Men's omnium getting underway now, starting with the scratch race - can Elia Viviani retain his title?

Dibben did quite well to finish 5th........Viviani was back in 9th I think

Both GB men qualify for the sprint quarter-finals via the repechage

On the women's side Marchant through to the quarters but Varnish out

Looks like Marchant is emerging from amongst the GB girls as the successor to Vicky P

Just got through catching up with this morning's action. Katy Marchant was the only Brit that really impressed in the sprints, for a recent convert she knows the business. John Dibben should be challenging in the Omnium over the next couple of days, all the criterium races he did over the summer should help him in the elimination race.

GOLD!!! For Laura Trott in the scratch race. Selfish Russian b***h in the breakaway trio refused to take her turn with two laps to go, let the pack catch them up again.

Yeah Trotty !........she's a star !

Sprinters let us down again........none of them got to the last 4

Obviously we've been spoiled for the last few years and it's not proving so easy to carry on winning......

And he gets caught daydreaming during the elimination race, big points penalty.

Good article here about the history of six-day racing and about the London event next week

Stefan Küng does the stripes proud and thrills the home crowd with a 4:15.678 clocking in the qualifying round of the individual pursuit. That is a fast time.

And he wins the European title in 4:14.992, putting him (AFAIK) above Wiggo in the all-time list! Still over 4 seconds behind Jack Bobridge's freakish WR of 4:10.534, but a cracking run nonetheless.

Bronze for Chris Lathem in the stand-alone elimination race. Gold for Brian Coquard, a well known road rider.

And as (almost) always, Laura Trott wins the omnium elimination, leads after the first day.

And another bronze for Jonathan Dibben in the men's omnium - heroic performance in the points race, made up a couple of laps on the field. Gold to Elia Viviani, whom we all know,

He pipped Lasse Norman Hansen (Olympic champion) to the omnium title in the very last points race sprint (!) - since they're equal on points, the deciding factor was the position in said sprint.

WR in the women's 500m time trial! Russia's Anastasia Voinova smashes Anne Meares' record set at altitude in Mexico.

Anastasiia Voinova has broken Anna Meares' half-kilo WR!!

For 32.836, read 32.794!

Hah, you beat me to it.

-----

By herself, Voinova would have been the third fastest qualifier in the team sprint. Good god.

Hansen was very ticked off with his coach, obviously had not been telling him the danger.

Voinova certainly did the stripes proud - well, she would have if she was wearing a rainbow skinsuit, as is her right as world champion.

Couldn't help but chuckle at what Grenchen 2015 tweeted...
Quote:
“What the **** was that? 0.767 seconds faster that Ligtlee and she sets a new world record !”

Jeffrey Hoogland currently leads the the kilo with a quick 1:00.350. At one point it looked like he might break the minute barrier, which is bloody fast unless you're riding with considerable altitude assistance.

And he holds on for the win. The Dutch sprinters have certainly found some form in the past couple of years.

Good morning for Team GB. Laura Trott took second in the 500m TT in the omnium, so extends her lead over the field. Kate Archibald qualified easily first in the Pursuit, will race for gold this evening. Ciara Horne will race for bronze. Our sprinters continued to underwhelm in the keirin though.

.......and Trotty wins the Flying Lap

Just the points race to come now but hat does seem t be a bit of a lottery with a lot of points at stake towards the Omnium total

I'm not that fussed about watching Madisons.

Yeah, but fairly easy to defend if you have a big lead, she only has to watch two of three people really.

No Brits in either of the keirin medal finals - it has been a terrible comp for the sprinters; besides Marchant, they've hardly done anything of note. Whether or not they somehow manage to sneak a medal or two in Rio remains to be seen, but as a whole they're in the doldrums.

That said, the spread of medals between track cycling nations in Rio will be more even, which can only be good for track cycling as a whole, much as we'd like a repeat of the (quite frankly) extraordinary hauls in Beijing and London.

Archibald also looks set to retain her IP title.

18-10-2015
Yeah, the sprinters' situation is a bit of a case of "sack the board", I reckon. When Chris Hoy was there he dragged lots of other riders to big medals but it looks like they have all slackened off.

Bronze for Ciara Horne in the IP!

And GOLD!!! for Katy Archibald. Think this means that she is the only person who has ever won this competition.

Tell you what, somebody needs to be asking Elis Ligtlee's mother if she ever spent any time with Chris Hoy about 20 years ago, because there are starting to be some very remarkable resemblences.....

GOLD!!! for Trotty! 3 golds for the week, finishes third on the medals table if she was a country.

Great stuff from Laura......she's a machine

Don't know what we're going to do with the sprinters.........I guess we were spoiled with Chris Hoy and Vicky P........realistically it would be very unlikely that we'd find another two within a few years.

There is still Rebecca James who was double world champ in 2013, but long series of injuries since. Seemingly she is going to be back soon.

And a third GOLD!!! for Katie Archibald! Think this takes us to the top of the overall medals table, although the Dutch probably win the Olympic events only one.
