If my memory is correct didn't cycling used to be on Channel 4?

The coverage was very good anyway, however, yesterday what I saw wasn't great and if this is the best ITV can do perhaps better if the BBC get involved?

Still no pictures at 15.20 lots of ads though!!

Well looking at flight radar they are almost on top of each other, so assume they should be linked up now.

And they are live

Yeah. I'm only in Osset. I'll hop on a bus and knock on your door.

Romandie is on the Bike Channel with 23km to go. Van Garderen and Froome had 40 seconds at the top of the penultimate climb. Steep descent and back up the same climb again. Froome is nowhere on GC but will want to show form. Van Garderen is top ten.

AT LAST!!! Here we go, 89k to go, so pretty much normal. Amazing that those of us who watch cycling week in week out never see so much public enthusiasm for races* in the continental homelands of cycling as we get in Britain.

*Belgium excluded, mostly.

I believe that the whole race package is actually being produced by French TV subcontracted from the ASO, who present the Tour de France. Certainly all the captions are in French. All ITV produce is the chat from Gary + Chris.

Well that didn't last long! Honestly, why doesn't this forum include a facepalm emoji? Plenty of excuses for them this past week or so...

I am surprised they don't plan for problems like this to ensure there are alternative ways to cover the race, even though that may mean poorer quality coverage. It would be better than no coverage at all.

I hope the broadcasters hold back a proportionate amount of the money they have paid to broadcast this.

Seems the ASO have to hold their head in shame if they are responsible.

Ah well at least that's something to laugh about.

The race organisers must be well pissed off.

Bet Yorkshire Tourism aren't over pleased either.

Yeah, but probably not stuffed full of internet routers, video compressors and satellite relays etc etc which is what you'd need.

Decent finish in the Tour of Turkey on Eurosport and Froome is leading in Romadie on the Bike channel with 4K to go.

I don't ever recall this much live race coverage being lost due to something that should patently have been foreseen as a possibility and that could have been rectified so easily with a bit of forethought. Severe weather conditions, yes, but this is mind boggling ineptitude of the highest order.

And I don't think ITV can absolve themselves from blame either. They should have satisfied themselves beforehand that whoever the coverage was contracted to was providing an adequate service. Presumably in Grand Tours there are reserve aircraft standing by for such an eventuality.

This sort of thing normally happens in Spain but is less noticeable as Eurosport only provides about 2 hours of coverage of the races there.

Anyway, I think that's a significant win for Chris Froome, because previously descending in the wet has been a big Achilles Heel for him.

Looks like what they tried (and failed) to do this morning. Direct helicopter shots when within reasonable distance of the finish.
