No, Kreuziger was near the top of the TT standings. Probably contributed to why he couldn't stay with even Contador for a good part of the 2nd Alpe d'Huez.

Froome has said he think it's the hardest stage on the Tour as well.

( My domestique is on her day off )

Im sure that if I rest and eat well i should be fit enough for the two hills early on despite the constant attacks from other teams telling me to go out into the sunshine and get a life.

This tour is taking its effect on me ,but if i can get through tomorrow and saturday , i will eventually see daylight, ”

I made it to the flag, at last

Back home from the States. Missed the last few stages because I'd moved to an hotel that didn't have NBC sports and was travelling. Just in time for the crucial stages, but will probably be falling asleep at key moments.

I flicked over to ITV4 at the end of yesterrdays stage 'cos Eurosport had left the live feed to go back to the studio before Contador came in..............and I caught sight of Chris Boardman with Gary Imlach ?.........

Chris still looks fit as a fiddle for a guy in his mid 40s...............he looks like he could still ride the Tour..........

I suggested that Froome grabbing the gel was a bit pointless, because it was only 5km from then finish, so not enough time to derive any boost.

Don't really know, it would be starting in the wee small hours of the morning over there. But certainly they were showing all the finishes live on a sports channel - obviously the main channels were showing breakfast TV etc.

cheers............I was wondering whether they'd given up on the coverage now that they're no longer winning it...........

Yes there was - a psychological boost to help him push to the end. Whether it actually gave him more energy or not was only ever going to be half the point, the rest was mental - at least he knew he had more sugars in his body, whether they worked in time or not.

This ^^^ ... It's very strange how the mind works. If he didn't have a team mate with him or an energy gel, he could have just folded... Could have lost 2+ minutes there imho.

Actually, the point that Chris Boardman made was that if Froome really was completely empty, then he would have felt some of the energy from the gel very quickly. Far more quickly than someone who wasn't completely empty.

Fair enough, but that doesn't preclude the psychological effect as well, so even if he wasn't completely empty, taking the gel wasn't pointless.

Another psychological factor.............

We all know how thorough Sky are. I imagine they work out the ideal feeding times for each stage and then vary from the template according to how the day is going

Froome probably had a scheduled feed a bit earlier but couldn't get it because the car had broken down............that might have played on his mind as going off script for the stage. In his mind he probably needed the feed because it was in the plan

..........and by the time the second team car got up they were past the feed limit for the stage.

We did see him on the radio an awful lot and maybe 'getting the feed' had risen to the top of 'immediate problems to be solved'.............so it never occurred to them to just say 'ok, we'll not bother'...............they were into problem solving mode

Apparently the car driver got a much bigger fine than the two riders..............it was probably his idea for Froome to pretend he had a mechanical so the Commissars would let the team car through................

Well, I have paced myself over the 2 mountains, my early weetabix feedstation help as my domestic ( recovered from her rest day ) ran back to the kitchen car at the first downhill,
The rain didnt effect me, my legs feel good and I am going to attack on the downstairs section .....

Saxo have come to the front and are taking up the pulling

Lovely jubbly for Froome and his team...............

I wonder if there someone up the road who Contador thinks is a danger to his 2nd place ?
