He wanted a rest after the Giro and European Games ITT.

Unless he (somehow) doesn't finish tomorrow's stage, Sébastien Chavanel will be this Tour's lanterne rouge.

The fans should be banned from the roadside to stop this sort of thing.

All fans? The only thing you could possibly do is put barriers up but they would still be able to get close to the riders as they don't tend to ride in the middle of the road.

Reminder that both ITV4 and ES are showing the women's race around the Champs Elysees circuit which precedes the arrival of the Tour - TV start at 1.00pm

This is the second year of the race, named La Course.......it looks like its going to become a regular feature

Marianne Vos won it last year but I think she's still out injured at the moment

Some Brits involved - Lizzie Armitstead, Amy Roberts, Lucy Garner, Hannah Barnes, Lucy Martin, Melissa Lowther and Helen Wyman.......must say I haven't heard of the last 3 but they all ride for the same team, Matrix Fitness.

I really hope froome gets a good reception in Paris.

In Paris, there has been police gunfire as a car attempted to breech the vehicle/crowd barriers .

Reportedly not terror or anti-Sky related. Seems like a disgruntled motorist unhappy with the mass closure of roads many hours before the event takes place.

Might be because the Place Charles de Gaulle (perhaps the most critical road junction in Paris) seems to have become a permanent feature of the world's most prestigious criterium.

When it was added to the 100th Tour, I got the impression it was a one-off. Apparently the powers that be deem it popular enough to warrant additional disruption to traffic in future Tours (which was already significant to begin with).

It is the biggest event in cycling, after all...

Looking very dodgy in Paris, pouring rain and slippery cobbles for the women's race, peleton already broken up by crashes. Watch out Chris!

Rain in Paris.......the circuit is like a skating rink !

girls have 60 odd K to go

both channels have different commentary teams for this which I guess is fair enough..........

they're going right round the Arc de Triomphe again which takes out that 360 degree (?) sharp turn which used to happen in front of the 'Arc'
Edward_Sloley

After a 360 degree turn they'd end up riding in the same direction.

This is the first time it's rained on the final day since I started watching it in 2009.

Anna van der Breggen has pulled off a Vino! What a ride!

-----

Haha, nice weather joke by Ashley House to start LeMond on Tour.

-----

What a great month it's been for AvdB - she won the Giro Rosa as well. Can't think of anyone else who has won a Grand Tour and a (properly raced) prestigious crit in the same month!!

Final stage now underway.

My prediction - Greipel will cap his best ever TdF with a win today; Sagan to claim another second place finish. Though he hasn't shown much this tour, Kristoff is a dark horse in these wet conditions.

Aha! The whole race is effectively neutralised now - the final time will be taken on the first passage through the Champs, so no danger of losing in a crash.

Bardet must be gutted to lose his KotM lead yesterday, especially since he has to nurse the maillot à pois rouges for Froome (Quintana is also ahead of him). He does win the overall combativity award, though.

I was a tad confused with this because Sean said earlier that even if the time is taken before the circuits you still have to finish the whole race to win the jersey

So presumably it could happen that Froome crashes on the circuit and doesn't complete the race

What would happen then ?

Could Froome just climb off after the 41K point ?

it's not clear to me !

Boardman said the race distance must be completed. Any rider crashing out completely before the line is a DNF.

that seems to be the same as what Sean said........but it's not what Carlton said !

Carlton said Froome would win the TdF as soon as they pass the 41K point

I think Sean and Chris B are probably more reliable......

Kelly & Boardman are correct.

Cavendish has a meeting later today with team boss Lefevre about contract renewal. Today's sprint position will influence the amount on offer. Much less than last time round for sure.

At this rate, 15mph, it will take another hour to get to the circuit. They need to speed up to keep themselves warm.

Chris Froome draughting behind a car there - 1m30s time penalty!

Greipel wins a rather messy sprint, a wheel ahead of a fast finishing Coquard, of all people! The Germans have domainted the sprints in the last 3 Tours.

Kristoff third after going for a long-range sprint, Cav down in sixth.

Froome crosses the line with all his domestiques on either side of him, like they did in 2013.

I had talksport radio on at the same time........and their on site reporter said that Pierre Rollond got 2nd in the sprint.......

Great tour and success for Chris Froome.

Guess it was fitting Greipel won the last sprint.

He's won 5 Grand Tour stages this year, which is a very good haul (possibly his best ever). He is arguably somewhat underrated at times, given Cav's past achievements.

Speaking of Cav, his future with EQS might be a bit shaky (after having won 'just' a single TdF stage).

-----

Gotta say that podium backdrop is quite sublime.

Just heard that the top-5 in GC have all won a Grand Tour before (an unprecedented achievement) - I had no idea that Valverde won the 2009 Vuelta.

An interesting comparison - in the 2015 Tour, an Anglophone wins and two Hispanophones make the podium (third place in the Spanish champion's jersey); in the 2011 Vuelta, a Hispanohpone wins and two Anglophones make the podium (third place in the British champion's jersey).

-----

Ummm, why is George Osborne on the podium?
