I'm so looking forward to the two big road races at the weekend. Hopefully all the big names are fit and present.

Armitstead v Vos in the Women's, after Lizzie missing last year's due to illness.

Wiggins and Froome finally back in the same race.

All live on the BBC Saturday and Sunday.

Hope it lives up to expectations!

Read on Twitter that Martin's ITT time today would have placed him fourth in last Sunday's TTT. Given his performance on Stage 6 of the Vuelta, it seems quite credible.

Wiggins conceded 2.2 secs/km to Martin in the first sector. Dowsett was a long way down the board.

very interesting having the GPS comparisons.

i think they could easily put "ghosts" on the screen, like with video racing games

Pat McQuaid has failed to be re-elected as boss of the UCI. beaten in the vote by GB's Brian Cookson

McQuaid has been in charge during a dark period for the sport and is considered by many to have turned a blind eye or settled for the easy options

Cookson is promising a clean sweep, new broom etc..........

Some good news.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/24300072

A disgrace that the margin was so narrow, though, only 24-18. And I'm willing to bet that every single one of the 18 that voted for McQuaid was a tiny, corrupt federation that contributes nothing financially to world cycling, but is utterly dependent on the largesse that the UCI bestow on them.

Interesting character Cookson.............

If I understand his wiki entry correctly he's basically been working for Pendle Borough Council in Lancashire and has run British Cycling in his spare time for the last 15 years or so

His expertise in Local Government was in regeneration of run down areas and he first got involved with Cycling when it was on the verge of going bankrupt in the mid 90s...........since when he's overseen the rise of GB from almost nowhere to maybe the pre-eminent cycle sport nation in the world.............

The Russian/Katusha team's bikes were stolen last night. It may prevent the team taking part in further racing: http://instagram.com/p/ey1JJmAgyv/

Only the second half of both of this weekend's elite road races are live on TV. First half online.

That is disappointing. Looking at the following page it looked like the first part of the women's race was on the red button but is only on 'smart' connected TVs.

Hopefully the online coverage is worth watching and not some small screen low resolution bollocks.

Road World Championships, Florence: Women's Road Race

Because it is not on TV, the UCI Channel appear not to be geo-blocking the Mens Under-23 Road Race coverage on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdR93Ctlvzo

Edit: video started 10:15am

I just can't fathom out this red button thing these days

Just trying to find a schedule of what's on the red button channel is impossible..............

And there only appears to be one channel now with no choices..............I'm sure in the olden days you opened the red button and got a menu of different things you could select

The other day I was listened to 5Live and the presenter said 'you can also watch us live on the red button'...........I turned the TV on, opened up the red button and it was rugby highlights with no choice to view the 5Live football chat

It's a complete mystery to me now.............

So when it says 'online from 1.00pm'..............where is that online ?

I assume it won't be on the TV Red Button

You're not the only one. IMHO it's a total mess. Some bits on Channel 301 on Freeview, others on the BBC web site, yet others on the BBC iPlayer and now "Connected Red Button" whatever that is.

On VM, the women's road race is on channel 994 [BBC RB HD] from 12:30 according to the EPG. The direct route saves the palaver of the slow red button menus. It is transferring to main channels later.

I find online video links in the margin (or the end of the article) of the current BBC Sport cycling news.

I'm assuming 'red button via some connected TV' is really accessing the online stream via the TV connected to the internet and the red button is an easy way to access the stream, so not red button as we've come to know it that is same content on freeview/freesat/sky/virgin via specific channels such as 301/302.

Talking of 302 why can't they use that when there's a clash of sports? They did for the Olympics.

Looks like the cost cutting at the beeb is turning their services into a right mess. Then they'll say they're stopping it as no-one uses it. Yes, because the info on what is available when and how is abysmal.

The BBC shut down the multiple red button channels to divert the money to online content where they believe the future lies. Raising the licence fee to do both is not politically or economically acceptable.

UCI commentary say the race route has a new asphalt road surface that is near perfect grip and smoothness.

Maybe it does but for those of us outside the M25 on traditional phone lines and slow broadband speeds the future is a long, long way away.

And of course there can no question of cutting out superfluous management staff.

.........and there's another thing !

994 is the HD Red Button channel

For those of us without HD the 'normal telly' red button channel is 991

I've just tuned in and it's motor bike racing until the footie scores come on.............

Does that mean they're showing a different thing in HD than they are in 'normal'.............or are they in fact not showing the cycling on the HD channel ?
cmq2

HD is showing the same as 991 with practice due to end at 1:00pm according to the onscreen clock. EPG still saying cycling.

and..the EPG was wrong. A second unlisted motoGP programme has started showing the same pics as 991 and ES.

Wish I had a 'connected TV'. Having to make do with a connected PC.

Looks like GB only fielded 4 riders where others have the full team of 8. Shame the British track championship's have clashed with this as we may have had Trott, King, Barker in this race as they've been on the road for Wiggle Honda this season.
