Big crowd turned out in Whitby !
Looks a bit unusual when you're used to watching races on the continent where people only seem to turn out on the mountains...... |

I'm watching Romandie where it's very, very wet. The break is slowly being reeled back in. Not a lot else happening. Tomorrow is a MTF and it looks as though the GC guys will wait until then to do anything much. Today could be an interesting finish though, given the conditions.

David Millar literally says literally every other sentence and does not know what the word means.

Group of 5 have broken away in Yorkshire.......Tommy Voeckler, Sammy Sanchez and two of the Sky riders, presumably now free from domestique duties. Didn't catch the other one
Group of about 10 chasing around 50 seconds back Ha.........didn't realise Kittel has abandoned early on. What a softie !.....

I expect most of the crowd had only heard of Bradley Wiggins and to a leser extent Ben Swift before today. Bradley Swift isn't going to win and Ben Swift is out. No British riders in the top 5.
The event seems to be aimed at people who don't know anything about cycling, and who basically will turn up to any event if it is hyped up enough. We have it for a decade. I don't think the crowds will be as large in the tenth year. A good recovering win from Sky. It was quite an exciting stage. |

Great stage in the TdY, I thought. When you think of the number of those one week races we watch where nothing at all happens for 60k and then a bit of a rush in the last 10k this was all action all the way. Great crowds again.

Good start for our cycling day, Mark Cavendish gets his most comfortable win of the three in the Tour of Turkey - he and his team had been attacked on the final climb, but they managed to get back to the leaders well before the sprint, and then it was like clockwork.

Alex Dowsett is about to start his hour record attempt in Manchester. Surprisingly sparse attendance at the moment, though it should improve later.
I'm reckon he'll ride a low/mid-52, either way he will probably be close to the mark set by Dennis a few months back. He has a slight disadvantage in terms of altitude. |

Someone is tweeting from Dowsett's account. Movistar are issuing more sensible schedule updates: https://twitter.com/Movistar_Team

Dowsett has broken it!
![]() New record is 52.937km/h - almost half a kilometre quicker! That is impressive. |

Great job, and now onto part 3 of our trilogy....they're expecting a more conventional bunch sprint. The fact that it finishes as a circuit race should favour the British teams, city centre criterium races are their bread and butter.

Brilliant win by Cav !
I think they had underestimated the last climb and it was tougher than they thought........the peloton split and Cav was dropped by about a minute with 25K to go The teams in the front bunch were putting the pressure on to try and keep the second bunch at bay but they gradually whittled their way back and merged the groups with about 10K to go Despite using all that energy to get back Cav's team still managed to get up the front and give him a lead out and he won doing handsprings by about 4 or 5 lengths Well done to Alex Dowsett.......Radio 5 gave the wrong start time so it had just finished when I flicked over...... ![]() Not that it would have been very exciting watching apart from the last couple of minutes.......

Could be a few strange names involved if it's a bunch sprint in York with none of the top sprinters there
I see Erik's lad, Rick Zabel, is riding for BMC......I might pick him just for the old time's sake.....Erik Zabel was probably the number one sprinter around when I started watching the sport in the mid 90s |

Ned Boulting fails his commentators final exams, messes up the bunch sprint, back to the sticking microphones in the winners' faces, then.

Couple of upsets today in the anticipated results :
Mas Bonet in stealing the win from the sprinters in the tight cornered last 1.5km in Turkey. A well timed Caja Rural attack left EPS struggling to recover. Cavendish released by his final rider with 500m to go with far too much distance to make up. Mas Bonet looked surprised and thrilled at pulling off the stage win. Froome 1kph slower than Tony Martin in the short final TT in Romandie to concede the overall to Katusha's Zakarin. Surprising, unfamiliar winner given the attendance of this year's TdF contenders. |

Under way in Yorkshire. A breakaway group fighting out the KoM points, and the main group preparing for the overall showdown.
