I'm not clear what it is but it lasts two days and seems to include a Pro-Am 100 mile race on Sunday which incorporates a Classic for pro riders and a race for thousands of amateurs, a bit like the London marathon

Sagan is riding amongst a host of pros

Eurosport is covering it on Sunday afternoon”

Yep, saw the signs on the M4 about road closures this weekend for a 'major cycling event' and did a bit of googling to see if it was anything tasty.

http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/

Professional parts of the event are:

- Grand Prix criterium race today (3rd), which is for women, including Trott/King/Rowsell as Wiggle Honda representation, also Hannah Barnes who has been winning the UK crit races this year.

- London-Surrey Classic race tomorrow (4th) - men's road race covering some of the Olympic road race course from last year. No significant GB representation by the looks of it (no Wiggins/Froome/Cav, with only Swift and Stanning listed last time I checked IIRC)

The Classic race is live on BBC1 tomorrow (and possibly the red button) by the looks of it. Probably/hopefully includes highlights of the crit race from today.

There's been some criticism that the pro-women haven't had a proper road race included (no Armitstead, Vos, etc) but there's still a long way to go before the pro-women get anywhere near equality with the men so no real surprise.

Here's the route for both races tomorrow (the added bit for the pros is the loops of Leith Hill):

http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.u...-route-map.pdf

Seeing as it's a variation on the Olympic road race route it's coming through my area again! Right over Hampton Court Bridge and eventually down the high street of my local town too. Pathetic of some snobby local residents to be complaining about the closure of the roads on a Sunday. They'll have to get used to it because this is merely the inaugural event.

It's annoying that BBC1 is only broadcasting at 16:30 though because with all the nonsense chatting etc they do at the start of shows like this we'll miss nearly the whole race (unless it's on the red button and that started earlier), including the prettiest parts of Surrey. They'll miss the climbs - both Leith Hill and Box Hill. Guessing they might just about show it coming through my town and then back towards London but it's all very bizarre.

I see that Boris Becker is doing the amateur race tomorrow morning.

Today is the 8 or 2 mile route (whichever you prefer to do) for the public through central London and past the tourist hotspots - streets obviously closed.

It's on Eurosport from half two as well.

I suspected as much. I don't have that channel though so am stuck with BBC coverage.

I wonder how this works with the pro riders...........I'm assuming it's not a ranking race with UCI points at stake, so you'd think the teams would be reluctant to let their riders compete.............if for no other reason that they might crash and get injured

On the other hand they ride all those 'invitation' races in the week after the Tour and the teams don't appear to mind them riding in them just for the appearance money. Maybe this is the same...........

For those on Twitter the hashtag for this weekend is #pruRL2013. Some nice pics so far of the public cycling around London:

Off we go with the final time trial stage of the Tour of Poland and good news already - Wiggo took 51 seconds out of Cancellara to lead in the club house - surely won't be beaten. Now the rest of the field will be focussing on the overall.

There are two bits of coverage of the London cycle race tomorrow - 11:30 and 16:30 on BBC. According to Virgin cable, the coverage of the women's crit race will be in the 11:30 show.

So a great TT for Peter Weening wins him the Tour de Pologne, Inxausti 2nd, Riblon in yellow made a mess of it and came third.

Have just seen about it also being on at 11:30 now. Am not really interested in the women's race but I guess most will be. I just wish the BBC would start their coverage of the men's pro race earlier.

*Edit* - Just seen cray1975's post - Ah I hope that's true - will try the red button then.

Hi folks.

I have a newbie question so please don't do a Cav on me.

I see Froome, Porte and Kennaugh are riding in the Sky team in the USA Pro Challenge. Am I right to assume that none of them will be taking part in the Vuelta?
swingaleg
03-08-2013
Yeah, the Vuelta and the US race overlap a bit

The top teams will send a squad to each race

Sky haven't announced there Vuelta team yet but the riders who go to the US race won't be riding the Vuelta

Wiggo is down to ride the Eneco Tour (Belgium) from 12-18 August in the following squad - Bernhard Eisel, Mathew Hayman, David López, Gabriel Rasch, Ian Stannard, Chris Sutton, Ben Swift, Bradley Wiggins. That race is usually live on Eurosport

Froome and Porte in the US - squad - Ian Boswell, Joe Dombrowski, Josh Edmondson, Chris Froome, Peter Kennaugh, Danny Pate, Richie Porte, Kanstantsin Siutsou

I think that race might be on ITV4? or Eurosport

I assume that Uran will be Sky's team leader for the Vuelta as he sat out the Tour de France

Cheers Swing.

I'll be watching both but was hoping for a Sky Team I recognised in the Vuelta.

No matter, I'll be cheering them on anyway and it'll be good to learn a few new faces.

Well I couldn't find this on the red button this morning - or the BBC cycling site - but it's on BBC1 now.

Any chance Wiggins can somehow win TDF next year? Bookies are shortening on him.

It's possible but unlikely IMHO. He would have to regain his motivation and be prepared to do the very extensive training over the winter, be chosen as team leader instead of Chris Froome, and then of course survive all the trials of the Tour.

When I put the red button on this morning my Freeview guide was saying cycling and the pictures were showing the Football League Show

Argh - now the BBC commentary team has handed over to two new commentators and for some unknown reason the BBC is recapping the race in detail (when all this only happened one hour ago!) instead of letting us see the live coverage from the Surrey countryside. BBC usually mess up when they show road racing - ITV4 so much better.

Finally - they're showing live coverage of the Leith Hill multiple climbs.

Maybe it's because the feed was going to the other broadcasters like Eurosport who showed it from 2.30.........and there was a 10 minute recap of the race so far to bring the new viewers up to date
