cheers......I didn't know it was on red button, I was going to wait until it came on ES at 2.30

I've got it on now......it's Magnus and Hugh Porter (?).......doesn't he keep retiring......
He just does part time for the BBC, he is doing the world feed, Simon Brotherton will be commentating when it goes live on BBC 1, I assume the red button will carry on with Hugh

Hugh Porter on the red button really is a useless c**t. He should have been given the elbow years ago. They had about 15 minutes before the off when they should have been telling us what pros were in the race, especially the key players, but not a mention of any of them. In particular, not a peep about Chris Froome until over 20 minutes into the coverage despite plenty of footage of him and Team Sky leading the field through West London through most of the neutralized zone. As usual I don't think he's done any research at all. Did he even know Froome was in the race until he saw him in shot? I expect Brotherton to be far more informative and on the ball.

Crowd trouble in Dorking, apparently.

I doubt if that useless fool Porter has ever heard of Froome. Eddy Merckx maybe, but even that's probably too modern for him.

So much negativity, I can think of far worse commentators half his age

I'm sure he's a nice bloke and everything but Porter is truly past it, he only really knows about track racing and he gets confused and mixed up about what's going on in that too. Luckily he only gets roped in to the odd thing like this nowadays, having been let go from main comms duties a couple of years ago.

It's a shame there are no younger up and coming commentators of any note, cant understand why no other broadcaster have made use of Dave Harmon, one of the best cycling commentators of recent years

Ned Boulting did a very good job on ITV4's coverage of this year's TdF.

Ned has improved but Dave Harmon was still many times better

The negativity about Hugh Porter is ott. Simon Brotherton didn't tell us who crashed yesterday. The old duo who ITV4 replaced couldn't always keep up with the action but there was somebody on here who actually didn't watch the TDF because they weren't commentating. "It wouldn't be the same without them", he claimed. It wasn't. Most GC contenders didn't actually contend. That must have been their way of expressing their disapproval of ITV4's decision.

Anyway I have a grumble of my own, which is the premature ending of the Red Button coverage. It should have lasted at least anoter 5 minutes longer. Better still, it could have continued until BBC1 handed over to their commentary team.

And finally in this post, what is Davve Harmon doing these days. I thought he would have resumed commentating a long time ago.

The World feed which BBC red button was taking started over for when Eurosport joined, showing a resume of what has happened so far.

Last I heard Dave Harmond commentated on the Tour of Cambridge for a podcast, I wonder if he has been illegally "blacklisted" after his fallout with Eurosport

I was enjoying the red button until it ended and we joined BBC One for ten minutes of talking heads

Talking of Hugh Porter he did mention Froome and when he first commentated on him as a Kenyan cyclist in the Commonwealth Games

Ned Boulting and David Millar were really rather good this year. Much better than Phil and Paul's (12 stock phrases, awkward guide book reading, mentioning the AMGEN tour of California every 30 seconds) ... style.

A Sky rider will win, but will it be Froome?

One of the BBC commentators said he won't win as this course doesn't suit him. He said he will help one of his team mates to win.

They were great on the Criterium du Dauphine this year, I was really chuffed to hear them doing the Tour.

Look forward to the two of them becoming the regulars for years to come.

Rob Hatch is excellent, did the Giro for Eurosport UK and the TdF for BBC radio. Porter is 76.

Thomas should win this, but if he is caught and Froom is in a good position, he might do something special. Stanard has worked hard for Thomas today.

Now is not a good time to lose pictures. Think they have bandwidth problems coming into central London, same thing happened at the Olympics.

Oh dear. What a disaster. Shades of the Tour De Yorkshire fiasco.

This is amusing considering the commentary has been saying the race was all over for the last hour or so.

What a mess.

The commentators trying to say the loss of pictures are a good thing!
