I remember a classic stage in the late-90s where Bjarne Riis (unfortunately so doped on EPO that he was lucky not to explode like a balloon) put an end to the reign of Miguel Indurain on a stage cut in half by snow.
The cold got into Indurain's muscles as I recall it.

Something I thought about just now...Just wonder if all this new spirit of adventure and tactical variations that Chris Froome is showing this Tour have something to do with the Rio race? Only three weeks away now.

The day's breakaway was 18 minutes ahead of the peloton at some point - now coming down (currently 16 minutes) as a group of 40 has been dropped in the crosswinds.

Anybody see Aru get back on to the peleton after a mechanical?

Only managed it with an extra special Astana car tow. Special = long.

Probably worth a small time penalty because the group behind was falling further behind so joining them would have been a disaster

That Gerrans fall taking with him Stannard and Rowe probably ensures the break succeeds today. Navarro?

We will have to wait and see, who knows.Maybe they will disqualify him for leaving his bike behind

Be very surprised if they count the times.

Surely he cant lose the time. Crash happened in the last 3km so under the normal rules he would get the same time. Plus it wasnt his fault!

Ah, the 3km rule only applies on flat stages.

EDIT - just seen the above post.

It is a farce that the crowds can get that close to the riders, and thus cause this, they should not be close enough to physically touch the risers.

The authorities really need to look at ways of getting the crowds back so we can see some racing.

Is this the Tour de France introducing a brand new handicapping system.

If Froome had got away I think the race would be virtually over.

Probably the best solution is to give Porte and Froome the same time as Mollema and buy some more barriers. Too many spectators have been behaving like idiots on the top of climbs for years.

They can't allow the times of Froome and Porte to stand. If they do it sets a very dangerous precedent that the crowd then know they can deliberately impede a rider they don't like and nothing will be done.

Crowds need to be further back, they should not be allowed to run alongside riders, and touch them, it is a disgrace that they can, and influence the results in such manners.

Nothing yet, will post if I find anything out.

Lots of boos just went out in the crowd, not sure what they were booing at, still no yellow jersey presentation
