Video of the Rio Olympic RR course showing Team Tinkov recce. Looks as tough as some testers have suggested. Steep climbs on the two loops and exposed coast road between them. After riding it, Sagan reckons it is a for a climber not a strong rider like him. https://youtu.be/e_PhJMO9yUA

Start list for the Dubai Tour, the first ES mini tour of the season starting Wednesday. Heavy Brit attendance mainly due to the inclusion of Team Wiggins. http://www.procyclingstats.com/race.php?id=164102&c=3

Cavendish in new team colours and presumably riding a Cervélo after many seasons on a Specialized Venge. Kittel also starting in the new blue and black EPS kit, hoping for a more productive season than last.

The UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships are taking place in Belgium this weekend. For anyone who likes the varied designs of ceremonial rainbow jerseys, there's some big news:
Spoiler
The classic stripes-only jersey, previously reserved for the road race will once more be given to all UCI world champions, regardless of discipline. That means no more stopwatch, tread marks, etc (see pages 38-45 for the old designs)

Oh, and here's Lizzie looking resplendent in hers.

Worth mentioning that GB's best medal prospect will be Nicki Harris in the Elite Women's Race, Saturday 13:50. She has already has a World Cup win this year, will be riding with Lizzie in Boels Dolmans this summer.

Or so we thought...
Spoiler
...since Evie Richards, the silver medallist in last year's junior women's cross-country race, has only gone and won the first-ever U23 women's cyclo-cross race!! Apparently she is the first Brit to win a cyclo-cross rainbow jersey since Roger Hammond won the junior men's race in 1992!

C'mon Nikki, attacking off the front now! Conditions appalling, or perfect.

Couldn't make the attack stick, finishes 5th in the end. So tough. Seemingly she is the only person to represent GB at a World Champs in all 4 disciplines.

Yeah, I watch a lot of bits and pieces online and you often cannot tell the difference from the regular TV.

The elite women's title went to Thalita de Jong (NED). That makes it 3 riders / 8 titles in succession for the mighty Rabo-Liv.

World Cup winner and today's bronze medallist Sanne Cant (BEL) looked mightily distraught.

Which other WCh disciplines has she done besides cyclo-cross?

For the record, that's her third top-5 finish in a row.

She's never been particularly great except in cyclo cross, but she has done road, track and mountain at some point - she's in her late 20s.

Bike used in this morning's under-23s women's race detained by UCI in Zoldar under suspicion of technological fraud: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/...onships-209465

Great racing this afternoon and good quality coverage.

Sporza are reporting wires found when the seat post was removed. The BB could not be dismantled - something in seat tube was retaining it.

The bike was an unused spare. Father of competitor says it was someone else's bike.

It has been a good weekend for the Brits Down Under - King finished third in the women's Great Ocean Road Race (won by Aussie champ Amanda Spratt), then British champ Peter Kennaugh won the men's.

There's an interesting article by Wiggle High5 manager Rochelle Gilmore about how the late decision to grant 2 Australian races UCI classification had an impact on her team's prep for the season.

Very nice win for Peter Kennaugh, got away from the pack over the top of a climb with 10k to go, managed to hold off the group of big names for a solo win.

Adam Toupalik (CZE) looked set to win the U23 men's title...until he celebrated a lap too early for the best of 20 seconds, within hearing distance of the bell(!); see video 53 minutes in.

The UCI has awarded the 2018 road and cyclo-cross WCh to Innsbruck and Valkenburg respectively. There is no still no host for this year's Juniors Track WCh.

And as it happens, the UCI will have it in their World Cycling Centre in Aigle.

Been a good 24 hours for Team Sky, Peter Kennaugh wins stage 1 of the Herald Sun Tour in Australia, with Chris Froome in second, Wout Poels wins the opening TT of the Volta a Valencia with Vaska Kiriyenko third, each with plenty of chances for the overall.

You can add Elia Viviani to that as he won stage 2 of the Dubai Tour.

Forgot to add that Kittel started his season with victory in Dubai yesterday, so his first pro win of the season came much earlier than in 2015.

Third place in today's HST stage went to Dion Smith (NZL), who rides for OPC; that means British teams were in the top three for a particular stage, which must be a rare occurence.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of activity in January and February these days, races all over the place

the season really is stretching out

In the olden days there was hardly anything before March........the first televised action used to be Paris-Nice around the second week of March
