Over his whole career it's been foolish to underestimate Wiggo !
He must be one of the most determined and dedicated sportsmen ever I suspect he knows from the trial runs that he should break the record if it goes smoothly I think he'll do it......

Some riders in the Dauphiné are trialling a new type of ID transponder. If it works it will give real-time tracking in big races.
The two guys now in the break on TV have them: the little black boxes extending down the under their saddles. |

I think the Hour Record attempt will be shown here live....it's working for the build-up anyway.

Wiggo won't break 54km if he keeps on riding that far from the black line. In that respect, Dowsett's ride (52.937km) was better.

Amazing job so far. Shame the barometric pressure is unusually high for London.

Confirmed as 54.526km - not only in high pressure conditions, but with relatively poor black line discipline!

Even bearing in mind the unfavourable barometric conditions, I'd say Brad's put the record on the shelf for quite a while. I'd be surprised if Tony Martin or Cancellara could beat that even in favourable conditions.

I'm not sure the record is beyond Martin's reach with favourable atmospheric pressure, even at sea-level - and who knows where the likes of Malori/Dennis/Dowsett et al will be in a few years.
B Xavier Disley delivers again. |

ITV also has live coverage and highlights on the Dauphine this week.
I'll be catching the 7pm highlights probably at 8pm on +1. |

Faster track, lower air pressure and cooler temperatures make 55km do-able on today's form. Will he be tempted for just one more try in a few weeks?Armitstead takes the lead in the women's World Cup in Philly. Final hill and kilometre from around 2:57:00: http://live.phillybikerace.com/ |

I'll be catching the 7pm highlights probably at 8pm on +1. Becoming more and more impressed with Ned and David Millar's commentary. Were good today, and David added a lot. Race is shaping up nicely for the mountains. Here's hoping Chris Froome doesn't fall off again like last year. |
