambitious opening pace.

After 60 laps, he was 26 seconds up on a flat record pace and fading fast. Apart from a few very brief surges, JB was below record pace from then on to lap 207. He finished 37 or so seconds down.

Obree is advising JB to follow his example and attempt the record again in a few days - with new pace tactics: http://cyclingtips.com.au/2015/02/ob...-or-five-days/

Live Women's CX Worlds on the YT UCI channel were geo-blocked so ES can show highlights at nine tonight. Apparently worth watching (though we know the result) as it was a closely fought battle.

Just started: Live Men's CX Championships is not geo-blocked on YT:

It will struggle to beat the quality of yesterday's racing.

Cheers.......I'd have missed that as I thought ES had lost the rights to the early season 'desert races'........

Just checking it ........this looks like the 2nd edition as the race started last year and it's part of the 'Asia' Tour

It's been upgraded this year to a higher category

I see that Andy Fenn is on the startlist for Sky........I don't recall them signing him from OPQS, but I'm pleased as I like to see the British riders in Team Sky

Sky confirm new signings right at the end of the season when few are reporting or scanning the cycling news.
