Not sure it is any worse than other years, didnt seem that many punctures this year compared to others

Is it true that Nairo Quintana was not hundred per cent, and thats why Froome won so easily

I think it had more to do with the tactics of Sky, and the brilliance of Froome.

AFAIK neither Quintana nor his team have made any comments to explain his relatively poor performance.

Contador abandoning early also made life much easier for Froome.

As soon as the Tour finishes it looks like the UCI has had a red hot potato dropped in its lap by the IOC

My reading of todays decision is that each sport's governing body will have to decide whether to ban Russian competitors in their sport from the Olympics

I don't think the UCI can possibly put a blanket ban on Russian cyclists.........is there really any evidence that Russian cyclists have doped more than French, Italian, German, Spanish etc ?. I guess the only thing they might do is ban the Russian Governing Body from sending a team as they have done in Athletics. And presumably allow individual athletes to compete under a neutral flag. Not sure what ramifications that would have for all the UCI International competitions at world, European, junior etc levels

The situation is further complicated as one of the main financiers of the Russian cycling is the Katusha boss who also happens to be on the UCI board

Whatever.......they have to do something quickly !

Yes. I don't think it would have mattered what form Quintana was in, Froome never came close to being troubled in the mountains and clearly had more than enough in reserve to fight off anything Quintana may have had to offer had he performed better

Quintana has finished 2nd, 2nd, 3rd in his 3 Tours.........perhaps it's not the case that he disappointed, maybe he just rode to form

Maybe that's as good as he is

The UCI president was interviewed on the news, he thought with the Russians being part of the biological passport then they cant be assumed to be doping. So sounds like they wont ban them, although anyone with a previous doping ban wont be allowed.

The BOC / David Millar ruling seems to prevent any ban on previously sanctioned athletes being imposed: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/sanc...ics-cas-rules/

Are there any Russians likely to win medals?

Guess that could be embarrassing in a way for cycling and other sports as questions would be asked.

Mind you whilst cycling has really cleaned up (hopefully!) they could say so and so has been banned before and allowed to race..

I reckon the IOC thought it would be a legal minefield hat regard (see Justin Gatlin for athletics as an example) so taken the easy way out.

But that rule didnt comply with WADA, this time WADA wants all Russian athletes banned, so they would have to find another argument to get the court of arbitration to overrule it

The article referred to the WADA Code. If the Code is changed I doubt it can apply retropectively. The penalties for doping are those in place when the offence is committed.

The IOC should have banned the Russian team wholesale for systematic state sponsored doping programme. They bottled it. And now they are trying to spread and deflect blame with unworkable delegation on a case by case basis.

There is no time left before the Olympics for the UCI to decide a way forward and then have appeals heard by CAS.

Whether that's an allergy to the blue and black is open to debate ...

Honestly? I couldn't give a monkeys
In over 30 years of following cycling I've supported Spanish, French, Belgium, American, Australian, Irish, Scottish, Italian, Welsh, English, Kazakhstan, Columbian cyclists and any nationalities in between.
He chooses to ride for Team GB, that's good enough for me.

How is one more British than the other?

What are your conditions to becoming more or less British than someone else??

The "British" link is a bit tenuous to be fair.
One of the 5 Live commentators made a similar point on Sunday morning.

And there's quite a lot of domestic cycling as well - British National Criterium Champs live on Thursday evening and various events round the Ride London-Surrey classic, including para races, a sportif and the main race itself, live on Eurosport and the BBC.

And also the Classica San Sebastian on Saturday - won by Adam Yates last year.
