Apparently Nibali is blaming Froome for the crash on twitter, love to know how he came to that conclusion, looked like Martin clipped the wheel in front of him to me.
Very odd, from what I could see on the overhead shot Martin clips a wheel, falls right into someone who falls into Nibali who falls nearly taking Froome out too.

can't see how anyone could blame Froome

Nibali was having a go at Froome at the end of the race and Froome charged onto the Astana bus to have it out with Nibali who apparently apologised
Eurosport later showed Froome getting on the Astana bus bet little Nibali couldn't believe it LOL

Good points. Sagan has way more talent than Wiggins who wouldn't have stood a cat in hell's chance of winning without Froome wet nursing him up the mountains. if a future Tour has a similar profile to that of 2012 then, as you say, I don't think it would need radical changes for Sagan to be a serious GC contender.
Apart from Wiggins being a better climber and a much better timetrialler.

Hurrah for Cav !.......

I get the feeling that he's not aiming for the green jersey these days and just wants a couple of stage wins if he can get them

He doesn't seem bothered much with the intermediate sprints and doesn't appear to go all out for points at the finish once his chance has gone

Huge well done Cav a couple more to pass Bernard Hinault's 2nd place of stage wins
pretty epic for a sprinter to win all those stages

Maybe Cavendish will be better served without a train.

Cav was very impressive. Won by nearly a bike length.

Watched Greg lemond slaying the badger the, other night, and in many ways it reminded me of sky not letting froome have a go in 2012.

It works in lots of races, but maybe the TdF is so strong now that you have to find another set of tactics.

I presume a train only works if the lead out are nearly as good as the final sprinter. Otherwise the train can't keep him in position.

To me it seems more like a Kierin, where it's about placing yourself in the right position.

Yesterday's finish was quite technical though wasn't it. Narrow, twisty and uphill.

.
With Cav's classic wins, like Paris in 2012, the Sky train worked because it laid down such a massive speed that no-one else could keep pace with it, so when the final lead-out man peeled off Cav was already a few lengths ahead of his nearest competitor. I don't think any team has that kind of crushing dominance anymore, so they have to find other tactics.

Not quite the same in that Lemond was better both in the mountains and against the watch. No one was slowing Froome down when he lost 2 minutes to Wiggins in the time trials. Add in the 90 secs he lost to a puncture and I doubt he would have won anyway. Anyway, reining yourself in to help the team leader when you are potentially stronger is not exactly unusual - Delgado/Indurain, Riis/Ulrich etc. More unusual is whinging about it.

To be fair it was mostly the girlfriend who was whining about it....but he did the right thing. Sky have shown over the years that they are willing to reward loyalty, even if you are not quite up to it, like Richie Porte.

Seems a bit odd to have a team time trial tomorrow so late into the race

There had to be a possibility that a really unlucky team might not have 5 riders left.............

Indeed. What would have happened then?

Take the time from the team's last man, I suppose.

Can I just say that whoever created those Alpecin adverts deserves to be dragged out into the street and shot.

I quite like that one with Kittel......

but in general all adverts that are dubbed from German or whatever into English, like car adverts, seem faintly ridiculous to our ears........I think they have a very different style of 'advert language'!

Catching up on the Welsh language commentary on S4C - it's like being on holiday! I'm picking up quite a bit of Welsh already. "Stage win", "Rest day", "Peleton" . And people say it's difficult. Easier to understand than Sean Kelly, on the whole.
