Catching up with the road racing:

-Degenkolb had his first win beating Kristoff to the line in the Artic Tour since the serious team training crash in January
-Tony Martin has signed to Katusha
-Froome is confirmed for the Vuelta - no Thomas, Roche or Intxausti in Sky team.

Welcome back the Velodrome to the red button. Much better than brief race segments squeezed in amongst other sports.

Brill little name shower! I finally spotted one - IAM

Not a chance later on with Cannondale Drapac but should be okay with Sky.

Assuming that the corrected timings stand we have Peter Kennaugh in the leaders jersey with a decent chance of keeping it tomorrow depending on any time bonuses. (Not sure if there are time bonuses)

Kennaugh awarded the red jersey with the missing 0.6 secs added to Movistar's on-screen time. Lotto Jumbo restored to sixth after being omitted from top ten graphics.

There are races other than the Vuelta on TV this afternoon.

Swedish WWT Crescent Vargarda RR on ES at 9am. The route and profile is on page 9: http://www.vargardacycling.se/wp-con...WT-RR-2016.pdf

The highlights of last Friday's TTT are on YT: https://youtu.be/nROUFVgtEOs

Olympic Men's Mountain Biking is at 4:30pm on BBC Olympic Channel 2. The Slovakian guy is said to be in with a chance. But, it is seven years since he redirected his focus solely to the road.

I bet the guys who ride the Mountain Bike tour week in week out will all be ganging up on Sagan.........it would be pretty embarrassing for them and their sport if some guy can just turn up from the Road and beat them at their own game

I have the feeling that mountain bikers are guys who didn't quite make it in road racing......Sagan winning would feed into that

Good to see a live Women's world cup race on ES even if it is at the crack of dawn.....

Sky won at Romandie last year by a similar tight margin: https://youtu.be/1hnwVSz8-SM?t=2m29s

I wonder if Simon Gerrans will go for the sprint today, with the bonus seconds he could take the Red jersey

.
That German one day race was shown in the Radio Times as being live on Eurosport from 1pm with today's Vuelta coverage starting at 2.45

As it happened the German race was not shown live and the Vuelta started at 2pm

I wonder if Carlton knew this schedule change because he gave away the result of the German race even though it was being shown as highlights after the Vuelta......

Whoops! I made an amusing error above, confusing 2 bike riders. . Grant Ferguson rode for GB in the XC MTB race (sorry Grant!). New Zealander Greg Henderson rides on the road for Lotto-Soudal. I always get stuck on similar sounding names!

From what I saw I am not sure the spoiler content is quite right.

On BBC coverage, I saw the Rio (non-team) mechanics adjusting his seat post or saddle connection at one point (so not just punctures). Also, official provisional result said he was lapped so not allowed to complete (rather than an abandon). He was shown at another time going over a short sharp descent on foot that the commentators suggested probably was another mechanical.

He looked like he had the strength and could tough out taking the wrong lines but his bike was not up to it. Perhaps he used a heavier, more robust bike in his youth? He did not display the skill of the leaders in negotiating the course.

He is probably rueing the advice/assessment of the RR as a climbers course. He is more than capable of keeping up with and being in a chase for the line with Van Avermaet and Fuglsang.

The OBS TV cameras didn't really follow Sagan after his 1st puncture. I wasn't entirely sure if he was pulled out of the race by the officials or he quit as initially suggested by the race commentators.

Sagan apparently hadn't done a MTB XC World Cup round since 2009, so we had no idea of where he stood against the likes of Schurter. It's a real skill not to suffer flat tyres on these courses.

It was in hindsight, a mistake to not do the Rio Road Race.

This image sums it up really.

It just seems a bit random that a puncture cost you any chance in the race. Same for everyone, I know, but it seems wrong to me.

I suppose MTB fans would tell you that risk avoidance is one of the skills you need. Certainly the experienced riders would be thinking about their line through those jagged rocky sections.

I'm struggling to find any news of the Vuelta on the internet, or at least any decent reporting. I know it's on telly, or at least the highlights, on ITV4 - has anyone any websites you recommend that give good coverage?
