Cock Ups all round at the finish in Valencia

Firstly the on screen ticker was about 5K out.........so was still showing 6K to go as they approached the Flamme Rouge.........Carlton was on top of that

But he totally failed to notice the guy who was out front on his own taking the wrong course and having to double back and join in half way down the peloton

Comedy gold from Carlton really - he assumed that just because he and Matt were confused so the riders must have been confused as well.

Bernie Eisel broke a collar bone in a feed zone accident in Dubai yesterday........

Big dollop of live action just started with 60-odd K to go.........it's moved to ES2

Peter Kennaugh still leads in the Herald Sun Tour, final stage with a hilltop finish tomorrow. Froome at 13", Jack Bobridge at 31", so Sky must be feeling good about their chances.

Kittel looks indomitable. The question is whether his high power sprinting takes too much out of him to be sustainable over the season. Cavendish's face today said it all.

Dimension Data taking Cavendish direct to Qatar. EQS and Sky not attending: http://www.procyclingstats.com/race.php?id=164108&c=3

The Qatar Stage 3 ITT is all of 11 km long. Flat straight course with five roundabout turns between shooting club and motocycle race circuit. Looks like gripping stuff https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@25.47...!3m1!1e3?hl=en

Amusing tweet by Froome: https://twitter.com/chrisfroome/stat...00131665833984

Froome took it all on the last day of the HST, and Poels sealed the overall in Valencia - all happening today; in the past 8 days, Sky have claimed 8 victories. That's quite the spell.

Most of the men's track endurance squad will now taper for London, and Cav will join them after the upcoming Tour of Qatar (without Kittel).

Amazing incident for the stage win today in Valencia - won't say any more until you get a chance to see it!

Sporza suggest Kittel's EQS's non-appearance is due to problems with discipline and politeness. Run link through Google Translate

As expected in the first ToQ stage, Cav gets off the mark as Dimension Data claim their first victory as a WT squad. Average speed was apparently 51.867km/h and crosswinds split the peloton.

Regarding the women's Olympic road berths, the UCI have published a qualification ranking; at the moment, GB are eighth (which would be worth three RR berths and an ITT berth).

I thought they might get a ban this time after being let off last time

Tom Boonen back in 2009 issued legal proceedings against the Tour when they tried to stop him starting after testing positive for cocaine for the third time. He was allowed to start because it was a 'recreational' drug not PED.

For this, and because Paolini promptly retired and issued an mea culpa on personal sleeping pills and cocaine abuse, the thinking is making Katusha take the hit for two positives would not have stood up in court. The team doctor also acted positively by highlighting his concerns rather than dismissing the issue: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/katu...n-the-peloton/

I recall there was a view at the time of Boonen's offences, that cocaine was potentially useful to counter-act the downer from coming off steroids and other PEDs. In Paolini's case, 'recreational' may not be the completely correct term as it seemed to be tied in with the fatigue from a physically exhausting pro-cycling career.

I'm gutted for EBH. He took nearly 2.5secs/km out of his nearest competitor, and 4sec/km out of then leader Cavendish, in the prologue length ITT yesterday to take the gold jersey. Guaranteed the Qatar win with 25 seconds lead (huge in this type of race) but for an extremely unlucky turn of events in the final kilometres: https://youtu.be/E4AC3iA7d44?t=2m5s

Kristoff had most of his Katusha team to lead him out from a depleted front group of a dozen or so. Only nine seconds separate the top four going into the final stage tomorrow.

As he does not have a dedicated lead out train at DDD, Cavendish's former DS and mentor is suggesting he tries for a classics win (Paris-Roubaix) . Given the number of younger sprinters with lead-outs, he believes sprinting success may be difficult to achieve this season: http://www.cyclingquotes.com/news/ho...0F4Ffxd0Goq.97

Froome is putting the Tour ahead of the Olympics which I guess you can understand as he and Team Sky can control the former much more so than the latter which is a bit of a lottery with countries coming together - as we saw in 2012 when "Team GB" were caught out..

Kristoff wins the final stage in Qatar (after pipping Cav again) to make it three out of four stage-ending sprints. Cav did enough to claim overall honours (the ITT underpinned it for Dimension Data despite EBH's double puncture).

British Cycling have named their squad for next month's Track WCh in the Lee Valley VeloPark; 6 of the riders won Olympic titles in this very venue (plus Wiggo on the streets of Greater London / Surrey).

Regarding specific WCh disciplines, it is confirmed that Cav has been selected for the madison with Wiggo (which they won in 2008), as well as the omnium. Clancy and Archibald have also made the squad despite significant injuries earlier in the season.

Is there any television coverage of the Volta ao Algarve starting tomorrow?

Can't see any.........this is a handy site for live coverage of cycling events and I think where streaming is available they usually have a link

http://www.cyclingfans.com/live_race_coverage

However Eurosport are showing live coverage of the Tour of Andalucia starting today which I think is the first time they've shown the race. Following on from the Tour of Valencia I'm wondering if they're now going to show all the main Spanish regional races.

Looks a good race with lots of mountains and some historic places like Seville and Cordoba. Froome won it last year but he's not in the Sky team this time, they appear to be going with Kiryienka as team leader

Not many Brits riding - we've got Ben Swift for Sky and Hugh Carthy for the Spanish second division team Caja Rural

Valverde probably favourite if he's race fit

As often happens though with Eurosport these days we only appear to be getting it 'live' on weekdays so up to Friday, then nothing for the final 2 stages........you might have to hunt around for recorded highlights and cross fingers that they actually show them

Couple of decent results for the Brits in Iberia today.........in the Algarve Geraint Thomas finished 2nd and in Andalucia Ben Swift finished 3rd

Maybe famous last words, but I struggle to see how Cav and Wiggins can win the Madison.

They may well the best by a mile, but the rest of them surely wont let them get a lap.

sorry if this has already been debated.

Well........it can get pretty tactical

you could see a situation where Brad goes off the front and the rest of them wait for someone else to chase him !

Too late.......

Commentators reporting a bubbling under controversy in Andalucia with a rider taking to Twitter to complain that Bouhani was pushed up the final climb by team-mates before winning the sprint finish

let's see if anything develops.......

If you fancy watching a bit of cycling today the final stage of Andalucia is on ES from 3.45........it doesn't appear to be live but there's a good slab of time allocated in the schedule so it's not just half an hour...........and let's face it they're not going to be spoiling it be putting out the result on 5 Live.......

The race has been designed so that the result isn't known until the end of todays stage with the only mountain top finish today..........lots of riders in contention right down the field, so should be an exciting finish

Sad news. Former Eurosport cycling commentator David Duffield died this morning. In the nineties, he was the voice of cycling for many of us. A true enthusiast of the sport who took on many roles throughout his life.

That is indeed sad. He was really my education in cycling, the first time I ever really got to see the whole thing live, rather than the recorded highlights on C4. The first race he did that I ever saw was the famous Criterium International in I think March or April 1998, when the horse jumped the fence and joined in.
