Geraint Thomas out of the World Champs due to generally feeling knackered.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/wales/34251084

Guess he just feels there is no chance of doing well so doesn't want to waste a space.

Circuit races around a city are the way to go. So you don't just see them all wizz past and it's the last you see of 'em....outside of running inside and putting the tv on

Atmosphere is ace. At the Glasgow Commonwealth thing last year it was mental. All the pubs along the route had people running in and out each time they were about to pass

Coverage of the Wallonie Tour underway

90K to go and a small breakaway has got under 2 minutes

It's raining and looks like it's going to be a hard day in the saddle with 7 climbs including an uphill finish to the Citadel at Namur

lots of crashes on the slippy roads.......particularly on the descents

the roads have ditches along the sides and riders are ending up in there, probably lying in a foot of water and mud

not nice........in fact it's beginning to look quite dangerous

The Beeb is showing some of the World Championships live

Men's and Women Elite individual time trials and road races are on the red button

here's the BBC guide to the events.....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/34270493

Seems like the BBC is covering the events that it's showing in full.......from start to finish. That could be handy because I suspect that Eurosport are not going to devote 7 or 8 hours to the Mens road race on a Sunday......they'll probably dip in and out as they have in the past

Cav definitely out. British team is now

Ian Stannard, Adam Yates, Ben Swift, Stephen Cummings, Andy Fenn, Luke Rowe, Scott Thwaites, Alex Dowsett.

Who will fill the 9th spot - one of the other two Orica Brits, or someone else?

Cav's season has been one of two halves - 13 wins upon riding the ToC; nothing but a solitary TdF stage since then. We don't even know if he'll be in a WT squad next year, as he has been since 2007.

Those two climbs in the final 3K look fairly steep even though they're not long.......and one of them is cobbled

I think Cav might have struggled on that finish.........it looks more like a finish for Gilbert, Sagan or someone like that

Maybe Ben Swift could have the best chance of the Brits or even Adam Yates or Steve Cummings

Obviously we'll have a better idea once they've done a circuit !

Beppu of Trek Factory has posted his preview ride of the Richmond course on Strava: http://www.strava.com/activities/392072243

The hills are do not rise far: 39, 27 & 47m in succession. The analysis section shows the momentum from the descents carry a rider part way up the next two rises effectively making them shorter.

Three Sky riders crashed heavily in TTT recon ride today: https://twitter.com/TheDPate/status/645294262603657217

Team Time Trials tonight which are done by Pro teams rather than national teams like all the other events

I suppose you couldn't really have national team time trials although I'm sure they used to have them in the Olympics.........would be pretty difficult to organise with riders who are not used to each other tho' the bigger countries might base it around the team pursuit squad from the track

Also how many riders would you have in a team?.......they'd probably go for 5 just to give smaller countries a chance.

Good to see the sport has put its dark past behind it with team's like 'Vino4ever' and 'Hincapie'. When I were a lad we used to do this to win races...

I see that Sky have Viviani in the team

Is that a good idea........having a sprinter in the TTT team ?

or is it just a case of not being that interested in the event and just putting out whoever happens to be there for the main events ?

I notice that a few World Tour teams haven't bothered turning up

Tinkoff crash.........I think they only had 3 upright riders so they'll have to wait for one of the crashers to catch up

Lotto take the lead

The World Tour teams had to compete, it's the 2nd division teams that had the choice.

Yeah, they are way off the actual splits. Etixx take the lead, only BMC can beat them.

........and BMC win !

well done to them, they won it last year as well

The home crowd will appreciate that - a win for one of their teams, and over a year after that nasty crash, Phinney gets to stand on the top step of a WCh elite podium for the first time!

BMC and EQS have won medals in all men's TTT since the current format was introduced in 2012; OGE surprisingly didn't make the podium as Movistar claimed a medal for the first time. Although their medals don't contribute to the GB medal tally, it's good to see Dowsett and Armitstead making the podium today.

The national teams will take on the ITT over the next few days, starting with the junior women and U23 men tomorrow. Will Mullen claim the title that Flakemore pipped him to last year?
