I'm struggling to find any news of the Vuelta on the internet, or at least any decent reporting. I know it's on telly, or at least the highlights, on ITV4 - has anyone any websites you recommend that give good coverage?
This is the site that I use for details of ongoing and upcoming races but it's not really reading material, more facts, figures, stage profiles, maps, results, classifications after each stage............I usually watch the races on telly so don't feel I need to read about them afterwards !

http://www.procyclingstats.com/index.php

The BBC Cycling page is quite good for short daily reports from the big races and general news......

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling

The Steephill site covers the races in more depth ........here's their Vuelta pages......

http://www.steephill.tv/vuelta-a-espana/

edited to add correct link to BBC site

They seem to have dropped the fractions of a second now and moviestar and team sky are on the same times, which could make for a race within a race if moviestar want to take the red jersey

Reading the preview on the Steephill site and they reckon today's stage finish is the steepest hill on the Vuelta.......average nearly 14% and 30% in parts

Fortunately though it's only 1.8 kilometres

joaquim Rodrigues won up here a few years ago.........even though it's short it's a real test and could see some big gaps opening up on GC on day 3.

Did anyone else think that the Movistar rider who was second over the line thought he'd won ?

Wasn't sure, may have just been celebrating getting the leader's jersey. Anyway, good stage, well worth at the last 10k look if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Don't miss these days La Vuelta because you can watch the beautiful landscapes of Galicia, where I live. Tomorrow the stage will finish in Lugo, my city.
Well, Lugo is not beautiful but the general idea of Spain that you probably have is related to beach, islands and big cities. Galicia and the north of Spain is not like that.
Green zones, mountains, and not very large cities but great landscapes.
A watch is worth, at least in my opinion.

I thought Contador was hoping to use the extra time he had from pulling out of the Tour de France to prepare for la Vuelta. He should be more fresh than somme of his rivals, but that isn't showing yet.

I watched the women's race in Sweden. Hannah Barnes was up there but she made a mistake towards the end which meant she couldn't contend the finish.

Yes, it does look wonderful

I wasn't aware of the City and surrounding towns of Vigo until a couple of days ago but what a beautiful setting for a City

An unguarded bollard is being cited as the cause of Kruijswijk's crash resulting in a broken collarbone.

Rob Hatch has tweeted the organisers are currently drafting an open apology for the incident.

Unfortunately not the first time this has happened in Spainish races: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/...-finish-165565

Today's stage win is his first victory at WT level.

-----

The quotas for Doha have been published. GB are among the nations to earn the maximum 9 berths for the men's elite RR (which Cav will appreciate); surprisingly, the Germans can only use 6 riders for that event.

Yup, good win, very well deserved after what must have been a very psychologically frustrating season. Hopefully the first of many at this level.

Have you seen the profile for the Worlds RR? Apparently, pancakes are suing for undermining their trademark flatness. I hope the wind gets up and it is not a hot day for October in Qatar.

Interesting to hear Sean Kelly saying the Vuelta organisers probably skipped classifying some of today's climbs to avoid scaring riders away from an already heavily mountainous race. I always thought the process was more objective.

Am I right in thinking that anyone taking part in any round in the team pursuit gets a medal?

if so it's really churlish of GB not to give Cav a ride in round 1
Wiggins explains the reasons at 7min 30secs.

Wiggo has earmarked the 'Six days at Ghent' for his swansong.......teaming up with Cav

Ghent is his birthplace

Carlton said today that ES will cover the meeting......either in full or in part

Also saw somewhere that they were going to show the Six Days at London

Well, good for him, Six day racing is no skive.

Eurosport has the final stage of the Tour de l'Avenir live tomorrow before the Vuelta.

Is any bookie offering odds on a Columbian 1-2-3 in the Vuelta? Three in the top five and the two sandwiched by them have had a busy races schedule before this GT. Still early days though.

Nicholas Roche, who became ill after the Olympic RR, has been diagnosed with pneumonia and being tested for Legionaire's Disease: http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/othe...ease-1.2762251

Roche is joining BMC next season.

I'm not a fan of the six-day stuff but I'm probably in the minority on that one.

Froome has had a quiet first week but that may be about to change. If Contador stays in the race, we'll find out what impact the crash will have on him. There are three days until the rest and tomorrow is supposed to be difficult.

I can't be bothered watching Madisons even if there's Medals at stake

Wouldn't Froome's best tactic be to try and stay where he is and try and take the lead on the TT a couple of days before the end? If he tries to take the lead this weekend he could wear out his team and increase the chances of him fading in the final week.

Sky always seem to be comfortable with the lead, they're quite prepared to have it for two weeks in a three week race.

Around 0.1% average grade for the first 170km today and then this:
http://www.steephill.tv/2016/vuelta-.../finish-08.jpg

First three and a half kilometres will not be a problem for the peloton before hitting a one-in-four wall. The ramp is only a few hundred metres long but a couple of kilometres at 20% follow before the finish.
