Another gold for her - 12th overall.

Great achievement.

Another busy weekend coming up. Apart from the ToB and the Vuelta both at the crunch stage we have the two Canadian classics, the Grand Prix de Quebec, highlights on Friday, and the Montreal Grand Prix, live on Sunday night, and on Sunday afternoon, the women's stage of the Vuelta, being raced for the first time, on the Madrid circuit.

And three more days of action from the Rio Velodrome, although coverage of that will probably be finals only in the evening. On past form they won't be covering the road races, though.

On CyclingTips, there's an interesting article on the battle for WorldTour licences (18 this year, 17 the next) among some of the teams and why Dimension Data might be the team to lose out despite their stage haul in the TdF.

I only lasted a few minutes on stage one on ITV4 before trying Bike and I've stuck with it ever since

Borg and Hales are a good team.......

Froome was out of this world in his time-trial battle with Quintana. Tomorrow could be very exciting. Come on Froome.

Tommorrow's stage in the Tour of Britain is a time-trial.

Well, that's one way of releasing the frustration accrued from last Sunday's epic stage; you can see why Froome is an Olympic medallist in the ITT. Having said that, there's no way Quintana will lose the red jersey tomorrow (barring an unforseen disaster).

Yates could finish in the top 5 on GC, which is impressive considering he's generally been working for Esteban Chaves. He'll need to gain 20 seconds on Andrew Talansky (who put in a strong ride today) to do so.

It was a great day for Sky as Wout Poels took the stage win on Haytor, which funnily enough is where Yates claimed his first victory on the road in 2013.

Dennis and Dumoulin gapped Cummings towards the end and got bonus seconds to lower their overall deficits to around 50 seconds. Tomorrow's ITT in Bristol is around 15km long and at 3km to go includes a 1km climb at 5-6% percent or thereabouts.

There is also a RR stage on the same circuit later that day, followed by Sunday's traditional circuit race in London.

Yes, dear old Hugh was pronouncing Dumoulin as Dummelin today in spite of Brian's frequent hints. Still, today's climb to Haytor has set up a great three way battle for the overall win in the short time trial tomorrow.

And then another exciting day tomorrow in the Vuelta. Just wondering if Froome is regretting doing the Olympics now, I think that was possibly the difference. OTOH, he obviously felt that he needed to do something bit for Team GB, so....

More likely due to Sky fielding a weaker team than planned.

Landa damaged his hip between the Tour and Vuelta.
Roche contracted pneumonia at the Olympics so could not start.
Kwiatkowski seems to have a problem with stage race stamina. He did not complete Romandie and Dauphine and lasted a week at the Vuelta.
Intxausti, hired from Movistar to help the GT team leader in the mountains, has hardly raced all season.

Froome only needed a couple of riders to sacrifice themselves and bridge across to the established Contador break while it was down under a minute during the Stage 15 rout. Instead he was alone in the second group calling on the team radio.

I think the whole stage of the Vuelta is on ES tomorrow

Froome is now only 1'21 down on Quintana

I suppose his only chance is to ride away from Quintana on the final climb when it's down to the GC contenders and the teams have been blown away.......but it's probably more likely that Quintana will ride away from Froome judging by the climbing form

The fly in the ointment is whether Quintana's ride today signifies that he's gone over the top in which case he might struggle tomorrow......

should be interesting !

As he was less than a minute down on Quintana going into stage 15, and with the ITT to come, Froome was the notional leader. As such, surely he should have been riding more defensively, on Quintana's wheel, and not taking any risks of a breakaway occurring in front of him.

No rider is omnipotent - aware of and, able to mark, every potential GC attack throughout the race. Surely, riding defensively means letting your team take the strain so early in a stage? Panicking and personally chasing down every move by the top three GC riders, becoming isolated in the process, is not sensible tactics.

Tinkov and Movistar both had three riders in the break. Sky mustered three for the initial chase plus the assistance of OBE who spent heavily on the previous stage. Sky's presence quickly dropped to one when the third group formed off the back due to the pace up-front.

It took a while, but Tony Martin finally won his first international ITT of the season in Bristol.

Dennis and Dumoulin put in strong performances just 3 and 5 seconds in arrears respectively, but Cummings produced one of his best rides to stay 38 seconds ahead of both competitors in the GC. The way things are going, Dimension Data could well keep overall ToB victory in-house - just 2 stages left to negotiate.

Yeah, that should be it, just two criterium-type races to go he just needs to stay on really.

It is bonkers when you break the world record, but you are out of the medals.

Something wrong with the factoring methinks.
Edward_Sloley

Records are classification specific.

In Giglia's case, her WR is for C3 competitors only. Having said that, Norbruis (who broke her own C2 WR) was still faster with or without factoring.

Red letter day for Columbian cycling. Winner and third on the Vuelta podium plus second on one of the hardest stages. Gritty performance by Latour in the final kilometre.

Nothing materialised in the Froome/Quintana duel. There was a lot of shadow boxing 120km out but whatever was planned did not come to fruition. Dignified concession by Froome on the line.

Young Latour is asked in the post-stage interview whether, having just won his first stage, he can win a grand tour. No pressure from unrealistic French expectations then.

Dennis made his third stage podium in a row - indeed he actually won stage 7b after gapping the field on the last ascent and put himself into a clear second place on GC.

With an overall advantage of 26 seconds and just the expected bunch sprint to come in London tomorrow, Cummings looks set to win the ToB. His decision to give Vermote a relatively easy ride in the latter moments of stage 2 (at the cost of a stage win) seems to have paid off.

-----

Talansky gained more time on Yates to secure fifth place, so the latter will finish the Vuelta in a very creditable sixth place.

Talansky said he was getting back to the promising form of a couple of years ago. Yates short-lived final climb attacks were said to be intended to disrupt the GC chase. If so, it worked as Chaves retained a narrow 13 seconds lead over Contador for the final podium place.

It was always going to be unlikely that Frooome would win la Vueltta but he kept fighting to the end and did what he could.

Steve Cummings will probably win the Tour of Britain. He has had to be patient but it has come good in the latter stages.
