This afternoon, British Cycling has publicly apologised to Jess Varnish about discriminatory comments made by Sutton. The talk of his return appears to be bluster. You can read what Sutton's wife thinks of the ruling on Twitter.

The Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport want to question British Cycling bosses over the use of the TUE system and related topics

from the BBC site.....

"As part of the inquiry into doping, the select committee wants to look at the ethics of the use of TUEs and the way this is policed by British Cycling," culture, media and sport select committee chairman Damian Collins told The Times.

"We can ask British Cycling about any incidents in the past where we believe it is important how the governing body oversees their sport."

The committee could also question British Cycling officials over allegations that one of its staff delivered a medical package to Team Sky in France on the day Wiggins won the Criterium du Dauphine in La Toussuire."

I imagine a chunk of compo will be in order.

So the Saitama Criterium turned out to be about as unexpected as a North Korean presidential election. Good thing was that the organisers had gone to the bother of flying Didi the Devil across. And he had managed to get a little fan club all of his own.

Another event has sneaked onto my programme guide. Eurosport 2 has European Championship cyclo-cross tomorrow at 14:00

I wonder if that's why in the statement they didn't really apologise but merely expressed regret.

Of course this is just the start we have the full report to come which has input from a number of other riders & also deals with other allegations like those concerning his alleged comments to Para Cyclists.

Cav and Wiggo have just done a brilliant Madison and gone to the top of the GC leadership with everyone else at least one lap down overall

It looks like they've worked out tactics of not bothering much with all the secondary events which gain points but to concentrate on the Madisons where you can gain laps which determines the leaderboard. As long you get an average amount of points in the other events without knocking yourself out it seems like a good strategy

I suppose it's like concentrating on stage finishes and not bothering with intermediate sprints......

Final event just getting underway......the final Madison chase

Cav and Wiggo in the lead with 2 teams one lap down

and straightaway those two team attack from the gun..........Cav and Wiggo let them go.......it's a long race !

they're about to gain the lap

Cav and Wiggo attack as soon as the other two teams get back on..........and regain the lap they just lost !

It's quite good this Madison........I'm getting the hang of it now

By the way, Cav and Wiggo are just 'guesting' at this London event.......they won't be going on to compete in the other rounds and final over the next couple of months

Same thing happening again........the Belgians and Aussies take another lap and as soon as they get back on Cav and Wiggo go......and get the lap back
swingaleg
30-10-2016
the Belgians nick the lead with a handful of laps to go........it's all on the last sprint at the finish !

Belgians win by a handful of points........

Perhaps Brad & Cav not bothering with some of the secondary events like The Longest Lap have cost them.......

Don't think it was scheduled earlier, but I notice it's on the EPG now, so you'll have a choice between Carlton/Tony and Simon/Chris as your commentators.

Eurosport also showing lots of cycling repeats next week as it fills in the autumn scheduling gap before the winter sports season gets up to speed.

Team pursuit qualification took place behind closed doors this evening, with both GB squads qualifying in the top two* so they're both in contention for the gold medal finals (it'll be tight for the women in their 'semi-final').

Starting tomorrow, sprint comps at World Championships and World Cup meets adopt a slightly different structure. The fastest 28 entrants qualify for the match sprints (previously 24), from which the top 4 bypass the 1/16 finals; as a result, the 1/8 finals will involve 16 competitors (previously 12) and no repechage will take place.

Looking at the British squad it appears that we haven't got any women sprinters.......

Rachel James and Katy Marchant (who was among the 'internationals' invited to Japanese keirin races last month) have been named for the Apeldoorn WC meet, which takes place a week after Glasgow.

Looks like the French men's TP squad donned their Euro champs skinsuits in competition, which I've never seen before.

Good to see many "new" countries entering for the women's team pursuit, during the last Olympic cycle there were only about 10 regular entrants.

And De Ketele & De Pauw turned out for the Belgian team, talk about your tough Flemish workhorses!

GB are guaranteed two medals tonight as both TP squads made the gold medal finals. The men did so comfortably; the women did so more comfortably than anticipated since Poland got the better of them in their ECh semi.

Tonight, they're up against the European champions (France / Italy respectively).

-----

The young sprinters are also doing themselves justice, with Owens qualifying second in 9.890 seconds and Truman sixth in 9.926. As expected, the times in Glasgow were slow compared to Paris (which I think has bigger bankings than most 250m velodromes).

They met in the quarter-finals where Owens took it in three; he'll face European champion Pavel Yakushevskiy in his semi (the other is Kamil Kuczyński (top qualifier with 9.871) v ECh bronze medallist Andriy Vynokurov). Oliva qualified 9th in 9.963 and was beaten in the 1/8 finals.

There's also the women's keirin (no Brits), which only had 14 entries so it's just the second round and the finals in that event.
