Starting to look very good for Steve, peleton is showing what baseball commentators call defensive indifference.

I certainly wouldnt bet against Cummings, he seems on top form this year, not to mention very good tactically

All kicking off - the other subplot we haven't mentioned is Adam Yates v Alaphillipe for the White Jersey, he's making up time now, needs only 6 seconds.

Too bad, thy Sky train have brought him back on.

Three good races next week, but none of them live thanks to Tennis and Le Mans.

Tour of Switzerland continues to Sunday, highlights every night on ES.

Route du Sud starts on Wednesday - it does for the Pyrenean stages of the Tour de France what the Dauphine does for the Alps. Highlights on ES

Women's Tour of Britain also starts on Wednesday. No live coverage again, highlights every night on ITV4.

The sprinters teams keep moaning about the GC teams trying to stay up front but today's finish in the tour de suisse showed why you should, a lotto soudal rider looked like he purposely dropped the wheel in front to create the gap

Great day for British cyclists in the Dauphine - stage win for Cummings (3 Brits top-10 on the day) and GC win for Froome (Yates 7th).

Rachel Atherton makes history as she is the first woman to win 10 downhill WC rounds in succession - the way things are going, she'll finish this season unbeaten.

I ought yates could have tried to make a break, but maybe not. He probably wasn't far enough behind froome to be allowed to go.

With this band of rain coming over England I wonder if some of the tennis will be suspended, might mean live tour de suisse again, fingers crossed :P

I'm betting on tennis repeats.

Well Eurosport 2 has gone to follow Fabian instead of tennis now, so I am more optimistic for the cycling now

If they stick with the cycling and don't go back to tennis we could be in for a good session here with 85K to go

Normally once they go with something, they stick with it, looking at the weather radar I doubt there will be any play soon in either Birmingham or London

Just a reminder; the Women's Tour of Britain begins today. TV coverage is highlights on ITV4, usually starting at 21:00 but sometimes delayed for tennis, motor sports etc. Also on the Bike Channel and other background stuff on YouTube.

https://www.youtube.com/user/TheTourCycling

Full route and team details are here. 16 teams of 6 riders each, involving pretty much all of the top European-based pros - perhaps a few of the North Americans are missing.

Organisers of the Tour de Suisse obviously think the riders need fattening up a bit - prize for the stage winners is a huge chunk of Gruyere.

Can anyone shed some light on why so many of the women have such masculine, angular features, particular the prominent jutting jawline, and spotty complexion? For instance, It's very noticeable, and somewhat alarming, how much Armitstead's appearance has changed since 2012, and I'm not talking about the normal ageing process.

Probably a result of getting body fat down around 5%, bones jut out, such has ribs and cheek bones

It's a bit hard to tell - even though women's cycling has been around for ages, it is only in the last five years that there have been a any real number of full-time professional teams. Even two years ago when the Tour of Britain was first run half the teams were part-timers. This is the first year where all the teams are professional.

Good to hear Armitstead dedicated today's stage to fellow West Yorkshire women Jo Cox.

Thomas dropped another minute again today in TdSuisse. Not something he can expect to recover from in tomorrow's 20min ITT. Possibly the cold yesterday was still affecting him but could be a threat to his protected rider status at the Tour.

As expected, Simon Yates has received a 4-month ban. It means he will miss the Tour.

Just caught up with this - excellent omen for Rio for Lizzie. She had no problem distancing Marianne Vos on the climb, although Marianne is in excellent sprint form. Emma Pooley looks to be in trouble, though.

Pooley looks as though she's really struggling. This was her chance to prove she deserves to go to Rio but it ain't gonna happen on this form.

PS - The highlights coverage has been dreadful. It's pretty clear the commentary has been bolted on after the event.

Triathlon and ironman distances is decent preparation for ITTs but clearly, mini-tours are a discipline with different demands. Armitstead's problem at Rio will be effectively having no team and clear favourite status.

Route du Sud is relegated to Eurosport Player. On the bright side: no interminable ad-breaks and no commentary.
