Over his whole career it's been foolish to underestimate Wiggo !

He must be one of the most determined and dedicated sportsmen ever

I suspect he knows from the trial runs that he should break the record if it goes smoothly

I think he'll do it......

Some riders in the Dauphiné are trialling a new type of ID transponder. If it works it will give real-time tracking in big races.

The two guys now in the break on TV have them: the little black boxes extending down the under their saddles.

there doesn't appear to have been any live coverage today

I guess cmq is watching recorded highlights on Eurosport

I didn't even know the race was on today so I've missed it.......I'll catch today's highlights before the live coverage of tomorrow's stage

It was live on ES international but, because of the more popular tennis and superbike, coverage was delayed on British Eurosport. The remainder of the stages are live on BES with evening highlights. ITV4 are also showing highlights.

I think the Hour Record attempt will be shown here live....it's working for the build-up anyway.

Also being shown on the Pick Channel on Freeview and Freesat.

Winner of today's Dauphine stage:
Spoiler
Was Peter Kennaugh, denying the sprinters and doing the British champion's jersey proud.

I know. Weird.....

Wiggo won't break 54km if he keeps on riding that far from the black line. In that respect, Dowsett's ride (52.937km) was better.

Amazing job so far. Shame the barometric pressure is unusually high for London.

Staying around 54.6km 48 minutes in, but now starting to bite.

It's going to be about 54.5km!

Settled into Shane Sutton's prediction range of 54.50-54.55km

54.52 km......

Well done Brad...........

Confirmed as 54.526km - not only in high pressure conditions, but with relatively poor black line discipline!

So what'll I do now? I know, how about a wee bit of cycling?

I feel a turbo training session coming on.....

Even bearing in mind the unfavourable barometric conditions, I'd say Brad's put the record on the shelf for quite a while. I'd be surprised if Tony Martin or Cancellara could beat that even in favourable conditions.

I'm not sure the record is beyond Martin's reach with favourable atmospheric pressure, even at sea-level - and who knows where the likes of Malori/Dennis/Dowsett et al will be in a few years.

B Xavier Disley delivers again.

ITV also has live coverage and highlights on the Dauphine this week.

I'll be catching the 7pm highlights probably at 8pm on +1.

Faster track, lower air pressure and cooler temperatures make 55km do-able on today's form. Will he be tempted for just one more try in a few weeks?

Armitstead takes the lead in the women's World Cup in Philly. Final hill and kilometre from around 2:57:00: http://live.phillybikerace.com/

The only way I could see it being worth his while to have another go at the Hour would be if he only did it in absolutely favourable conditions. He'd have to set aside a window of time to do it and then only make an attempt at exactly the right point. He'd need to book out a week or so at a suitable velodrome.

Becoming more and more impressed with Ned and David Millar's commentary. Were good today, and David added a lot. Race is shaping up nicely for the mountains. Here's hoping Chris Froome doesn't fall off again like last year.
