Ghent underway on ES2

all those adverts on the track are very off-putting.........
Is the track smaller than the Olympic ones or is it just the ads that make it look narrower?

it's much smaller apparently....about 160-odd metres round as opposed to 250 metres.....and that affects the race tactics

eg......there's a much smaller straight to the finishing line from the last bend so it's more difficult to come from behind in a sprint to the line in the events which have line sprints

and it only takes under 10 seconds to do a lap which affects the tactics in the races where the aim is to gain laps

Well, they've only gone and won it!

Not a bad way to end their last race together (and what was originally Wiggo's swansong). It might also be the last time Cav dons the stripes for a race.

Yeah.......it was a fantastic finish

Apparently Brad was hinting that he might carry on but limit himself to the 6 day circuit

If he does pack up will Cav pack up as well or could he find a new partner ?

Revolution Series 'have a HUGE rider announcement coming' for the London meet on 2/3 December. I've no idea who they could possibly mean.

As for Cav's track career (I presume you know his road career is still good for a few years), I don't think today's madison was his last, especially if it's readmitted to the Olympic track programme for 2020.

oh yes.......I was referring to Cav on the track

I was wondering if he might become a regular in these 6 day events with a new partner

He's already done a lot of them over the years.

Well, it's not who I thought it would be - but they're not wrong!

One Pro Cycling have stepped down from Pro-Continental to Continental after losing their bike sponsor to a World Tour Team. The number of riders will reduce by around a third: http://oneprocycling.com/2017-team-announcement/

Just a bump, Revolution Champions League Part 1 from Manchester Velodrome on Eurosport, Saturday night. Part 2 is next weekend.

If you haven't seen it before, it's a trade team competion, not a national one like the World Cups. It's been upgraded from previous years and now features full Division I World Tour teams alongside the usual Division III British stalwarts.

And more cyclocross on the Bike Channel on Sunday 12:45, the Flandriend Cross event in Hamme, Belgium. Everything you need to know here, if you speak Dutch.

Announcement on the reduction in the size of teams for 2017 season's races:

Following the General Assembly of the International Association of Cycling Race Organizers (AIOCC), RCS Sport, Flanders Classics and A.S.O have taken the decision to reduce the number of riders per team at the start of their races. The number of riders per team will thus decrease from 9 to 8 on the Grand Tours and from 8 to 7 on the other events.

This decision responds to two-pronged objective: the first being to improve the safety conditions for the riders with a smaller peloton on roads equipped with more and more street furniture. The second, which is a fortunate consequence of the first, is to make it more difficult to dominate a race as well as enhance conditions for events to offer better racing for cycling fans.

This decision will go into effect for the 2017 season, the number of teams will obviously remain the same.

Some were hoping for a braver reduction to seven in GTs.

I suppose they had to do something because I believe there's quite a big increase in World Tour races that the teams are obligated to ride

I suppose they had to either increase the number of riders in each squad or reduce the number in each race........I don't think the teams would be happy if they had to increase their rosters !

I'm surprised the 8 wasn't reduced to 6 given the increase in races.

There's also a cycle-cross World Cup today, from Zeven, Germany. 12:35 Women's race, 13:55 Men's race. They're keeping busy.

Must say that I much prefer the Six Day events to these Revolution meetings

I watched tonight but it's not that easy to follow........they seem to have a lot of very short events and squeezing in Boys, Girls, Women and Men's races make it very fragmented

I suppose it didn't help that we joined the event two thirds of the way through

Ed Clancy and another British guy won the overall event.........the World Tour teams didn't seem to be that bothered about competing just showing their faces. Sky finished 4th and were the top world tour team

Very impressed by this Leah Evans, had not heard of her until a few weeks ago, but she was absolutely bossing Diedericksen the Road World Champion all night.

Just noticed this in tonight's TV schedules......

7.00pm Channel 5 - Tour de Celeb

A group of celebrities take on the challenge of training for and riding L'Etape de Tour during the Tour de France. I'm assuming this was the 2016 Tour and it's all been pre-recorded. The Etape is an Alpine stage from Megeve to Morzine

As with all this type of show the definition of 'Celeb' is fairly fluid and includes a few I've never heard of but there's Darren Gough, Austin Healy, Jodie Kidd, Amy Williams (winter Olympics) and Louis Spence

The riders undergo training with Rob Hales and Dame Sarah Storey

4 part series.......

think I'll give it a watch - there's nowt else on at that time !

It's great having more coverage of the Revolution Series. Last year we got 2 hours per round and this year we have at least 3 hours of coverage.

The night belonged to Neah Evans. I expected Ellanor Barker to win every event in which she competed. It seems Neah Evans has been the star of the domestic scene.

JLT Condor will be the champions this season.

Neah Evans might have just burst onto the scene but she's older than Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald

she was a late starter !

British Cycling's Olympic Podium (ie the Lottery Funded) Team for 2017 named, including road, track, BMX & Mountain Bike (presumably Olympic-style only). I'm guessing the likes of Mark Cavendish & Chris Froome will be forgoing their £25,000 lottery funding. Main interest is that Bradley Wiggins will still be on the track team and Dani King makes a well-earned return to the women's road squad. Is Nikki Brammeier the cyclist formerly known as Nikki Harris?

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/gb...-for-2016-17-0

There's also a huge number of juniors and boys & girls being funded in all the domains.

Yes - she married Matt Brammeier back in the spring.

Also noteworthy is Shanaze Reade staying on the list despite not riding track at all this year AFAIK.
