Interesting that we could, (probably won't) have a rider who wins a stage with the same surname as the name of town in which it finishes!

Quintana looks older than his 26 years 😱

A 3.5km x 9% climb has been tagged onto the end of the ITT. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/2017...on-a-mountain/

Persistent climbing taking is toll on the peloton. Only 45 in the front group at the end. Peloton 20 mins down on a not too difficult a stage.

Longest road stage of the Vuelta tomorrow with the shortest following on Sunday. As in P-N, will Contador attempt to regain a chunk of time on one of the weekend stages? Difficult with the two strongest teams having leads to defend.

Well he came in6th on the stage today so he was close to achieving that feat.

Big gap to the breakaway today........around 20 minutes with 60K to go

no-one in the break is within an hour of GC so no team bothered about chasing......and a big day tomorrow with lots of big climbs and HC (or spanish equivalent) mountain top finish. Looks like all the big teams are saving their legs

Could be one of those days where the breakaway comes in then all the broadcasters have to twiddle their thumbs for half an hour waiting for the peloton.

Today has been uneventful, but the GC contenders are saving their energy for the weekend.

On days like this you need to be following Things Carlton Says

The peloton arrived about 35 mminutes behind.

judging by the Norwegian race that's on now the World Champs in Bergen next year is going to be a Winter Race.........it's a month later than this and it's been chucking down and cold every day during this race

Going to be a busy weekend for us couch potatoes. Four live races today - Spain, Brussels, Norway, Alberta, and three tomorrow - Spain, Britain and Alberta.

It's a shame on the days they join later that they dont record the breakaway forming and show that before the live race, on the flat days that can sometimes be the only exciting thing bar the sprint at the end.

Carlton keeps going on about the pressure on team sky but Chaves and Contador are the ones more likely to drop down the GC

And with Movistar having their guys in the break, they are just as likely to be burning their candles at both ends as Sky are. But that's the thing about the Vuelta, with teams being less strong overall it always comes down to the leader battle much earlier.

And once again the tactic of sending men up front early so that your team leader can catch them up leader reveals itself to be utterly useless. Great ride from Simon Yates, emulates his brother, up to 4th. Unfortunately there is no young riders jersey to win in the Vuelta.

I love these full televised days in the mountains. Great stage. And a very entertaining last few K by Froome and Quintana. Brought to mind Armstrong and Pantani on Ventou, way back, although this time the little guy was the aggressor.

Another brilliant day for Yates. When will he ride with his brother again? Those two working together while both are in brilliant form would be quite a partnership.

Quintana can't get Froome off his back.

Rachel Atherton made history today by winning every single round of this year's Downhill (MTB) World Cup - a feat nobody has achieved before (Atherton herself was beaten in just the opening round in 2015). She'll be looking to keep hold of her rainbow jersey next week.

Danny Hart won his third WC round in succession and finishes a close second behind Aaron Gwin in the overall standings. He's also a contender in next week's WCh.

The Tour of Britain starts tomorrow, with Brad and Cav - who have already confirmed they'll be continuing their track cycling partnership - cycling in different teams.

Tour of Britain underway on ITV4 - bit of blethering to start with. Also starting on the Bike Channel. ITV4 have Hugh Porter & Brian Smith, don't recognise this guy on the Bike Channel though. Rob Hayes is the expert.

And we're getting the whole stage from Spain, just on the roll-out at the moment. 87k to go in Blighty over rolling roads, 118k over big mountains in Spain, so no problem fitting both in.

the bloke on the Bike Channel is OJ Borg who does the Bespoke cycling show on Radio 5

The Vuelta team classification is being led by BMC.

The classification is calculated from the sum of the first three riders times on each road stage.

On GC, BMC's top three's aggregate is 1882 seconds down and Sky's are only 703. OBE, with two riders in the top five, are ranked as thirteenth best team. Apart from sharing the plaudits around (and avoid it going by default to the GC winners) it seems a less than ideal method of determining the best team.

Big drama going on the Vuelta, a concentrated attack on Froome, he's currently isolated one minute behind a group containing Contador and Quintana. Getting a bit of help from Orica, who are not represented in the lead group.

Meanwhile in the ToB a typical scenario with a breakaway of locally-based 3rd Division riders out on a break to suck all the day's mountain and sprint points.

I think we are seeing the Vuelta being decided right here.

Froome's lack of strong support at this Tour now being exposed. A brilliant piece of work between Movistar and Tinko to rip Froome out of contention. I cant see a way back.

Greipel takes the bunch sprint in Castle Douglas, looked very strong. Cav and a few others came a cropper on the final bend, managed to get back on his bike and finish.
